Green Bay Packers Thread (1 Viewer)

If only we had drafted a WR from last year’s stacked WR draft class......
Sure...yet this is another deep group.

Which still means its possible they don't spend high draft capitol on WR and sign their own guys.  (hoping at a minimum Adams...I would have tried to redo Rodgers contract just to resign Adams).

This chart is really interesting. I didn't know certain positions did so poorly in terms of teams wanting to sign a second contract.

Getting tired of Rodgers’ act to be honest. We have been spoiled but both Favre and Rodgers are so unlikeable.

now you say you want out? You couldn’t ask out before they gave 100 mil to Bakhtari? Or re-signed Jones. What a diva.

Im tired with both of the sides here.  Packers for screwing this all up...Rodgers for now throwing a fit.  Not sure how long its been going and when he first started showing this...but the leak coming today is interesting, that is for sure.

Oh make no mistake - last years draft was an abomination that defied all logic.

But Rodgers diva act is wearing thin. He refused to help out the team by converting his salary in the off season. While a leader like Brady does it year after year.

Brady also gets to make a lot of calls on team decisions.  Helps when you have 26 super bowl rings.

Probably not fair to judge by Brady's standards. Manning didn't, brees didn't, roethlisberger didn't, wilson isn't, etc.

ETA: also brady got several guys signed, like Antonio brown for instance.

Haven’t looked at all those QBs but several of them did in fact convert their salary. This isn’t the question of taking a pay cut. It’s just about converting salary to a signing bonus. Rodgers refused.

I think Rodgers refused an extension.  I think they could have converted some of his salary without his actual permission.

Anyway...this news just threw this whole thing into a giant flux for fans.

I dont think we see movement on him tonight.   So my gut tells me this pick (if they stay put) is OL or CB.  ILB and WR obviously popular picks but they have not seemed to value those positions as first round picks.  WR seems more like a 2nd or 3rd round (and we may even see 2 in their first 5 picks)

Not too many guys at those 4 positions (outside of huge reaches of course) that I would not be happy with.

I wouldn’t worry about Rodgers leaving. He is just pouting publicly for a new contract. Packers will cave.

You really don't think he told them this months ago and it's just become public because they didn't believe him and didn't do anything?

Anyways, go ahead and get rid of him. Writing was on the wall last year, he was never staying after they drafted Love.

The timing of when they told him no extension to now offering it will be interesting to know.

CB...too much talent at WR that will still be there in the 2nd.  Is Elijah Moore or Rondale Moore or any other in the 2nd any different from each other?

And 2nd round may be OL too.

Would have liked Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah but fine with this pick - speedy corner which played top level competition. Badly needed cornerback help.

2nd lowest completion percentage allowed in college football. (Press coverage only?)

With speed.

It works...just so much draft capital on defense over the years which fuels the “haven't surrounded Rodgers with talent” talk

Agreed it just sucks they’ve spent so much recent draft capital on DBs.  Jaire was a HR, King mediocre and Jackson, Randall and Rollins huge busts.  Really hope this Stokes kid can play.

Agreed.  At some point you have to realize that maybe we're not good at drafting certain positions and just fill it via FA.  The last 10 1st round picks are defense and Rodgers' replacement.  And the defense still has a lot of room for improvement.  Could argue they'd be really hurting if not for the FA Smith signings.  I don't blame Rodgers one bit for saying F-off.

They used 6 of their last 9 first picks on defensive backs, so you'd expect it to be a position of strength.  I guess you could say Gutekunst seems to be a bit better at it than Thompson and his group were in their last couple years. I don't like the idea of a track guy playing football, but obviously its a position of need and all we can do is wait to see how he pans out.

Regarding Rodgers, I don't think we know what he's actually saying until we hear it from him.  The rumors are likely exaggerated.  My guess is he wants more money.  We know he's got a weird self-esteem issue and a quirky personality when it comes to his pride, his public image and perceived slights, but he's not stupid.

well i hope that a a ron comes back i have loved watching him more than any other player i have ever watched his game is just fantastic and you are always in it with him behind center now eventually it was going to end one way or the other and i would be bummed if this is how it ends but if it does end i am never going to hate a guy that has given me so much joy through the years but hey brohans i sure hope they can work it out and that he sticks around and and and that they put some playmakers around him take that to the bank bromigos

Hearing that the Packers REALLY wanted to take Bateman with that pick last night.
Would have been cool with that too. I think there are still some very good receivers out there if they want to go that route.

Corner has been an issue so if that was BPA completely fine with it.

Really need to address Defense. A playmaker at wide receiver would be great too. And an interior O lineman.

Lots of work still but there should be a really good player at our next pick that will contribute. Unlike our wasted  first two picks last season.

I think you have to see either OL or WR tonight...if not both.

Let’s get a little crazy and move up 3 spots to Cleveland.  with 10 picks this year, giving up a little draft capital to get your guy and silence the noise that Rodgers & the “experts” are drumming up seems like a really good idea. Filling the CB need is SOP for GB, flip the script just a lil bit.

Great leadership qualities.
To defend Rodgers these guys are great because they believe they are great and when a team does a number of things to undermine you I get why you want out.

Great player <> great leader. A good leader doesn't air out his dirty laundry in public and set a bad example for his teammates.

I don't disagree

But i also think you can't just keep pushing these guys.  Great coaches, great owners know when they have a great player and how to treat them.

You're right, but I honestly don't know what the organization did that offended or disrespected him so much. Draft a QB last year as an eventual replacement someday. Kind of like when they drafted him when they already had Favre? By offering him an extension (which he didn't accept)?

I think it's the moving up.  I think it was the change in coach and style.  It was the frustration of the bad year when he was forced into a new offense.

I don't know.  My two cents

Taking a QB in round 1 is like a stab in the back.  Moving up to do is like twisting that knife to make sure he really feels it.

Gutie already waited too long to trade him but he's probably looking for 2025 picks anyway.  I'll always stick with the team and be back no matter what.  I certainly hope Rodgers can move on and win a ring for a front office that wants to win a ring now.  And not just a team looking to be good for the next decade.

That's a good summary of what I was thinking as well.

I hope he moves on too.  He deserves another crack.

He forced the new offense though.  It was him that led to McCarthy’s end in GB.  Also...that new offense was the #1 scoring offense last year and made him MVP.  I don’t think LaFleur is a sore spot with him at this point.  IMO he is caught in the middle.

A stab in the back?  After three seasons where people were questioning what he had left...the numbers were not great even before the new offense.   And they took a project at QB that they and he knew would sit for at least 2-3 years.

Yes...its still a dumb pick...even dumber to move up.   But the stab in the back is some if the most thin skinned crap from a guy who was just given an extension a year or so before that draft pick was made.  Again paying him record breaking money.

Like the Myers pick a lot. Should slide right in as a starter at either center or guard.
Hopefully center keeping Jenkins at guard or allowing Jenkins to slide to tackle til Bahktiari is ready.

Will be compared with Humphrey taken just after him.

With all their capital left...id love a move up in the 3rd to secure a WR or LB.

He might not anymore but i think there was some animosity that first year.

Setting aside the Rodgers drama...the draft seems to have gone well.

I won't get into grading guys who have not even stepped in a practice yet...or the "they could have had this guy instead" stuff.  We all know different teams evaluate guys differently (and different than the Kipers and PFF's of the world).

1st 3 picks...went pretty much as one would expect which may be scary...drafted maybe BPA...but also to fit needs.  Something you typically have not seen out of teams and especially GB.

But if you looked at need...they needed Dline, Oline, CB, and WR...and grabbed 3 of those in the first 3 rounds...

Then added another OL in the 4th, and DL in the 5th.

Who knows how they will all fit...given cap restraints and what all we can or can't do with Rodgers and his contract in the coming months...but seems like decent guys to try to step in.   Looks like the first 3 will have roles immediately.  With the new A.Rodgers probably more special teams and some slot/gimmick work on sweeps and things (the Tyler Ervin role).

Zero problem with this draft. Night and day better than last years.

I like all of the offensive line picks and am glad that the position was addressed.

The player I am most intrigued with is TeDarrell Slaton. Desperately need better play from D Line and he looks like he can be a solid rotational player.

So a Packer fan friend of mine threw this out amongst a circle of very diverse NFL fans. Packer fan,Giants fan,Steelers fan,Patriots fan,Jags fan,Bucs fan. Our reactions were split. Curious as what a majority of Packer Backers might think.

The Rogers situation ends up in a trade. This friend said he would be happy with this scenario:

Rogers to The Niners for Jimmy G. and a #2

What say you all?
