Did gift exchange with Chicago Girl last night because I have my daughter tonight and then we are going to Maine.

We have only been dating for 3-4 months and I wasn't even sure if we were doing gifts until we talked it on Saturday, so I had played it somewhat safe with the gifts I got for her just in case she didn't have anything for me.

Of course, she's awesome so she got me some great stuff. A couple highlights: we both got each other beer (thanks for the assist on that one Thorn, it was a big hit) and she also got me some new pajama pants to offset the ones she has commandeered when she stays over.

Frosty > need you to weigh in here. She went to IU and got me IU pajama pants. Acceptable or do I have to tell her I can't wear them because I didn't go to IU?

Gifts are always acceptable. Are they candy striped?

I'll take 'em if you don't want them. Big fan of wearing any college clothing, no matter if I attended the school or not. See Oregon, University of.

Heading out in a bit towards Annapolis. The facility my father is in is having their Christmas dinner today, so my mom, myself, and my brother are going. I've been to other functions this place has thrown and expect it to be pretty decent - as much as can be expected, anyway. I used to dread going there, because it's just so damned sad. But I don't anymore - it's still sad, but it can be funny as hell too. There's like an odd black market going on, though no one knows what they're doing. Most of the patients that can get around steal from each other, just to have their loot re-stolen. Last time I was there, my father was wearing a pink baseball hat that said "World's Greatest Mom!" on it It didn't even come close to fitting him - he looked like some Dali-inspired version of a gay rapper.

I've got a new hat for him today and a card I'll put a dollar in. He grew up dirt poor - they were sharecroppers, basically, with no running water in their house and literally had dirt floors in part of the house; clothes patched and patched until they fell apart. So, in his dementia, money is still a thing to him. He has no idea what it means, just that it means something. I was gonna give him my bill I brought back from Nicaragua, but I can't find the damned thing. So, a George it is.

I'm sure, next time I go, Mr Garcia in 28L will be trying to buy the pretty young nurse with it.

I dreamed that someone put a bomb in our house and I had 2 minutes and 15 seconds to get both my daughter and my cat named Penny (side note, I don't have a cat named Penny) out.

Even though in the dream, it was our house, when I woke I recognized it as my parents' house. My car was parked on the other side of their neighbor's house, so I had to sprint a good ways with my daughter to get her in the car. I put her in her car seat but didn't strap her in because of the time shortage. But then, instead of driving away as fast as we could, I went back for the cat.

I woke up before anything happened but I'm pretty sure I didn't get the cat and didn't get my kid out of the blast zone. Marry Christmas to me.

P and S: it was my parents' house because we might actually be doing the death auction this year and Romo asked me yesterday if we can just pick their house as our first pick, and the cat was named "Penny" because I fall asleep to reruns of Big Bang Theory every night. Look at me, I'm bostonfred!

Went to Trader Joe's and ALMOST knocked over a display of wine but didn't. YES.

Went to Target and parked in a side-lot near a pet store. Only Target has these gay (sorry, WD) boundaries around their store so you can't take their dumb carts...home? Use them like a homeless person? I dunno.

Of course I don't realize this, and I'm coming out of the store with my kid, some random stuff, including GATORADE FOR A DYING MAN (husband of the lady that takes care of our son. No TPW's please, SLB always gets TPW's and he's living real-life Final Destination.), and I forget about the boundary. Gatorade, kid in carseat, car 200 feet away. I ended up dragging that dumb fucking cart past their stupid electronic boundary, backwards, successfully. Fuck you, Target.

I took the boys to the butcher shop tonight. I always like going with my Dad so I make them go with me.

The butcher is cutting my prime rib steaks and Cal is checking out the inventory. Everything was full but the t-bones which was empty. "Looks like there was a lot of demand for the t-bones" he says to the butcher, nodding knowingly. This butcher is an older Italian guy that looks like he's lived a tough life. Of course - horse shoe up my ### that I have - it was right before an exit and I was able to limp my way to a truck stop. Air bags came out, which was fun with a cigaratte in my mouth (hint: they don't taste good lit). Cop showed up - I think he was more pissed that the deer got away than that he was on call on the 24th He had me do a field sobriety test, but wasn't even paying attention - I passed. I recently joined AAA and they had someone there to tow my truck in about 20 friggin minutes. EMTs arrived at some point & wanted to take me to the hospital, but I declined - no injuries (other than the partially ingested cig and the air bags punching my lungs through the BACK OF MY ####### CHEST). The AAA guy said at the time I should have my truck back by Thursday (!) - hood & grill ####ed up and whoever he worked for had/located both. Thank God no one was hurt, other than that poor deer. Cop drove me home.

I doubt anyone in the world is luckier than I am. Mechanic/Body shop guy said they had a rear-ended vehicle same make, model, and color as mine. Nothing bent on my truck, so just replacing the hood and grill. I said "Not that I'm complaining, but why the quick turnaround?". He said "I want to get this ####### Christmas #### done and go hunting the rest of the week".

Ballard is good. You should also look in West Seattle from Alki to just south of Lincoln Park west of 35th as your high priorities in the city.

Greenlake, Queen Anne and Magnolia are likely your next choices.

Capitol Hill if you guys want to go urban/hip.

I'm assuming you guys want to stay in the city so I'm not suggesting any non-Seattle proper neighborhoods.

We are taking a spontaneous trip to Seattle, leaving tomorrow.

Thanks for the info. Those were all areas I'd looked at but wasn't sure about...our friends haven't been there long enough to be too helpful. I especially wondered about West Seattle and Greenlake.

I'll message ninja and Redmond and see if they're around and up for a get-together.
