GM's thread about nothing (11 Viewers)

Bachelor weekend is off to a good start. I've been in bed all day and have almost finished House of Cards. Just cracked my second beer. Have to go pay a bill before 5, grab some more beer, and make a decision about eating. Can't decide whether to buy a big steak to cook later or just go to Twin Peaks.
Too bad you didn't decide on Twin Peaks yesterday. It was Lingerie day yesterday.
####.

Condolences on your losses, GBSLB.

Damn, shuke. Glad you guys are oktoberfest, though - that sheet metal can be replaced.

So, in my half-assed attempt to cut the cable/sat cord I've been accumulating devices (Roku, Chromecast, etc...). I've had to jury-rig them so far as the components I have don't mix-and-match well. Someone in the "cut the cord" thread here directed me to an A/V receiver that should meet my needs (mainly, enough HDMI ports) and I got it the other day. Trying to reroute everything is always a challenge for me in the best of circumstances. I plan on taking on this monumental task tomorrow (later today, I guess). However, I have already noticed an issue - the subwoofer I have just has regular speaker wire hard-connected with the two stripped ends to feed into the receiver. This new receiver uses the male/female A/V cable for the subwoofer (rest of the speakers connect with stripped wire-into-clips).

I suppose there's an adapter I can get, or do I need a new subwoofer with the matching connection?
Might want to post this in the "cut the cable" thread...you're dealing with the likes of GM and company in here.
I've got this... what model sub do you have? Even if it has the posts for bare wire, typically they also have a single RCA jack. If so, that's what you would want to plug into the receiver. The subwoofer signal is mono, so there is only the one line running to it
Does this mean anything?Samsung PS-DW0-1
I would try something like this
Oh, sweet baby jeebus - that's what I need. Thank you!
N/M Guster got it
Not to step on anyone here but it appears that Uruk's sub is not powered. This will prove to be a problem with the cable Guster linked as the receiver sends a line level (ie non amplified signal) to the sub and requires the sub to be powered. What receiver do you have Uruk?Uruk, do you plug your sub into a wall outlet as well?

ETA To add details.
Yeah, looks like you're right. :kicksrock:
I am a bit of an audiophille. Home theater is directly in my wheelhouse :hiPickles: But once Uruk answers those two questions help might be available, but it may not work since it he's trying to replace an all in one system. Those things typically have a lot of proprietary #### on them that make switching out components a pain in the ###.

Yeah I didn't find out until too late myself. And with the wife being sick it would have been a welcome distraction. :kicksrock:

The one here has a bartender that needs to be a Victoria secret model or do porn. Feel it's my duty to pass a few shillings her way this evening.

It's not powered (according to what I can see on crutchfield)

GB just called because he hasn't heard from me in awhile. I've shut everything off, not just you fine people. I'm sorry about that. No need to worry.

He offered to bring beer over and drink with me. Looks like my day is full.

Not that commie Miller Lite #### though I hope.
You're skating on thin ice, pal.
It's all good comrade.
Glad to have you back Bob, sorry about all the latest bull#### you have to deal with.

So now we need to know what receiver he has. If it has A/B speakers, he may be able to run both sets at once to get the sub output, but outside of that he's kind of screwed since it's unlikely it has high pass outputs on it. He may be able to run optical out of the new receiver and into the Samsung and continue to use the speakers with the sub. Otherwise he may have to get new speakers as well. I f'ing hate these home theater in the boxes like this, upgrading is damn near impossible.

Just got the posted more nested quotes BS. Neat Board.

Well ####. What is the brand and model of your receiver? To use the sub you may have to use an optical cable from your new receiver to the the old Samsung.

So I successfully resisted joining the music draft started by eephus. Asking to join, anyway; no idea if it was only for leet posters. But it looks like it's a lot of fun from the thread. What is my proper emotional reaction, if any.

Just throwing this out there...end of March I will be solo as my wife and kids are heading to FL. So any Chicago peeps up for a cornhole? Would love to meet some of the Jimtanners

I always find that "righteous indignation" hits most of the right notes.

At my own conduct, tho? Ah, you're probably right. I, uh, didn't have time for that stinkin' draft anyway!!!

Drinking beer, watching the teevee and playing video games. Thoughts on optimizing my experience?
Adding surround sound and self pleasure are the only things I can think of. Maybe move the beer into a cooler next to your chair so that you don't have to get up to get more beer.

I finished house of cards season 2 while drinking beer and playing chess against shuke and UNi. Pretty good day so far. About to get more beer and find another series to watch (although I am thinking of watching house of cards season 1 again).

Anything else on Netflix I should be watching?

My daughter just about walked in on the sexy time with the wife. Closest time ever. She was at the neighbors and had just left. Ran back to get her bathing suit #rough winter

Good times

Sherlock is good if you haven't seen it. First 2 seasons are on Neftlix.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've heard good things.

Lost Girl, since you missed Lingerie Night. Though it's slightly poorer production value, I'd imagine.

Anyone here ever go from a completely sedentary lifestyle to sort of working out regularly? Is it supposed to make the gates of hell open out of my butt? Because it has. I need to know if that's okay.
