GM's thread about nothing (27 Viewers)

I resurrected my fish tank from college at my boy's request. The dog is surprisingly upset about this. He keeps pawing at the tank and hasn't left my side since.
We did a thing with the kids where we had caterpillars and raised them into butterflies and kept them in this butterfly keeper thing. Man that drove Murray the cat crazy until we put it in a different room.
Dog earlier today

Whiskey or swill...tough decision
Both
Went whiskey...might go brandy next
Dipped into a little Brandy myself tonight. Good times.
lol

I would be all for a separate thread for our draft, but jealous dickmittens would probably dump all over it.

Bentley> lemme know when you're ready to explore the dives in your new 'hood. I'm at one now.
Thanks, man. Moving next Friday. Will be nice to get some time at BB Rovers again. Used to watch every Cowboys game there before JR came along.

Dungeon is so derogatory.

Semi-Interesting local story going on.

Short version: On 4th of July this guy that I went to HS with (Jim) was filling up giant balloons with acetylene and then blowing them up. One of the balloons went off prematurely and burned Jim and 3 others. Apparently the fire department and local law enforcement agencies had no idea it happened until one of the local news stations did a report on Jim's recovery.

Yadda yadda...they arrested Jim this morning.

JFC Terrible story but they arrest the guy? Sheesh. LMFAO@ "it's called playing the odds" though

Trino's bail has been set at $1,755,000 and Elizondo's bail has been set at $1,592,500.

Very specific amount. And reasonable too. Sounds like your buddy got a "live one" for a judge.

Yeah. I'm not sure of all the legalities and whatnot but I'm guessing that a couple of the other guys that were injured wanted to file charges or whatever.

As far as the "playing the odds" thing...this guy has always been a nutjob. He was 3 years ahead of me in school. I had an Art class with him.

It seemed like everybody had a "Trino" story to tell. When he was a freshman he earned the nickname "Scab" because he fell out of the back of a moving pickup and had road-rash all over his back. Another guy I know tells a story about how a bunch of them were driving out to the lake and Jim was in the back of a pickup (no the one he fell out of) and he starts throwing full cans of beer at other cars.

A few years after I graduated from HS I ran into Jim. At that time his "job" was something like "extreme speed skiing". He was trying to break the world record for MPH on skis. Now he's apparently a stand-up comedian...locally.

I think Trino was also charged with "felon in possession of ammunition". He had a felony drug arrest sometime back in the late 90s.

Another reason why (I think) they're are coming down hard on these guys is that about 10 years ago a guy was killed on the 4th of July thanks to a homemade explosive device.

Some chuckleheads were filling empty CO2 canisters with gunpowder and then using them to blow up watermelons. Shrapnel from one of the explosions hit some poor neighbor guy in the freaking chest and killed him.

Here's something weird. One of the dolts from the CO2 story is the son of the guy that taught the Art class I had with Jim.

Never been a heavy smoker, 2 packs a week probably at my worst, but I've never really stopped either. 1-2 a day maybe, plenty of big weekend benders of a full pack a night kind of thing, etc. Pretty sure this 6 days is the longest I've gone without since a family vacation back when I was 22. Softball on Monday is going to be tough.
Just remind yourself if that if you have one, you have to start those 6 first days all over again.

That's not too too bad, but yeah, giving it up is the right thing to do.

I've told my story numerous times, but I was like you once upon a time. A social smoker, heavier when drinking, maybe a pack or two a week at most. But I didn't really like myself very much when I did it and when I quit, I told myself I wouldn't beat myself up if I cheated here or there, I just wouldn't start the habit back up. That was September 1999 and it has worked pretty well for me. I'll share a smoke with a buddy once in a blue moon or if I'm on a bender, I'll choke down a handful, but I leave it there and move on. Probably average a pack a year with this strategy. Not for everybody and it means I never really quit, but I'm comfortable saying I'm not a smoker.

Day 6 officially in the books. :hifive:

Probs, but I'm going with it. I have a reward smoke event already picked out a month from now. Perhaps when I get to it I won't want it, but having that out there in the future is helping.

I'm also on the GM plan. Probably 2 packs a year but concentrated to just a few occasions. Everyone seems to think that is pretty atypical.

My wife suggested that I go to her restaurant to watch the Bears-Eagles game tonight. I've known her for 26 years and yet I still cannot get her to understand where preseason football falls on the importance scale.
Maybe she just wanted to spend some time with you, jerkface.

OK, but don't say I didn't warn you. Not that it can't or hasn't worked for others. But just because it has doesn't mean it will for you. It never did for me. Always ended up spiraling down into full addiction.

Totally get it and you've warned me. My "reward" is out of state on a work trip, and I'm hoping that it will be enough out of the ordinary that it won't crate any kind of backslide. Actually I'm hoping when I get out there I won't want it. Actually I'm hoping to make it that far and then just go from there.

That couldn't possibly be it.
Forgot who I was talking to. My bad.
Big mistake, mon frere.

I had an "Uncle" Gus. Nice guy, died of Parkinson's. My other Uncle John, every time he saw Gus, he would say "Hey it's Gus? Don't cuss, call Guss, he'll cuss for all of us!". Like all the way until he was in a wheelchair. Love my Uncle John, he's a funny ####er, but I'm pretty sure Uncle Gus's dying wish was to disembowel my Uncle John.
My grandpa died of Parkinson's. He was a WW2 guy in the Philippines. Wish I was old enough when he was alive to think to ask him some stories.
Papa, tell me about when the filthy Japs cut your best friend's head off on the Bataan Death March. Also, did you have to eat bugs? Cuz that's gross!

I had a kid in summer school. He was half Indian and half Malaysian (I think). This kid had like a 5.0 GPA, National Honor Society, student government etc. I asked him where he was planning on going to college next year and he said he was trying to decide between Cal, Stanford, Cal Tech, and MIT.

He was also about 6'4". After the first week I'm pretty sure I called him nothing but "Stretch" .
Most guys over 6'3 I call sir.
Damn. Just shy. :kicksrock:
