I just read that Greg Williams gets an extra 1mil if he doesnt take over as head coach after Gibbs retires. Why? Does anybody have a clue as to why they would put that in?
Because he would have been a hot candidate to take over as a head coach somewhere, and this gives him some assurance that he'll get to take over for Gibbs some day.

Because the 'skins have an owner with too much money. They wanted to keep Williams in a bad way and were willing to throw huge $ around to solve any issues that Williams had with staying. If the new CBA doesn't address the coaching salaries as part of the cap, then it's just a matter of time before we see a small market head coach being hired away to be a coordinator for a big money team. For example, what if Willams takes a head coaching job next off season. The Redskins need a new DC. They go to Jack Del Rio and offer him 3 million a year over 5 seasons. What does Wayne Weaver(Jags owner) do at that point? It's a good time to be an NFL coach.
