Man, I see this thing is still going. If I die please let me die at a Taylor Swift show. Her fans will breathe life into the deadest of things.

As opposed to all the non-dead threads on the FFA right now? What else is there to discuss on Page 1 of this place?

I posted a Tina song trying to interject some new discussion because I don't think she belongs in a discussion about pop artists and I think her voice is top tier amongst the choices. Damn she good.

I'm not telling you what to talk about in the least. I'm not going to be the guy that says "Why do you care so much?" I loathe when people psychoanalyze me that way or tell me what to talk about or how to talk about it. Drives me nuts. If you took it that way, I am sorry. That wasn't my intent.

There is an undeniable fervidity to her fans that is remarkable as its own subject.

Every fanbase of a band or artist with any kind of popularity has a percentage of fans who are rabid, to say the least. She just has more fans now than any other living musician except maybe Paul McCartney, so hers stand out more than others. That is part of it. And there is no doubt that she has built up a personal connection with her fans that is unlike anything else we've seen in the modern era (I get that some non-fans won't see it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist), so the average Swift fan probably feels more of a connection with her than say the average GnR fan does to Axl Rose, for example, lol.

I was going to say that it was so odd that TS is winning this but didn't have any albums on the album countdown but I looked back and saw that Folklore did make it. I've only ever listened to one TS but I know and like a few Madonna songs. I think you could argue that TS is better since she's insanely popular and has a big pile of cash but I also think that her competition is alot less than what Madonna faced in the 80's and 90's. Madonna is a household name 40 years later...Taylor is the IT girl now but will she be a household name in 40 years?

Madonnas roster is more impressive though. :P

Taylor has been doing it for 20 years. Her debut album in 2006 was a massive hit. She's also been insanely successful and popular across 2 different genres. Can't say that about Madonna.

And, Taylor is a very good musician, playing multiple instruments including guitar, piano and banjo. How many instruments can Madonna play?
As a fan, I would say Taylor is a competent musician. Certainly better than Madonna, but nothing notable in that regard. She can play well enough to write songs on guitar and piano and whatnot, but she is never gonna be someone who can go out there and do an improv jam with others; that is not her thing. And I don't think she cares about that. She identifies as a songwriter first, and playing instruments is a merely a tool to help her write songs, which is probably why she rarely plays on her newer albums; she lets the musicians in her band handle that since they are better and will do a better job with the playing. And when you look at her success, I'd say it is working for her. I will take a great songwriter who is merely a competent musician over a great musician who cannot write a song any day of the week.

When you say "man, I see this thing is still going", my pushback to that is "as opposed to what, in the FFA?" There's not much activity anywhere else in here, right?
Maybe I read you wrong. Sorry if I did and no sorry needed from you. I do agree the fervor for Swift is unlike anything I've ever seen. I wasn't alive for Beatlemania and I never really got into Michael Jackson (plus, he was a monster). Maybe K-Pop is similar in its popularity to Swift?

And her fans aren't breathing life into your dead corpse at her shows. They'll stand on you to get a better view. ;)

I would rather see Tina Turner in her prime than anyone else on the list.

Here is a blistering live performance clip from the "Hollywood A-Go Go" TV show in 1965 (Sorry about the For Research Only lettering in middle of the screen).
