GM's thread about nothing (27 Viewers)

K4 - per Facebook chat. While Brookyn's and Ray's are institutions both are several rungs down the ladder in terms of quality. For Steakhouses, Daniel's Broiler, El Gaucho and the Metropolitan are all better food than Brooklyn's and while I love the upstairs at Ray's (and the deck in the summer), the seafood is pretty meh. At a similar price point Duke's is better and any number of higher end places have better food.

The El Paseo comment is on the money. Best sandwich in the city. Could compete for one of the best in the country.

 
was really underwhelmed with Paseo. still good, but not omg wtf amazing like I was probably expecting.

I'll take Salumi over them for sure, but those lines are nutso.

The ability to like posts is great and all, but one of my favorite features on some other boards is the ability to downvote posts. When a post gets a certain number of down votes it gets hidden from everyone's view. If people want to view it, they can still click on it like you can click on a post of someone you have blocked here. That would do a lot to clean up the trolls on this board

My friend that is a part owner of Quinn's Pub is taking me to its more upscale sister restaurant Restaurant Zoe tomorrow night. Will let you know.

Well, A) One has to be a complete and utter idiot.

2) One has to have blindly ignored the fact that grease build up in the grill might in fact be flammable.

R: One need to completely cover the grill mass with chicken and pork so that there's very little open space.

π) One should probably turn all four burners up higher than they need to be.

Ω) One also will need to neglect the fact that the grill is grilling on high heat and tend to his fantasy baseball drafts.

β: Did I mention the idiot part?

Well, the first thing I did was shut off the propane tank. Figured that was paramount.

Then I tried to salvage as much meat as humanly possible by putting it on the upper rack. I actually saved quite a bit with my heroic meat moving mechanics.

I blew really hard like I was trying out for Queer Eye, which helped quell the flaming.

Then I just shut the lid and let the fire continue to smolder, cooking my meat a little longer. Even gave it a smokey flavor, I'll be it just a touch plasticy.

Yes, I had heard Ray's wasn't much (actually maybe from you in another thread or something). We've actually been to the Duke's at Alki a couple of times and had good food. Thanks for the other recommendations. :thumbup:

Adding Salumi to the list.

We had Pagliacci pizza delivered last night because it was raining and we were exhausted, and it was surprisingly good considering it's a (local) chain. We also had some great pizza at Ballard Pizza Company on Saturday night before going to a show at Sunset Tavern, though oddly I never got the salad I ordered because they were having trouble finding someone to prep the celery. Not kidding--they asked if I just wanted it without the celery. I loved Sunset Tavern (friends of Mr. krista were playing).

We're having our "welcome to Seattle" celebration dinner with our very close friends here on Sunday at The Walrus and the Carpenter. We've been there before but really wanted to go back. Wow, so good. We also really loved The Whale Wins when we came here in January.

So many places to try...

Loved the vibe at Quinn's when we went but didn't have a meal and really need to go back and try it.

The recommendations were more just in the steakhouse or casual seafood vein. Seastar is the best upscale seafood I've had in town. Palisade at the Elliot Bay marina was surprisingly good as well if a little stuffy.

I've had Restaurant Zoe. It's good. Didn't blow me away. It is next to Oola distillery which is a plus. For American Nouveau cuisine I prefer Oddfellows on Capital Hill. I've been underwhelmed by Eat Like a Wolf in Queen Anne in that same category.

For Pizza, Serious Pie is a must and you usually can't go wrong with any of Tom Douglas' places.

Cactus and Barrio for upscale/nouveau Mexican . La Carta De Oaxaca in Ballard is very good as well in a more casual/family style setting.

For burgers Lunchbox Laboratory is hands down the best. Ignore those that say Blue Moon burgers is good.

For breakfast (or for dinner), Skillet diner in Capital Hill next to Restaurant Zoe is also a must do.

also, best hand made pasta ever at Il Corvo. only open during lunch and the lines are long like Salumi's but it's phenomenal.

What don't they like about it? Could be the new staff. I've eaten there (SLU, not Gig harbor) and taken people there at least 10 times and everybody raves.

From Yelp it looks like mostly service. SLU also suffers from slow service sometimes which is my biggest complaint about them but it sounds like it's over the top bad in Gig Harbor.

 
We had Serious Pie on an earlier trip--definitely great. We also had Cactus in January and I thought it was very good but Mr. krista wasn't as impressed. Red Mill Burgers is close to us and everyone raves, so that's high on the list. Geez, this chat reminds me that I haven't had lunch!

Drifter, appreciate the casual seafood recs in particular as that's probably my favorite thing. Another one I've liked is Ballard Annex, which we've visited twice and loved it both times, but our friend had a so-so experience so maybe we have been lucky. Of course, she's also the one who took me to The Brooklyn so what does she know.

By the way, if you're into Ethiopian (one of my favorites), Kezira Eritrean & Ethiopian in Columbia City blew me away. We had Hana's Kitchen on Tuesday, on the other hand, and were extremely underwhelmed.

 
Seattle peeps: Future ex-Mrs Fish and I will be out and drinking heavily tomorrow night, most likely in the Queen Anne area.

I'll buy a round for anyone that meets us, except 'Ninja. I'm afraid for his safety.
