GM's thread about nothing (19 Viewers)

It's been years since I sat in the dark listening to rock music uninterrupted.

Youth is wasted on the young. And PJ. But mostly the young.

I'm pretty sure I've never done this.

How much attention do I have to pay to what's going on with The Sopranos? Because I'm out if it demands my undivided attention like BB, True Detective, Mad Men, etc.

Really? A stiff drink and the Velvet Underground (for example) by yourself in the dark is awesome.

Btw- pulp fiction came out 20 years ago. Fuxking time...

The first time I saw Pulp Fiction was in Dobie Center. A buddy of ours was a movie theater manager. He ran the movie in the middle of the night and shot it with a video camera. He plugged the camera into our TV and that's the version I watched. You could see the first couple rows of seats at the bottom of the screen. Movie piracy has come a long way in 20 years.

Why do you hate Morris Day?

I'm cooking my man a nice steak dinner tonight, and then trying my hand for the first time at eggs benedict (his recent favorite dish) in the morning. Minimal drinking, probably even less kinky sexy stuff.
Have you ever made hollandaise before?
Nope. Been researching/watching videos today though. Tips?
Take your time and double boil. It's the difference between a hollandaise and a #####, broken butter sauce.

The coffee shop at the Stardust used to serve eggs Rothschild, with filet mignon and bearnaise sauce. Available 24 hours for $9.95. I miss that place.

Hoping to get the kids to bed early, have a roll with the wife and then drink some whiskey and start The Sopranos.
A, B and C down. Time to fire up the Chromecast.
Wife and I had the blue hair special at a local Mexican joint. It felt weird being out for Valentines dinner at 5:15. But with a 17 month in tow we didn't want to deal with the crowds and kockblock any young couples. Charles is always an angel in restaurants. But tonight it was a good idea for us to go early and split. Total meltdown. Most people were sympathetic but one table behind us did the "I"M TALKING REALLY LOUD TO PASSIVE(LY) AGGRESSIVE(LY) (not sure which one gets the "ly") LET YOU KNOW YOUR KID AND HIS PARENTS ARE a ####" move.

At any rate I think Bentley and I were on the same schedule. Dinner, kid to bed and sexy time done by 8:45.

Condolences on your losses, GBSLB.

Damn, shuke. Glad you guys are oktoberfest, though - that sheet metal can be replaced.

So, in my half-assed attempt to cut the cable/sat cord I've been accumulating devices (Roku, Chromecast, etc...). I've had to jury-rig them so far as the components I have don't mix-and-match well. Someone in the "cut the cord" thread here directed me to an A/V receiver that should meet my needs (mainly, enough HDMI ports) and I got it the other day. Trying to reroute everything is always a challenge for me in the best of circumstances. I plan on taking on this monumental task tomorrow (later today, I guess). However, I have already noticed an issue - the subwoofer I have just has regular speaker wire hard-connected with the two stripped ends to feed into the receiver. This new receiver uses the male/female A/V cable for the subwoofer (rest of the speakers connect with stripped wire-into-clips).

I suppose there's an adapter I can get, or do I need a new subwoofer with the matching connection?

How's your setup working other than the audio switching? I bought a gbox midnight MX2 and have been loving it.

Might want to post this in the "cut the cable" thread...you're dealing with the likes of GM and company in here.

The Roku, BluRay, and Chromecast (though I've only used that a time or two) are working fine. My problem has been that I've had to disconnect one thing to use another and that my BluRay/HT receiver has zero HDMI inputs. So, I got this new A/V receiver that has 4. I think this will do the trick. The biggest leap will be cancelling DTV. Other than the local news and sports, I watch very little "live" TV but those are two biggies. I'm way far away from a metro center, so OTA reception is less than good - I'm currently stuck on trying to get the right antenna(e); being 80 miles from DC and behind two mountain ridges may be a problem I can't overcome for that at this point.

Yeah, I know. I felt kind of bad for overwhelming that thread with questions a couple of weeks ago. Just pre-venting here for what I know will be a disaster of epic proportions on Saturday.
