GM's thread about nothing (70 Viewers)

Just picked up 11/22/63 per the reccomendation of hjs. Way more words and fewer pictures than I was expecting.
Received this book as a gift a couple years ago when it first came out. It sat on my bookshelf since, but due to the high praise from folks in here I recently moved it to the nightstand. I expect to have it completed within another couple years or so.

So I negotiated more salary to cover 50% of the healthcare costs, another week of vacation, and 2 weeks paid paternity leave with promise of no travel 4-6 weeks before due date. I pretty much need to take this, right?

Don't know, but congrats!!

krista, how's T&C?
Hey, I replied earlier but am not sure if you saw it. Other people might be in a better position to advise on it--I think TRE has been here several times, for instance. I'm not necessarily the best in that I don't really like beach vacations. (I know the obvious question that comes next.) Let me know what kind of vacation you're looking for and I can give you my thoughts. It's a bit built up and full of Americans here for my taste.

All right, I'm going to sit on the deck and start to watch Breaking Bad. Season 1, episode 1. Wish me luck.
I envy you getting to watch all of this for the first time. Just know that Cranston is amazing, and as the series progresses, all the other actors step up to approach his level. So do not give up early.

Should have gone with the Drifter/Floppo Anguilla suggestion

Very loss for your loss, GM.
Thanks guys. Judson has been battling against brain cancer for a long time, so his passing wasn't unexpected. But it still hurt a great deal more than I thought it would. I'm happy I got to see him last year around this time when he was still able to get around and communicate. Towards the end, he lost those basic dignities. I'll be in Dallas Friday through Monday. Will be good to see everybody and hug his widow....damn, she's too young to wear that moniker. :(

RIP Judson. 41. Too too young to go. I hate you, cancer.

yea i missed it krista.

i'm thinking of going here: http://www.beaches.com/main/tc/tc-home.cfm total family vaca with the extended family

where is your hotel? this one is towards the west side of islands, on the long isthmus
We are at Seven Stars. I'm not really sure where we are, but it seems central.

So weird as my first coincidence today was the only work I had to do so far today was a call with a guy whose work I'm covering next week while he's on his vacation. I asked him where he was going: "Turks and Caicos". Second coincidence was that he is going to be connecting through Atlanta to get here Friday while I'll be taking the flight back up to Atlanta the same day. Third now is that he is going to be staying at the hotel you're looking at. I'll ask him about it when he returns in a couple of weeks. He is taking his wife and two kids so his experience should be relevant to you.

I'm sure I would like it better. For this we needed something easy to get back and forth to quickly, as I am officially not off work.

Watched one episode; liked it. I thought I'd messed something up (I was using my installed Netflix) because of the way it starts--actually walked into the bedroom to ask Mr. krista if the show starts with a guy in his underwear and a gas mask driving an RV (new idea for how we'll transport to Seattle).

I knew nothing of this show, not even the central premise.

Now I have to do some work for only the second time today, so probably no more episodes until tomorrow. :(

TPW GB. #### cancer!

Trip concluded. Gambling can really suck a big fat **** sometimes. :kicksrock:
Really the only sensible thing to do here is to move to Portland. Time to make your assets sweat, bro.
I think about this often. Hopefully someday.

Uni, would love to hear the gambling story.
Nothing very interesting. Just went up by myself to a big poker circuit series. I took four stabs at a huge multi-day event, and played in about half a dozen other fairly large tournaments. Some really poor competition given the stakes, but sometimes the cards just don't fall the right way. Very frustrating 4 days.

I try to avoid any house games when doing the whole poker thing, but Saturday night after sitting at the casino bar from 8PM until 2AM I couldn't resist stopping by the blackjack table with the smoking hot young blonde girl dealing. I was completely hammered and charming, and tipping well so I'm pretty sure she fell in love with me. Before I knew it, it was 5AM and pretty much the rest of my money was gone. So that sucked pretty bad.

I did get two free XL t-shirts though. Yippee.
HPT?

No, not sure if that one rolls through my area. WSOP Circuit stops in Choctaw/Oklahoma for most of January.

Saw on the blog yesterday that some rich old CEO guy won one of the bigger tournaments I dumped a bunch of money on. 122k is probably nothing to him. *******. :kicksrock:

If it is, up to 80% of men have it, and it's no big deal.

Sorry GM. T's and P's.

BTW, does anybody else feel like the FFA has gone the #### back to junior high for the last few days?

TPW, GM.

200 pages into this book and I'm digging it.

As a travel aside, I have never used the bathroom on an airplane. It was just a coincidence for a few years but now its kinda my thing. This trip from SFO to denver to Austin without deplaning is going to threaten the streak.

I got tickets in a suite at the 50-yard line with pre-game sidelines passes for the NFC championship between the Bears and Saints a few years ago. Same year, also got tickets to the Bears-Colts Super Bowl from a different vendor. Compliance approved both. :bowtie:
A few????

;)

Best sporting event I've ever attended. I can't imagine any football game, SB included, comparing to a Conf Championship in the stadium of the team you're a fan of.
This one was better

No offense, but that Bears team has got to be the worst team to ever reach the Super Bowl.
85 Patriots down?
'98 Falcons say 'hello'.
Weren't they like 15-1 in the regular season?
I guess I'm still bitter that they beat the Vikings that year, which was one of the best offensive teams I've ever seen (right before the Rams took flight). Falcons were good...good run game, decent QB. But they bored me and were very lackluster in the Super Bowl.
Can we not talk about this?
Oh we're going to talk about it. I remember LMAO when Anderson missed that kick.
His only miss that whole season. :lmao:
So awesome.

Was at that one too. Another great game. Never walked out of a sporting event more upset that I was that day, but that doesn't keep it from being solidly in my top 5.

My friend Elizabeth is in this group, and get this: she's a woman, AND she goes to Europe (from Chicago) a couple of times a year. Amazing.
