Google Reader Being Retired (1 Viewer)

I really like Press for mobile. It currently piggybacks on Google Reader to keep track of RSS subscriptions, which articles have been read, etc., but they say they'll have another back-end solution by D- Day.

In Chrome on a desktop, I'm still using Google Reader, but I've tried Feedly and it doesn't seem terrible.

Apparently, Feedly is going to be that new back end. Scroll down to the picture: http://blog.feedly.com/2013/06/04/feedly-is-listening-the-roadmap-you-helped-us-shape/

Just switched to Feedly and it took less than five minutes + a few more to sort out the new keystrokes. Couldn't have been easier and basically replicates the way I used Reader. 10/10

ETA: I use Firefox.

I transitioned to Feedly a month ago, love it for how I use it, haven't looked back. Mainly use it through the app on ios.

Just installed the feedly app on my Nexus 7. Better than the Google Reader Android app and significantly better than the Windows 8 Google Reader app. This might be a keeper.

It looks like Feedly is ready to roll out their back-end solution:

[iMPORTANT] Preparing to be upgraded to the new feedly cloud Posted on June 17, 2013 by @feedly
We are in the process of finalizing the migration from the Google Reader back end to the new feedly cloud backend. This is an important post to help you prepare for the final step.

PreparingIt is important that you run version 16 of feedly on all your devices.

On Firefox and Safari, you can go to http://www.feedly.com/index.html and manually re-install the app and restart the browser. The latest feedly desktop number is 16.0.514.

On iOS and Android, it is important that you go to the App Stores and make sure that you have the latest update. If you are not sure, you can un-install the app and re-install it. The latest android version is 16.0.5. The latest iOS version is 16.0.1.

I've been using feedly and its ok, but my work computer only has IE8 and feedly will not work with that version. Any reader alternatives that work on outdated browsers?

This seems to be the catching point. Netvibes works OK on my browser but doesn't have an app...

Just use Chrome Frame. Oh, they're retiring that too. Never mind then.

I'm still very happy with Press when I'm on my phone or tablet. It works exactly the same as before.

When I'm on my desktop, I liked the look and feel of Google Reader better than feedly, but they're functionally pretty similar.

You're doing something wrong. They have a new cloud service that works on all browsers.

Digg reader is the best I've tried so far. Wasn't really liking Feedly. Only beef with Digg is that it doesn't automatically mark pages as read and does not give a count of unread items.

Still happy with Feedly -- it's pretty much exactly the same as Google Reader for me.

Woke up this morning to find they've added a search function for articles in your feed.

Just put in a bug report, so we'll see what happens. I can recreate it almost 100% of the time. Glad to see they have a search option now.
