Mrs. IB did the pre-adjudivant chemo treatments (pre-surgery) and even though there was no trace of the cancer after the chemo, the doctors still recommended the bilateral mastectomy.

In many of the cases, that's going to be the likely result, so why not jump out and get ahead of the game. Many times when a woman gets a lumpectomy, it comes back at some later date. A lot of women don't want to live with that cloud over their head.

Plus, insurance pays for the bolt-ons.

I haven't been around to post in a while but have been following along. Have had some of my own crap to deal with lately.

It looks like in about a week i am going to be without a job. I spent 13 years with my previous company and knew the time was coming to an end so i had an exit plan. Landed on my feet right away. Did not full see this one coming. So, I have no exit plan and have not really begun looking. I have a prospect back home in North Carolina that i am flying back next week to do on site interviews at. Other than that i am looking at being without benefits at the end of next week. I have never had to look into any of this COBRA stuff. All i know is that it is expensive as balls. Not looking forward to that. I have kind of been feeling down on myself lately and need to get out of a funk to start looking hard for a new job. My wife works at a small non profit and they have no benefits through their organization. So, she is starting to look as well. Some fun times ahead for us.

Just needed to vent some. Thanks for listening.

Hang in there. I do know that Cobra is nothing to mess around with - there is a pretty tight timeline to accept it or you lose insurance. No matter how expensive you don't want insurance to lapse. Good luck, hopefully you will end up with something better immediately or with a better career future.

Very much so. He's got 60 days from the loss of coverage to get something via ACA exchange. He's also got 60 days from the COBRA offer to accept to reject it. If both of those 60 day windows expire, he'll have to go till the end of the year uninsured (unless another "qualifying event" occurs for him).

Can you unpack this a little more for me. So, let's say i were to get let go on the 31st of July from my company. Do my benefits cease right then and there. How do i have 60 days to accept or reject the COBRA or ACA stuff? Would my family not be uninsured for those 60 days as well?

Sorry - never been through this before. Had a separation agreement that i signed on June 1 so i got 30 extra days of benefits from my company before i had to do anything. I found a new job in that 30 days so it was no big deal.

One week update:

Been living in a hotel, which isn't bad. The GM upgraded us to a suite, so we at least had a bit of space to work with. The week was hectic as hell, with the fire in Friday, and then I had 3 finals this week that I wasn't able to study for. Crushed 'em anyway, and maintained my 4.0.

Found out yesterday that we will likely be able to move into a rental home in our own subdivision, so we can avoid having to drive my daughter to school everyday, and she can just take her usual bus. Plus, obviously we are comfortable and familiar with the neighborhood.

I also did hire a public adjuster, and it looks like they will be ripping the house down to the stud walls, and rebuilding.

All in all, this fire thing isn't so bad.
