No, that was just a bonus. This was when the Fire TVs were sold out and I was in a pinch. I had some bad luck with a few other Android TV boxes and dropped the extra coin for the peace of mind.

I have an nVida Shield and I love it. But the play store is a pared down version to suit that particular device. You still end up side loading apps.

Amazon's browser Silk will let you watch youtube just like the app.  Problem solved, one point to Amazon.

I remember sideloading the google store apk on the firestick. Assuming it's the same method. If this becomes a pita it might motivate me to get the nvidia shield :flex:

On my fire I just played YouTube on silk like cav said. 

I also was able to play it on chrome and the YouTube app which I downloaded from the Google store. 

So, so far, so good for fire.

I have the play store on both fire tablets and two Alexa's. These two fighting is stupid, they could easily coexist if they just let people do their thing. I also have a Pixel phone that ok googles and Alexa who shuts the lights off. I need both of these great companies.
