GM's thread about nothing (17 Viewers)

I'm going to an open bar wedding reception on Saturday. I was gonna tip $5 or $10 every round, but in the link below it says you shouldn't tip. Have you guys found this to be the case? I don't want to be an unsophisticated goon.

Homer? Anyone?

I always tip at open bars. I usually just go up at the beginning and give the lady like $30. I usually end up pretty wasted and good at dancing.

This works or I do a buck a drink or thereabouts.

I always overtip substantially at open bars, figuring (1) most people aren't tipping and (2) the "service/gratuity" is often split with the house, set up people, etc.

An error occurredAbsolutely tip. Depending on the service and how fancy-schmancy the place is give $1-$3 a drink. Don't treat tips like "likes".

Tip.

I usually give the guy 5 or 10 for the first round. This assures me quick service throughout the reception

Sometimes during happy hours the bar gets crowded

Also, my drinks are usually nice and strong when you throw a tip.

Not tipping is weak.

I will say I've been at an open bar event where the host asked the staff to remove all their tip jars from the bar, then handed them a lot of money, and said he didn't want his guests to feel any obligation to pay. In that case, no tip is okay.

My crash test dummy costume made another appearance on Facebook today. Hopefully this will be an acceptable penance for liking Michael Buble.
