Grocery Store-What are you paying for food? (2 Viewers)

Can't believe some of y'all are buying Folgers and Maxwell House.
I usually go with the the store brand unless these are on sale.
Krogers store brand is awful imo. I tried it once when the 25 oz jug was on sale for $5.99 and :yucky:
Once you add the coconut milk, it all tastes the same.

Not for me. I add coconut milk, mct oil, and protein powder to my morning coffee and still 🗑️

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to at least 1.7 million eggs, according to a news release issued on Saturday. The brown cage-free and brown certified organic eggs were distributed by the August Egg Company from Feb. 3 through May 15 to retailers in nine states — California, Nevada, Washington, Arizona, Nebraska, New Mexico, Illinois, Indiana and Wyoming, per the FDA. In an announcement issued Friday, the Hilmar, California-based distribution company recalled 1.7 million eggs, which have sell-by dates ranging from March 4 to June 19 and were sold at retailers including Walmart and Safeway, as well as under many different brands that can be seen here. So far, the outbreak has sickened 79 people in New Jersey, Kentucky, Nebraska, Nevada, Arizona, Washington state and California, the CDC said. At least 21 people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.

I drink maybe 3/4 cup daily (due to blood pressure concerns) so it makes sense for me to buy Folgers or Maxwell House half caff when they're on sale. They're cheaper than the store brand half caff. I'm not after a taste experience. I'm after a jolt of caffeine.

Just what we need...another excuse for price gouging.

Why do you hate coffee? Adding all that stuff to it.

Figured I am at risk of tariff inflation on my coffee routine as have been heavy into the Kirkland coldbrew cans, but trying to cut back on cans in general due to BPAs. So just get some local whole beans and grind them/make my own cold brew.

Right? Just stick to the baileys.

Health reasons 💪. When I'm having an afternoon cup it's straight black with the occasional dash of cinnamon.

Coffee related to the Maxwell House Folgers commentary...

I was shopping at Costco yesterday, and passed by this 5lb bag of Arabica grounds, labeled as Pleasant Hills Farms by the San Francisco Bay coffee company.

Reviews look alright. Anybody try it?

I usually get the 3lb SF Bay french roast whole beans.

I passed on it an grabbed my Peet's 2lb Major Dickason's dark roast whole beans instead.

Still have some Costco Lavazza beans to get through as I didn't care for them.

If you drink that little than cost should have zero impact on your decision. Buy the best and enjoy

I'm not the only coffee drinker in the household. My wife drinks a lot of it, so it's a consistent savings for us.
"Hey hon, let's stop spending $9.99 and start spending $21.99 instead so I can impress this guy called @the moops".

I would think your wife maybe would enjoy a good cup of coffee rather than the garbage you are feeding her :hophead:

All coffee is garbage may as well make it cheap.

Steven A Smith level hot take :fishing:

Well the Amish have caught on. At the local farmers market on Saturday morning-

3 cucumbers
2 tomatoes (so good it’s hard to believe for this time of year)
1 small bunch asparagus

$15

Went shopping this morning and the shelves were really really bare. Every store i went to had a sign stating a distributor outage. Got home and did a search for what's up and i see there was a cyber attack at United Natural Foods Inc which is a major food distributor. Looks like it was a few days ago, but this is the first I've heard of it. Disruptions to the supply chain certainly aren't going to help bring prices down.

I love that Capt. D's. Got a couple bags last week on sale for about $6.50/lb.
I'm also a big fan on Ruta Maya, shade grown, organic dark roast. It can be hard to find in the NE Costco's, but I can order five lb bags through their website for a reasonable price.

Not entirely related, but we’re in St Thomas, and holy **** are groceries expensive. I get the whole “ship everything in” angle, but I was expecting maybe a 15-20% bump. A lot of items are 2-300% higher.

We’re going for spring break next year, still haven’t figured out how we’re handling food (assume a mix of cooking at our rental and going out) but good to know I should budget 2-3x for groceries

Curious what US city you're comparing this to

North Georgia.

To be fair, we went to a different grocery store today, and the prices on some things were way more in line with what we are used to. The first store was on the recommendation of our Airbnb host, the second store was where the locals shop, so it looks like we got hit with tourist prices.

Some things were still pretty high, but the margins we saw at the first store were definitely inflated.

@Dan Lambskin - go to The Market at Tutu Park Mall, not Fresh Market in Red Hook.

My sister lived on St. John for 30 years. It’s always been that way. Rum is cheaper than water.
