Golf Bag for Travel (1 Viewer)

The General

Footballguy
Need a golf bag for an upcoming trip, I'll be checking them in on a flight and need to pickup a travel bag. Tons of options on Amazon. Any recommendations?

Is something like this enough padding for checking a bag, those dudes destroy my luggage and wasn't sure if I need to get one of the hardshell ones: LINK

I've had a Club Glove Last Bag for (best guess) 15+ years.  It's been on dozens of trips and across the ocean a few times too.  It is in flawless condition...just used it to fly to LA a week ago.

If you are worried about protecting your driver...get a piece a PVC pipe from home depot and cut it to 1" longer than your driver, and place it next to the driver in your bag.

that one in the link is fine, though i prefer a hard-shell for added protection. i'm also a fan of packing T-shirts, socks, underwear in/around the clubs in the travel bag.

just make sure you have adequate insurance if the bag goes lost or damaged...especially if you have new(er) clubs and high-end brands.

Amazon linked a product to that bag I was looking at that does pretty much you are saying - an extendible bar thing that extends above the clubs.

Something like that seems smart if I don't get the hard shell.

if you go that route, take a bath towel and wrap it around the middle of all your club heads (woods).   I've used a soft travel back for years and just wrap a big towel in between all the headcovers.

if you are loaded, use www.shipsticks.com
In comparison to the average guy I'm doing ok - to FBG's I'm just a middle of the road tax bracket.

That service does look pretty sweet. On my phone so will check into it later. I'm guessing it's a but spendy for a man of the people like myself

Thanks. Pretty sure I'm going to grab that one. Has a ton of reviews and is a good deal. May swing by the shop on way home tonight to see what they have.

Definitely will be packing everything nicely. Just bought new driver and woods last season.

First golf trip to Scottsdale. Pumped!

Arizona is my favorite place to golf.  So much awesome in Scottsdale/Tucson.

After a bit of reading got this one. Came with a stiff arm pole thing to protect the longer clubs. Sounds pretty much indestructible from what you wrote and reading other reviews. Thanks for the heads up.

you already have your tee times booked?  If not, I can help score you some deals at some of the better courses out there.  just let me know.

Sweet. My father in law lives there and is a member at a course but will see what else he has planned - think we were talking about playing a couple of different places.

Appreciate it.

i'm headed there end of April.  Troon, Grayhawk, and TPC Scottsdale.  can't wait

clubglove is a great travel bag.  Tour Trek makes a nice one too.

Make your way a little north to my hood and play the Boulders, beautiful course.

I got the Club Glove last year with the Stiff Arm. I've traveled a few times with my clubs since then and haven't had any problems.

Second vote on Boulders - played there last October and had a great time. It's a beautiful course.

Club glove is good. I have an ogio yeti (soft bag) that I have zero complaints about as well.

Which course are you mainly playing in Scottsdale? I've played a ton in that area.

Troon is awesome. So well kept. Haven't played gray hawk. Tpc at full rate to me is a bit too pricey. You're really playing it to say you played the course you see on tv. Frankly, there's probably ten better courses in Scottsdale.

Nice advice on the pvc pipe - thanks!

FIL lives in Scottsdale, up near The Boulders I think its called. He has set up a couple of times and am assuming it's up that neck of the woods. He's really good and plays often so totally left it up to him. Looked up a few of the courses people said in here and they all look amazing.

I live in Seattle area and have played once since last Fall so I'm just looking forward to some sun, just a mediocre player so hopefully getting in a few decent swings as well.

We are doing that. Looks awesome. FIL is a big golfer and had only heard "they don't use real balls there"
I took my kids (15, 11) and neither are any good but they had a blast.  It's good fun even if you suck.  Bring a few people with you and it's a party.

Is it like a bowling alley where you reserve the spot/sitting area you hit from? If so do you need to get reservations in advance?

I "think" you can reserve, but not sure.  Basically you get your own bay like bowling.  From there you can choose from a number of games.  You'll have a server that brings you food and drinks. You pay for the bay per hour.

It's one of those things that when you experience it you wonder how no one thought of this sooner.

My buddies and I have joked around for years about opening a driving range that was also a beer place - Drink and Drive (name needs work). Those bastards stole our idea.
