Great article on Marvin Harrison (1 Viewer)

:thumbup:We are all lucky to have the chance to watch this guy play.

In a world of undignified shouting, Harrison is a whisperer. And in a league of exhibitionists, he resolutely maintains his humility and privacy. It's tempting to wonder what he might be hiding. The answer is, nothing. "It's almost like he's a mysterious person, until you get to know him, and then you realize, what you see is what you get," Watson says. A little prodding reveals that Harrison's mysterious off the field activities really only consist of going home to Philadelphia, where he hangs out with the same old friends he grew up with."I mean, I live a normal life," he says. "I just try to live a normal life, whatever that is."As for those closely held aspirations of his, his old tutor Fararow lets the shoe drop. When Harrison retires, he will finish his masters. And then he'd like to do something truly marvelous, and worthy of headlines. He'd like to become a schoolteacher.

This is a funny quote as a juxtaposition to Allen Iverson's famous quote about 'practice.'

"They don't pay me to play, they pay me to practice," he says. "Playing, that's what you do for free. That's what you do for fun."

this guy has posted this story before along with his anti Harrison remarks. Seems he has some personal agenda against him... The hawaii thing has no merit to it at all and nothing became of it...

Marvin acts like he's been in the endzone before. He reeks of class.

You know, if everyone appreciates how underappreciated you are, then are you really underappreciated?

I'd nominate Holt as the truly underappreciated WR in the NFL, since he's just as classy and underappreciated as Harrison, but he doesn't get all the articles about how classy and underappreciated he is.

he also was willing to dress in a tutu and put on make-up for that ficticious magazine on the monday night practical joke segment, so that counts for something in my eyes.

Plus I've never seen Marvin Harrison do anything like this.

Xcellent article. Thanks for sharing. Indianapolis Coach Tony Dungy believes that the only people who properly appreciate Harrison are the people "who have to cover him." Last winter, ESPN queried nine defensive backs: Who is the toughest player to cover in the league? Eight answered: Marvin Harrison.

You're right, Harrison would've just caught it right the first time it hit his hands.

I , for one, have been blessed with being able to watch him in person for 1-12 games per year since he entered the league.

Our seats at the dome are on the 8YL 15 rows up. We have seen so many terrific catches.

I am terribly thankful for having had the opportunity to be a witness to his greatness.

Anybody see Marv in action last night? He got stripped by Lito Sheppard in the 4th q after a pass reception and just stood around and didn't bother to track Lito down. Also heard he left the field right before halftime. And all this while his team was winning. If TO/Moss pulled this last night, we wouldn't hear the end of it.

Yeah, he seemed a little off last night. Actually, I've seen him leave quite a few plays on the field this year (went OB untouched on opponents one yard line, seems disinterested leaving the huddle). Perhaps he has some off-the-field issues we don't know about? Maybe he's getting a little bored with the game?Pure speculation, and let me add that I think he's great. He just seems a bit off this year.

It is called "pouting" becaues he's not THE GUY anymore and not getting enough targets. And what's with all of the Red Zone running the ball nonsense?

You're right. It was disappointing to watch.

I have to say, I was disappointed with Harrison's actions last night. He was definitely taking plays off, and his apporach at the LOS was almost telegraphing to the defense that runs were being called. There were 3 plays or so in a row last night where he very non-chalantly apporaoched the line as is saying "why even line up, were running it left... I could see it from my living room, so I have to imagine it's even easier to see if you are playing defense against Indy.

I agree - I saw the same thing. And imagine - I went into last night's game tied with my fantasy opponent 109-109. His players are all done, but I had Harrison and Ahman Green still to play. So imagine my feelings watching Harrison catch 1 pass for 8 yards, when I get 1 point for every 2 receptions and 1 for every 10 yards. Now going into tonight's game - I'm still tied!Obviously I should still be ok, but I'm a little nervous that I could wind up with Green going for 12 carries for 28 yards and fumble - and I don't even break my tie after looking like I'd win easily! Also it's a bit disheartening, and I'm sure would be even more so for a Colts fan. I thought Harrison was a great example of someone who just went about their work and wasn't a prima donna. But it does seem like he's pouting that Wayne is getting more looks or that they were just running the ball last night (even though Philly couldn't stop it). The way he quit on the INT was very disappointing - especially when you consider it was at least partly his fault.
