Grocery Store-What are you paying for food? (1 Viewer)

Sprouts and Green Beans dropped to $0.99 / lb this week. One will pair well with a pork tenderloin ($2.99 / lb) and the other chicken drums ($0.79 / lb) and thighs ($1.49 / lb) this week.

Publix-opoly
Amy's Mac n Cheese $4.99 x 2
Blake's Sheppard Pie $4.99 x 2
Fancy Chix Pot Pies $5.99 x 2

-Some days are a frozen food can't be bothered to cook or even mix up a salad, work out of the house and it takes 15 minutes minimum one way to find a place to eat

De Cecco - Bucatini $3 box
Rao's Sauce - Usually get it on sale but had to spend the $8+
Parmesan cheese/salt - $5

Total - $50 roughly and I don't have a lot of meals here

-Yeah we don't approach food the same way, I'm kinda jealous

Oh, man. If you're going to make mac-and-chee, gotta make your own, not store bought.

I make a 3 cheese Mac w/cayenne pepper dashed into the roux and it comes out amazing but it's a holiday treat...
You bring up a good idea, if I made it from scratch the Mrs would be very happy

But that Amy's mac n cheese is nice comfort food at home when you don't feel like making a mess
It's pricey, that's what I wanted to share. My 3-cheese isn't cheap, I use a sharp cheddar, gouda and gruyere blend, that's like $15-$20 worth of cheese and...oh I c ur point here
I'd have enough mac and cheese for 3 meals not just a single serving and could use it as a side dish for bigger more expansive meals and lengthen it out over the entire week

Bullseye! More cost for a better product is perfectly fine, it's the stretching it out over multiple meals that makes a difference. When my wife makes mac-and-chee, she doesn't cut corners either.

I just told the Mrs to be prepared for this weekend, I keep bitching how bad the local restaurant scene is, part of my complaints are that nobody cooks from scratch any more
I couldn't tell you where to go for a fresh carved turkey sandwich although i would imagine it exists somewhere but not around me
We've been wanting to do a whole turkey or lamb where we can tear it up almost like pot roast.
A pot roast with carrots and gravy sounds good

There is a very nice Greek/Mediterranean spot but lunch alone is $20 and you can add $10-$15 more on to for dinner...you can taste that they make things from scratch.
Their greek salad has no lettuce unless you request it, all chunks of cucumber, tomato, onions and whatnot

I LOVE avocados, but finally tapped out yesterday as they were 10.69 a bag at Costco. They can keep em.
We've been creeping towards a $1 per. I used to have a handful per week, but have scaled back to 2x per week with $0.89 give-or-take pricing. I suspect I'll turn very selective once it tips over that $1 edge, bye bye afternoon snack.

They fluctuate in price through the year. Haas are often near $1 per in the off season.

I've decided not to eat anymore. That should save me a few bucks.
No deer hunting?
I’m not a hunter but I might need to be. Have a bunch of deer on my property. I can certainly catch fish though if necessary.
I'm going to build a house on your property and be your neighbor. Sound good? It's been many years but I know how to unalive Bambi.
Mr. Rogers? Except he is from Pittsburgh.

Costco has been gradually creeping up from the 4.69 bag. They’ve been like 9.69 or 9.79 here for a few months now. I told myself if they hit the 10+ a bag that I’m out, which stinks because I usually eat 2 a day, so will need to get those macros somewhere else. Hopefully more people do the same and they have to drop the cost. I did notice a lot of brown bags which is usually never the case there.

Who, me? I'm originally a KC guy.

Since I usually throw half my six pack of avocados away, the jump in price has stopped all purchases.

Congratulations avocado, you played yourself.

That is why I said "except". Was cueing on the neighbor part.

Headed out KC way here in about a month. Will miss being able to grab beers and beef with you, sir. Nothing for me on the Sconny horizon, yet.

Just got the Easter weekend ad from my local market. Large Hass avocados 5 for $2 had me jumping for joy. Corn cob bacon 6 pounds for $19.99 not shabby either and local sweet corn $2 per dozen. Load the hump!

When I would visit my sister in the USVI, they weren’t even available. St John

Wow, I guess that's a benefit of living close to the border. I normally wait for the sales i.e. 75 cents for the large Haas. The mediums are usually $1 if not on sale.

I’ll now wait til our friends from Florida come up as they will usually bring us a couple dozen from their trees.

Pasture raised (non organic) eggs $9 at whole foods, were < $5 not all that long ago, the $5 eggs were the whole foods brand and that is no longer offered and now only have the $9 option.

Never do this. Chop em up before they get bad, pack in a freezer bag and add the frozen avo chunks to a smoothie (i actually do this with all fruit). It will give an otherwise boring fruit smoothie an ice cream texture and actually tastes fantastic.

Such a fine line. It’s hard to know when they’ve gone from perfect to browntown.
