GM's thread about nothing (24 Viewers)

Ok... Might as well give something back to this thread for once instead of just posting dreck.

as part of my birthday celebration with friends, I'm having friends over and cooking for them before we go out and paint the town red

In that spirit, if anyone wants to PM your number (or text if you already have mine), I'll send your choice of a pic of FWB's boobs or crazy in sexy panties
 I'm getting together with 6-7 of my oldest GB's tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to it. Pretty sure they last time we all got together was as the golf trip last August.

My teeth are awesome! Also, the dentist is a pretty dreamy guy and he personally built the wooden chairs in the waiting room. Think I'm going to schedule a cleaning every 3 months.

I had great work news today. We've been working for the last seven months to change up our advertising campaign. Our current one still does great in the research and everyone loves it, but we've run it for almost six years, so it's time to change it up before it goes stale. I can't even begin to count the hours we've spent on the development process. I saw a video preview of the actual creative yesterday and shared it with my boss and our CEO today. Our people knocked it out of the park. So relieved. Now all we have left to do is rework the whole company website to include responsive design and ditch our craptastic Intranet for an internal Wordpress blog.
Congrats on the teef and work GB!

My entry: convinced my boss to let me hire some sales people. Interviews start tomorrow.

Is the implication that someone in this thread is a guest blogger?
Sounds like exactly what you do. Make up #### or slap together #### from other sources and post as a blog.

Make them dollars while you can.
I think you may have a distorted view of what my blogging consists of. There are lots of people farming content or trolling for links or page views. I am not one of them.

I write for three blogs. Each post is between 700-1400 words of original, researched, and edited content. For context, that will be about 1400 pages of single-spaced-12pt-Arial this year and every word is my own. I don't make anything up or slap anything together. As hard as it is to believe, I take a lot of pride in the posts being useful and informative and not just word spam.

Really want a nice chef knife and maybe one of those Japanese giant chef knives but can't decide what a regular mope like me should get. The shun has a fancy design and seems goodish, so maybe I should just do that. I read the OH and Cos posts I could find and I'm still teh waffling.
Don't know what he posted before but he really loves his Shun/Kramer knife.
Ceramic knives... gimmicky?
From OH: "I don't like them. They don't hold an edge and you can't sharpen them like a real knife. They're cheap for a reason."
This is pretty much what I thought. I loved mine for about a week and then it was dead. Sharp as #### early on though.

TRE, Guster, anyone else, Mr. krista offered personal consultation on knife-buying if you need it. He asked me some questions about what you were looking for, and of course I don't really know. I didn't mention the country-ham hands.

On another front, where has our GB T Bell been?
The more I read the more I thought I wasn't good enough for a super knife yet, so I went in-between with the thought I can always upgrade. Here's what I got (I really like the damascus look, so that was important to me):

Laguiole Set of 6 Steak Knives - Pakka Wood 1 of: Laguiole Set of 6 Steak Knives - Pakka Wood $74.00

ZHEN Japanese VG-10 Damascus Cutlery Chef Knife, 8-Inch 1 of: ZHEN Japanese VG-10 Damascus Cutlery Chef Knife, 8-Inch [Kitchen] $101.63

Dexter-Russell S5198 Chinese Chef's Cleaver 8-in. 1 of: Dexter-Russell S5198 Chinese Chef's Cleaver 8-in. $36.95

Wusthof Precision Edge 2 Stage Knife Sharpener 1 of: Wusthof Precision Edge 2 Stage Knife Sharpener $19.95

1 of: Norpro 18 Inch Aluminum Magnetic Knife Bar [Kitchen] $15.99

The steak knives and the ZHEN are both pakka wood handles which is neat to me. The ZHEN looks super cool and had solid reviews, so

I won't be sad if OH tells me they suck rhino balls.

I'm sure that it's beneath a real chef but I love this knife. AngryWife has bought two sets since we had these, but I've insisted that this knife always comes along with it.

Tomorrow, I break into the birthday bourbon... Which reminds me, Tre > I have half a box o crap for you that includes your bottle of birthday bourbon. Still need several more things to round it out but I'll try to get it out this weekend next week
Whenever, gb. Maybe we'll drink it at the derby.

That thing's a beast. Love it.Used it at a friend's house one night. About 5 seconds after saying 'I need to get me one of these' I took a chunk of my thumb off with it.

Still went out and got one a week or so later.

Mr krista has some Wusthof that he really likes. I don't know from knives so can't really comment on the rest, but I think he would find this one pretty solid.

Yeah, that knife has claimed lots of finger chunks, but they always seem to grow back. But I love the balance on that knife. And it only seems to happen after I've had a bunch of wine.

Redmond Longhorn cannot make potential cornhole tomorrow due to coaching 3rd-4th grade girls lacrosse. I feel like he's not making that up, despite its sounding quite made up.

I sent a message to 'ninja regardless of prior head-bashing incident.

You've lived in Seattle 10 minutes and have a much wider social circle than I do.

 This has happened to me everywhere other than Atlanta. I tend to meet people quickly and easily, for better or worse.

That Dexter cleaver is a nice value and a good workhorse knife. Dexter is a good, reliable brand and won't make you cry if some dishwasher walks off with it to sell for his drug habit.

I've had other French knives than the French steak knives you listed and they are of superior quality. Not as good as the best from Germany or Japan, but very good. Steak knives get little use, so going for "pretty" is fine, since they'll be on the dining room table most of their life, rather than in the kitchen.

I'm not familiar with ZHEN, but they look good and I'd be willing to give them a go to see what I think.

I bought Rude what I consider very good quality, but not superior knives that I figured would last him (and most home cooks) a couple of decades. Pretty sure they were Dexters, but unsure. Also got him a superior cutting board (Boos), as that can be as important as the knife in the process. Its relatively much higher quality than the knives.

Personally, I've always been fond of Henkels four star, esp. the boning, paring and chef knives.

Speaking of #####, Tanner was in my dream last night. For some reason we were staying at the same hotel and met up for drinks in the hotel bar. A large female bartender kept calling him her "Little Lamb Chop" and he hated it and specifically asked me not to mention it in this thread, That was pretty much it.
Staying at the hotel represents your desire to live in a world other than your own for a while. Maybe there's something your escaping, or maybe there's something you want to try. The large female bartender doesn't seem interested in you, and you don't seem interested in here, even though its your own dream, and you could have imagined anyone you wanted. She seems interested in tanner, and was flirting with him, and you enjoyed making jokes about the flirting more than being the one flirting with a bartender yourself. That's because you place an inordinately high value on having stories to tell, and you want to bang an old man. But it fills you with shame, which is why, in your dream, its his secret, not yours, and you had to invent an unattractive female to do your flirting for you. You're like two steps away from naming your other personalities and giving them different voices.
