GM's thread about nothing (31 Viewers)

So as I come out of the store the other day and a young couple are hanging out by my car. Turns out the guy swiped most of the side of my car with his bumper as he pulled in. As we're exchanging insurance info, he tells me it's his girlfriend's car, but wants to use his insurance. I tell him to call and check the policy to see if he's covered a primary. Of course he isn't. So he wants to do this out of pocket. I later find out that she has had a number of claims already. I'm guessing she was actually driving and he's taking the fall, but whatever, I don't care.

These seem like good young kids. He's either current or former military. I agree to work with them. I asked if he wanted me to get an estimate anywhere particular and he said no. So I pick a place close to work today and then email it to him. It's $1500. I tell him I'm willing to let him do a payment plan.

His response is "that seems steep, did you anywhere else?"

Should I be peeved at this? Look, I was willing to work with this kid, but I really do not have time going all around town getting estimates until we get a cheap one.
As somebody that has been through this a dozen times, and knows everything, call the cops immediately. You're screwed now unless the guy makes it right.
Are you supposed to call the cops for non-injury incident on a private property parking lot?

I feel like I'm a pretty good judge of character. I'm pretty sure this guy is going to pay.
Yes, a police report goes a long way should the guy decide to bail. You can still be cool about it and not turn it in to insurance though.

ETA

Of course you are screwed either way. You can get a judgement filed but that rarely works out.
Had to badger this guy a bit over the past week, as he was just stationed in NC. His girlfriend brought over the money order today

I'm completely unable to kill a spider now due to the Misunderstood Spider meme.
Step away from the Internet.
It's not really the internet so much as anthropomorphizing something gets me every time.
I'm gonna start sending you captioned pictures of my wang.
Start?
Well, now they'll be with cute captions rather than aggressive and/or menacing ones. Maybe draw a little smiley face on it or something.

Other boring updates:

Had to run into the dentist today because my tooth was really bothering me. He said my tooth is fine, just my gum recession is so bad that my teeth are pulling away from my gums. I guess it's good I go in for my first round of grafting next week. I CAN'T WAIT!

Slowly getting things back and running around here following the lightning strike. Next up is electrical inspection Thursday and I have to replace my garage door opener.

Wife is feeling a little better. Started seeing a new psychiatrist that specializes in chronic pain, and her headache doctor seems more committed to getting her right.

My son wanted to take some time off from organized sports, which was totally fine with us. But I really think he needs to be involved in something that can help with coordination. I am going to take him to a tae kwon do open house thing this weekend. Not sure how much, if at all, I should push it.

Misunderstood Homer Wang is money.

SLBob>quit trying to get adopted by krista. Just invent a Misunderstood Bob meme and move right in. Apparently she won't lift a finger to stop you.

Once she gives us sandwiches, it's all over.
:lmao: at both. I can't resist a sad little creature.

ETA: Not saying Homer's wang is little and/or sad.
but it is a creature?
Have you seen it?

We're trying to plan our social schedule out because we have really good friends we haven't seen in months. With our schedule, we have seven days per month we can realistically see people. We've got like 20 people we want to see once a month. I feel like an ### cutting the list down.

First world f'n problems

If you decide to do TKD, just be careful before you sign any contracts. My son takes TKD at a local Victory Martial Arts place, and they have some language in the contract that basically locks you into paying for several years. And it aint cheap. Our contract binds you to monthly payments until you reach a certain level of black belt which can take quite a long time to achieve. And if you want to get out of the contract, you have to pay some huge amount of money.
