We have now seen why Burfict went undrafted, because he is a vile thing no one wanted to waste time on.

It doesnt matter your talent, boneheads like him can lose you a game in one play.

Marvin Lewis should be fired for the simple fact he let this guy on the field with the game on the line and with how his temper was all game.

There were specific plays, it may well have been LAST YEAR ..... in the same game with our hero Vontaze Burfict at the center of the controversy.

In the plays, it shows him at the end of the play clearly trying to twist/break?? an opponents ankle after going down.

He "targeted" Cam Newton and Greg Olsen both in the same game, and if you go dig up the video, the Olsen footage is just downright disgusting. It is absolutely clear he was trying to twist Olsen's ankle.

He was fined $25,000 for these actions, possibly more.

At some point, you have to realize it is intentional and address it more severely.

Its going to take him, (or someone like him) actually ending a players career in a primetime game on a national scale for it to be addressed as it should be.

He has a track record, and its not like he has come out and tried to deny anything either, as far as I can recall.

Make him the poster child.........

Ban him from the game forever, and make it known to anyone in the NFL that this type of animal behavior isn't to be tolerated.

Some of those "flying shots" are hard to control, and harder to try and figure out if they are intentional or not.

But those ankle incidents were about as plain as you can get.

He may get fined, but I doubt its much more than that done.

As I alluded to above, its going to take an absolutely heinous, obvious incident that ends in terrible injury for something to be done.

Bengals lost because they deserved to lose. They lost their composure big time. Hill cannot fumble that ball after Burfict intercepts the ball. Worst case scenario--he just gets down 2-3 times in a row---makes Pitt use their timeouts--and they hit a FG to force Pitt to score a TD with no timeouts left.

Once Hill fumbled the ball--Burfict and Pacman gifting the Steelers 30 penalty yards was boneheaded. Brown was not going to catch that ball so there was no reason for him to take that cheap shot. Pacman's stupidity then made a potential 50 yard game winning field goal into a chip shot. This is not gods work--this is what happens when stupidity dominates over composure.

With that being said---these are just my personal takes on some of the controversial plays in the game:

Shaziers hit to Gio--Regardless of what the rule book says--that was a dirty hit--and the way that he celebrated it while the medical staff was tending to Bernard was just as classless as Bengals fans that booed Big Ben getting injured.

Burficts hit on Big Ben--didn't find this one dirty. Ben had plenty of time to throw the ball away. He notoriously tries to buy time--and in this case it cost him. Once him and Burfict were on the ground--yeah--there may have been some extra stuff--but my guess is that this type of thing happens in the middle of every pile in the NFL. I have no issue with this one .

Burficts hit on Brown- As dirty as it was stupid. Brown was easily defenseless and it looked pretty obvious to me that Burfict was head hunting. He's lucky that one of the best talents in the game didn't get seriously hurt. Dude deserves a huge punishment.

How about the OC not choosing a bad play for the 2 pt conversion?

This is something that has been overlooked in all the meltdowns, imo. AJ Green is surprised to get a decent pass from McCarron and scores, he forgets it is a no brainer that they should go for 2 to go up by a FG? Or, is the best player on your team not in the game plan for a 2 pt conversion? The best play Hue Jackson can come up with is a toss sweep to Jeremy Hill? WTF? In the midst of the celebration it seemed they lost track of time and rushed the play. A timeout there may have been the best move to discuss a very important 2 pt play, which maybe should have included AJ Green.

Bengals couldn't run the ball but when you are in the shotgun all the time and hand it to Hill where he has to dance around to find a hole, something that isn't his strong suit, you may as well go to a wild cat. When the bengals got inside the 10 on one series, they went to the eye formation with Hill and a lead blocker. 8 yards first time, then an easy TD on the next play. Last time they went with that formation, Hill gets 9 yards (of course he fumbles but still a good gain).

If you want to establish the run, why not use a power formation and try to run it? With a young backup QB, that could have been a way to help him out in such a big game. But Hue Jackson chose to stay in the shotgun the whole game. I guess that was their game plan but.. it didn't work. The power eye seemed to work.

But, Hue Jackson is going to be a head coach next season. Head scratcher.

From the NFL Rulebook, and the rulebook says it was a penalty. To the people defending it as a clean hit, I will say you honestly do not know the rule and it is not an opinion, you are just flat out wrong.

It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture.

(2) A receiver attempting to catch a pass; or who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player;

Thank you for quoting the rule book. The referees...the guys who get paid to know these rules...aren't even in agreement during the same game or on a weekly basis as to what the rules are and how to enforce them.

In this situation it seems Burfict was required to stop, wait for the receiver to catch the ball on the run and then turn around and chase him because...well, the NFL is flag football now.

Burfict has a much deserved reputation, but this is a contact sport and we are micro analyzing split second decisions made while watching plays in super slow motion from 5 different angles.

But again. the rules have become so complex it is like reading the tax code when it comes to legal hits, why a catch is a catch and not a catch simply because where the catch or non catch occurred, or fumbles that clearly appear to be fumbles but aren't fumbles.

And don't we all love the little bubble wrap we put on QBs. Fun game.

I don't have a dog in this fight and it doesn't matter to me who wins. So the play I watched last night looked legal and intense as a playoff game should. It's a travesty that the refs would call that at the end of the game.

People who think that hit was legal have to be fishing...I can't understand otherwise how any sane person would watch that play and think...oh, thats a clean legal hit.

There is a different between personally being OK with hits like that and them being against the rules. Hits to the helmet can be accidental even in an intentional hit. A matter of inches changes a lot in a high speed game. I love hard hitting football and I am OK with the hit on Gio and the Beckham hit on Norman. I am not OK with Burficts hit because he has a history of doing such things. I believe the Beckham/Norman issues were just a boil over of constant conflict all game but both players do not have a dirty history. I thought a fine for OBJ was in order, not a suspension. I normally do not like to see players get suspended for hits like this, its football it happens. But this and because of how dirty Burfict is, he has to sit down for a couple games to keep consistent with how they league handles this. 2 games to start next year, at least.

Why ok with Beckham? Talk about dirty...had zero to do with the play and he lined him up to take a shot at him and was head hunting just as much (if not more so) as Burfict.

Shaziers I understand from the aspect of coming up to make a hit. I don't think it was dirty in the way the other 2 were.

It was a dumb way to hit and tackle and incredibly dangerous for both him and Gio though and should be taught as how not to tackle.

Yeah, don't know how someone can be ok with beckham's behavior (obviously, they would be in the minority given how the league reacted) but not be ok with burfict.

He said he was not ok with it because the guy has priors. That in itself suggests he is making his judgment much more heavily on how he feels about him than the actual play.

To be honest, if you pulled a guy off the street that stopped watching football 5 years ago and showed him that play, he'd probably say that's one of the best physical hits he has seen since the 80's. Point being, the rules have changed but not in the past few years. It's just under such scrutiny now.

We all have our opinions on these plays and even the professionals who are paid to judge them are inconsistent. That line of whether brown was "defenseless" or not could be debated. I've seen brown several times take hits in similar position, slide off, and go down the field. With teams' seasons on the line, you know those players aren't going to ease up. There were hard hits on both sides. The Bengals would not have been in the position to win without burfict and because the refs called it the way they saw it, it cost them. Given how ramped up that game got and with Burfict at the center of most of it, I'm not surprised they called it the way they did but something tells me that had that been Luke kuechly making a similar play on Doug Baldwin (and kuechly hadn't been causing so much trouble all game), we would probably be talking about an all time game stopping play.

If there is blame here it is on Lewis. He should have learned from caughlin that there are times when some of these knuckleheads need to come off the field.

Buy we both know he was out to injure someone. There were even reports that he had to be calmed down on the sideline after Gio took his shot.

You are absolutely right. The game has passed you by. It has been wussified to the point where intentionally injuring a player completely after the play was over is no longer encouraged and is now in fact penalized. Walk on by, don't look back.

To the rest of you, do you think the OTHER intentional injuring of a fellow player in the same game will lead to an increased suspension compared to if those occurrences happened in different games? It is entirely possible Ben's injury was caused as much by the knee as the sack itself, which would mean one player knocked out the two best players on a playoff team on illegal hits. Personally, I'd have him sit the season out if it is possible under the guidelines. The guy is bad for the game, but beyond that, he may well kill someone on the field.

Burfict ended LeVeon Bell's season, tried to take out Ben Roethlisbergers knee, attempts to twist off the ankles of Cam Newton and Greg Olsen and then goes after Antonio Brown with a head shot last night after doing it the previous week against Maxx Williams.

Injuries are inevitable but this guy is a one man wrecking crew. It sucks to have a loose cannon like Burfict having that much affect on an entire league.

These guys have all-world talent but the brains of a pitt bull .​ Why do you think so many teams don't want these guys and they slide thru the draft? I guarantee you 10 out of 10 of the top coaches in the league wouldn't roster either one of them.

Burfict shouldn't be allowed to play in the NFL. They talk about player safety all the time but Pacman, Pollard, Merriweather, Burfict, Ward, Suh - habitual ####lords that occasionally get slaps on the wrist.

Yep but Sazier's torpedo to Gio's head with the top of his helmet was a nice clean play that knocked Gio out cold for 5 minutes. Not a fan of either team but man the criticism of players and coaches was so one sided in that game it was crazy.

Everyone was cool with an assistant coach on the field going after six opposing players but not happy at all with the players reacting to it.

Burfict ended LeVeon Bell's season, tried to take out Ben Roethlisbergers knee, attempts to twist off the ankles of Cam Newton and Greg Olsen and then goes after Antonio Brown with a head shot last night after doing it the previous week against Maxx Williams.

Injuries are inevitable but this guy is a one man wrecking crew. It sucks to have a loose cannon like Burfict having that much affect on an entire league.

If Goodell has balls, he'll suspend him for four games. And if the Players Association is smart, they won't appeal. The league should not tolerate someone whose intention nearly every week is to injure players.

I am as big of a Bengals fan as there is on these boards and I wouldn't dispute a Burfict suspension of multiple games. He's a repeat offender and while I overall don't mind the Bengals out-bully the bully mentality, you have to accept the inevitable consequences. Sometimes that means a penalty, or a suspension, or even a playoff exit.

Besides, they can survive part of a regular season without him.
