Greg Jennings (1 Viewer)

I didn't read what anyone else wrote. Rookie WR in a team that needs to pass; I don't think it is good. Ferguson will be the number two WR at the end of the day.
WOW......you must not follow the Packers and/or know nothing about the NFL.

I have a decision to make, I play in a league that has a very small bench, I am currently weak at #3 WR with Muhammad and D. Bennett, should i consider dropping one of these to aquire Jennings, I think Muhamm will get around 850 / 6td and who knows what Bennett will get now that Collins is at QB.

What do you guys think ?

reported yesterday:

Meanwhile, rookie Greg Jennings, Green Bay’s top receiver in the preseason, will start opposite Donald Driver, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said today.

(later in the article)

"Jennings finished the preseason with 12 receptions for 328 yards and long catches of 89 yards and 85 yards, easily beating out sixth-year pro Robert Ferguson for the starting job. Ferguson had one catch for 5 yards against Tennessee and finished the preseason with four receptions for 54 yards.

Jennings’ 328 receiving yards in the preseason were the third-most of any NFL player in the last seven years, behind the 400 yards gained by Randy Moss in 2000 and the 331 by Chicago rookie Mark Bradley last year.

"Clearly I've never seen a rookie that productive that fast," McCarthy said. "With that in mind, it was really not a reflection on Robert Ferguson at all. Robert, Donald and Greg all have excellent flexibility. Very rarely do you have three receivers who can play all three positions and are interchangeable."

I am most likely going to start Jennings in a league that starts 3 WRs. I think GB will play from behind in most games which means they will have to throw.

I've been trying to temper my enthusiasm about Jennings because rookie WRs -- especially rookie WRs in the WCO -- tend to struggle. But the more I watch him play the more impressed I become. He runs good routes, he has sure hands and he can make things happen after the catch. He is a legitimate player and given Ferguson's medicority his emergence has been one of the few bright spots for the team heading into the season. It was absolutely essential the Packers find a legitimate starter opposite Driver since Ferguson falls woefully short in that regard. Jennings, though, has all the tools to be a fine starting WR in the league. As far as this season goes, I would be hesitant to start him consistently as a WR3 but I'd view him currently as a strong WR4 option in leagues that start that many with WR3 potential. I actually think he has a chance to put together a productive game this week against the Bears. I would expect Chicago to slide its coverage toward Driver to try and take him out of the game plan which will leave Jennings with plenty of opportunities to make plays. Chicago obviously has a strong defense but I could see Jennings catching 3-4 passes for 50+ yards with an outside shot at a TD.

guy is going to be very good in the coming years... but there's just no way he puts up 60 catches + 900 yds + 6 or more TD's.

i'd be happy with 40 catches, 500 yds, 3-4 td's. his best years are ahead of him.

65-900-7td with ease
Wow those are pretty good stats for a rookie
I agree WHERE in the world is all this hype coming from... you all can't be from GB, or can you? A rookie, much less what has led us to believe any #2 WR in GB can put up good sized numbers in year one with GB, much less year 1 in the NFL.
Ya never know what can happen. Roy Williams went 54-817-8 in his rookie season, and that was with a bum ankle halfway through the season, and Joey Harrington throwing to him. Charles Rogers being out for the season did give him more opportunity, but he still wasn't in a terrific situation, and he still excelled mainly due to his talent.

Jennings has had the best pre season of any Rookie WR at GB since..... Sterling Sharpe.

He is the first starting WR for the packers since.... STerling Sharpe. The next most recent starting rookie WR for the pack? James Lofton

Jennings has shown a huge ability to turn catches into longer gains in the preseason

Having said that, I do not see Jennings catching more than 45-50 passes, quite possibly less.

as other commentors have pointed out

..terrible O line

..Lots of other options (Driver/Franks/Green) to suck up the catches

..Jennings is a rookie, who does not yet have the trust of Farve

Positives

.. Jennings gets the long balls = better chance for a TD - no one else is such a deep threat

.. Jennings has shown the ability in college and pre season to turn mid range catches into long catch/runs

I think it is quite possible for him to get less than 40 catches, but 6 TD. He could well be a boom/bust player - shut out some games, several long TD's other games.

And yes, I am a homer, and yes, he is on my three teams. But as a last pick in 12 team leagues? Tell me who has more upside at that draft spot.

Of course Sterling caught 55 passes as a rookie, but only 1 TD. It was not until his 2nd year (thats a shock) that he went 90/12.

Loftons rookie season was 46/6

Who would have thought Anquan Boldin would have 1300+/8 in his rookie year? Not saying Jennings will be anywhere near that, but a rookie doing well is not unheard of. I'd figure Jennings to go for about 750/5-6

I haven't added him to my roster

I currently have

Muhammid

Rod Smith

A. Bryant

I. Bruce

Don't know which one I should drop for Jennings - I'm thinking Bruce

Any opinions ??

No way I'd even consider dropping any of those WRs for Jennings. That would be a huge mistake in my opinion.

He's snatched up in our league, but unbelievably Favre was cut yesterday. With Driver/Jennings/Ferguson/Franks - Favre is #1 on my waiver wire radar next week..

Greg Jennings 45catches 632yds 3td'snot bad. especially with the injury that basically rendered him worthless for half the season.
