well, this has taken a turn for the worse.

I may have to kill someone.
??
story of why my ex kicked my 9 year old out of the house is unfolding.

my daughter now says the ex's boyfriend hit her. my ex hasn't said that, but claims that per my daughter's doctor, she is not allowed to return to their house for any reason.

I don't really understand my daughter's doctor's role in all of this
This may have already been covered, but your daughter's doctor is a mandatory reporter by law of any signs of domestic violence or child abuse/neglect. This may mean that your daughter, upon examination, either had physical signs of abuse or else your daughter reported abuse to the doctor.

I would think you are absolutely entitled to this information as her parent and guardian and you should ask for it.

I'm sorry you're going through this. If my ex ever had a boyfriend that did this to my son, I'm sure I could kill him and in fact I'd have to really work hard not to.

Sorry, SLB

Got back from my daughter's doctor--this woman has been my daughter's pediatrician for 7 years, and she knows my daughter really well and was dragged into the divorce a bit, and knows that I have joint legal custody and that I'm heavily involved in my daughter's life. My ex's story is about 70% truth, 30% fabrication about what happened and why my daughter is now living with me. It could be that she was upset and misinterpreted what the doc said; more likely the boyfriend kicked my daughter out and my ex used the doc as an excuse. There was no report of abuse, and the doc was shocked to hear that my ex dropped my daughter off at my house and said she was living with me full time now. She says the claim that she recommended my daughter not go to their house at all is a complete lie, and gave me a copy of her written notes and recommendations.

I can't imagine being a teacher.

Every few days my son has to complete a timed math facts quiz. Basically, a worksheet with 100 addition & subtraction facts that they have to complete in 3 minutes. He hates these things with a passion. Kid is ridiculously smart but is probably the worst in his class at these. Last week on his quiz he just wrote the number 1 for the answer on all of them. His teacher asked him why and he said that the didn't think she really checked his work and he wanted to get it done.

My third-grade smartass.

Fortunately, his teacher rules and laughs along with his quirks but then sets him straight.
:lmao:

Serious question...I might be able to help. Does the quiz/worksheet look like this? (in terms of format)
Exactly. He knows his facts. In fact, he's in a gifted program and knows math concepts far beyond his grade. But repetitive speed tests are tough for him. Standardized tests and general unit tests are easy for him, but if you give him the same thing 100 times his brain just trails off. The funny thing is that they switch between pen and pencil every minute so you can see his progress. In his first minute he'll get like 30 done, then 12, then 4. Huge dropoff.

But his teacher is cool about it and says that she will just test him verbally later in the year to show his proficiency.
Just a suggestion...

When I was his age I was terrible at math quizzes like this. If you asked me "what is 4 times 3?" I could tell you "12" right away. But on those weekly page-full-of-problems things...I sucked. While the other kids were racing to see who could finish first I was lucky to get half way.

One day, and I have no idea why, I decided to answer the problems by going down the columns instead of across the rows. We were taught to do the problems like we were reading a book...go left to right.

The day I started doing the problems "up and down" instead of "left and right" I couldn't believe how much faster I went. The teacher was confused at first but saw how many more problems I could do in the time allotted and let me do the quizzes that way from then on. Within a couple of weeks I was finishing them with time to spare.

No idea how all of this works but I guess I just tricked my brain or something. Give it a shot.
I'll tell him to give it a try. Honestly, I don't lose any sleep over it because who friggin cares how fast he can recite his facts. But I know he gets frustrated by it. Though not being good at something for once might not be so bad for the kid.
ADD and ADHD are often co-morbid with giftedness. A lot of other things are too.

I was a "gifted" student, but was thrown out of the GATE program in 4th grade for disruptive behavior. I was dropped from Honors English as a freshman because I got a C in English, which really came down to the fact that I found sentence diagramming to be a monumental waste of time and I refused to learn how to do it. By my senior year I'd tested back in to AP English. Basically, if I wasn't being challenged mentally, I couldn't maintain my focus on something. Unfortunately that's still a problem for me.

Anyway, the school system, even with gifted/honors programs, is designed to reach "most students" but when you're gifted you're not most students. It's repetitive and boring. Yes, you have to learn the discipline that the life and the world require to get boring stuff done, but you also have to realize that certain "easy" things for most students are just going to be excruciatingly difficult for someone who has ADD, no matter how bright they are and maybe ironically because they're so bright.

It sounds like you might have a teacher who understands this though, which is a huge advantage.

This sounds to me like the ex is covering for the boyfriend then. There's something else going on here unless you believe that your ex is capable of simply deciding that she no longer wants her daughter in her life, or at least living with her part time, which needless to say would be highly unusual for a mom.

You're spot on. My son's ADHD is pretty disruptive, but we started him on medication late last school year and he is doing immensely better.

The great thing about the program he is in is that there are a lot of kids with quirks in his class; ADHD, anxiety, OCD, etc. So the teachers in general have a more forgiving perspective on kids' individual issues or difficulties.

Plus, his teacher joined the program because her kid was just like my son, very gifted but with ADHD, and had a miserable experience in his first years of school. Joining this program turned him around so she wanted to become a part of it. She gets our son more than anyone else we have encountered. Shoot, she knows how to get him on track better than we do. Been a great learning experience.

she's been texting all day. now that her story fell apart she's freaking out. I told her if my daughter tells a doc or counselor that he hit her, he's going to get a visit from the police. now she's claiming I'm making it up and telling my daughter to lie.

I'd add one more thing, -fish-, and that is that you now have a daughter who's been rejected in one way or another by her mother. That's HUGELY damaging to her and is it's own issue, and frankly the most important issue.

I would get her access to counseling even if you don't see any particular signs of a problem at this point. It's clear there's at a minimum a large amount of dysfunction in that other household so definitely show her that you're there for her no matter what and get her (and you) resources to help her cope.

Until you get to the bottom of this, don't let your daughter communicate with your ex in any way, in order to prevent your ex from threatening or guilting your daughter out of telling you the truth.

1. Congrats K4.

@. Sorry SLB. If Cal peed on the floor enough to cause another kid to make fun of him because of it, wouldn't someone at the school know? Like the janitor had to be called to clean up a massive puddle in the middle of the bathroom because kids were slipping in it. Tell him just to pee on the kid next time. No cameras in the bathroom.

D. Extremely sorry Fish. Not sure what I would do, but I do know I would claim on a message board that I would beat the living #### out of the BF, and then call up Cal and have him pee on the BF. Maybe have Cal swing by your Ex's with his baseball bat, two birds with one stone.

IV. Tanner, how long did it take you to chisel your math answers into the slate you were given?

As I have mentioned a couple of times this season, I am in an ATS CFB Pick 'em league. Going into this past weekend, I was in a 4th place (out of 142), but I got jinxed by my ex-boyfriend who is also in the pool and this past weekend I pooped the bed. I'm now in 10th place overall with a record of 134-106. The pool pays out the top 11 finishers. If I can manage to go over .500 for the next three weeks, I can easily finish in the money. But after my 7-13 performance last weekend, I've got the yips.

So, what I'm asking is this: if you are so inclined, take a look at my games for this coming weekend. I am not asking anyone to pick the games for me. IF, however, you feel strongly about a game or two in particular, please let me know - there is a lot I don't know about conferences other than ACC and SEC, so I'm picking blind (with Internet research) a lot of the time.

I love you.

I was at his school to pick him up for his doctor appointment when the kid accused him of peeing on the floor. He would never do that, come on he's my son, plenty of reach rol, and I was there to hear him telling the school admin about it. Cal's really anal about stuff. If he did piss on the floor, he would clean it up.

lol at peeing on the kid. Cal needs to keep his nose clean.

Incidentally, this ex and this pick 'em league are the very reason I am at FBGs. I was in this same pool in 2007 and I came to these messageboards to see if I could find any information on College Football that would give me an edge because the ex and I had a side bet that I really didn't want to lose. I posted here, someone put me in touch with azcards, then FDAS started PMing me, and the rest is history. :excited:

Adjustable too, so it can fit any size victim. :homer:
:lmao: Just noticed that.
"It used to be that I had to carry multiple rapery rods around in my rape kit so that I could be prepared for any victim that came along... [images of inept fumbling of rapery rods and frustrated expressions] ...but now, with my new adjustable Ronco rapery rod, I only have to carry one! [smiling, holding up the compact rapery rod] I'm ready for any predatorial situtation that might arise! And no more hassle!"

I would wait until the very last minute, and see where the money comes in. Especially on Saturday. I use VegasInsider, which tracks line movements for the Vegas books (they're very strongly correlated) and a lot of the big offshore sites.

What lines do you guys use for scoring? Closing lines? Or the lines as of Friday or something?
The games get posted on Tuesday or Wednesday and don't change, even if Vegas ones do. Sometimes that can be very nice.
I would wait until the very last minute, and see where the money comes in. Especially on Saturday. I use VegasInsider, which tracks line movements for the Vegas books (they're very strongly correlated) and a lot of the big offshore sites.

That's part of what I've been trying to do, except through ESPN PickCenter. I always look at line movement to see if there is any kind of evidence of major money coming in. But I've been looking at the week as a whole, not just last minute Saturday. Thanks.

I get so confused sometimes, with the identities of Fish, T-Bell/redmond, and Leroy Jenkins. For some reason, I thought one of these was duplicates. Aren't every single one of you semi-conservative (redmond) lawyers in the west/midwest (if it's not touching the atlantic or the pacific, it's really all the same to me) who are divorced/separated with kids?

At the very least, I thought fish and LJ were the same, or at least bunched them together (at least I know that t-bell is the token conservative here). I gotta work on my notebook.

redman, not Redmond (Leghorn - does he even post here anymore?).

Yup, I'm a divorced SoCal lawyer with a kid. You can't throw a stick around here..., etc.

Pretty accurate, except for LJ being newly in his first marriage, childless, liberal, and living in the East. ;)

My wife and I have argued enough in the last three days that she is leaving with the kid for thanksgiving right now. Headed to her parents. I am invited to join them next week.

Honestly, this kind of thing should upset me but we have been fighting so much I'm kind of relieved. It will be good for her to have a couple days without me and me without her. Will miss the kid a ton though.

And T Bell is redman, not Redmond.

Oof, that blows, but the time and space apart may be just what you two need.

Congrats Krista

This sounds to me like the ex is covering for the boyfriend then. There's something else going on here unless you believe that your ex is capable of simply deciding that she no longer wants her daughter in her life, or at least living with her part time, which needless to say would be highly unusual for a mom.

It's clear there's at a minimum a large amount of dysfunction in that other household so definitely show her that you're there for her no matter what and get her (and you) resources to help her cope.
she's been texting all day. now that her story fell apart she's freaking out. I told her if my daughter tells a doc or counselor that he hit her, he's going to get a visit from the police. now she's claiming I'm making it up and telling my daughter to lie.
Until you get to the bottom of this, don't let your daughter communicate with your ex in any way, in order to prevent your ex from threatening or guilting your daughter out of telling you the truth.
:goodposting: to both. Good luck with the whole situation.

My ex has my son and my gf and I are currently "taking a break". All my family's out of state and I can't afford to travel to see them.

I think I'm going to roast a Cornish game hen and some fixings, make sweet, sweet love to a bottle of Bourbon, rap with all you guys, play World of Tanks incessantly, jerk off, and then fall asleep crying into my pillow. Happy Thanksgiving!

BTW, it's entirely in keeping with the spirit of Thanksgiving if I jerk off to thoughts of Pocahontas, right?
