Hamilton - Broadway musical streaming (1 Viewer)

I heard reports that a couple of original-cast performances were recorded, and that after they make a few more billion dollars touring, they might show up on Great Performances or some such.

Might be my best shot.

Going this Saturday night with my wife - she's taking me to NYC on her business trip and it will be my first visit to New York ever. So psyched to get to see this.

I listened to a bunch of this. I don't get the hype.
I've listened to some and seen some videos- I also am not getting the "best ever" hype. but it's pretty consistent and from people who've actually seen it whose opinions I trust. so...  ... if I don't have to choose between paying the rent or feeding the kids and 2 tickets to a show, I'd like to see it.
Teach the kids to fast. #goseeit

Went last night, comp tickets from my CEO (thank you gift.) Worst seats in the house, literally - middle of Row G - last row - in the upper right mezzanine. $1100 for 2.

Mostly new cast from the last time I saw it (April, 2016), Donald Webber, Jr. was an understudy for seemingly every male role and is the 4th A. Ham.

Still fantastic. I've seen every Tony Award winner from the last 25 years. Best musical ever.

Or spend $10. One Hamilton = one ticket through the lottery.

https://lottery.broadwaydirect.com/faq/

The Mezz seats I got were $200ea. Finally going in a couple weeks after buying them nearly a year ago. I've never been to a Broadway show and musicals are not really my thing, but my girls are super-pumped, so Im excited for them. I'm also really looking forward to the pizza place my brother recommended after the show.  :bag:

Weird that the most monarchical, industry-based founder would appeal to the women so consistently.

Oh wait, it's not weird.

you are absolutely spot on with that- only way I can do this. cool boss- check. cool boss that would shell out over a grand to give me tickets to a show? uncheck. my mom's been wanting to get us tickets to this since it opened... but can't justify (nor would I ever want her to) spending that kind of money on a show. she's seeing it in SF- 4 orchestra seats each for about 200. the way it should be (and still pricey, IMO).

I've had that lotter info for years, but I never ever remember to do it. plugging into my phone now for an every day reminder.

also realizing/remembering that it's $10 just to "buy" the lottery ticket for the opportunity to officially buy 2 tickets that night if you win. this will obviously start to add up if I don't win. and if I do- any idea how much the official tickets cost? are they what you quoted and what I've seen?... if so, I'm just getting a chance to spend an extra $10 to spend more than I can afford to see a fantastic show? (and American Express always opens up batches of tickets for purchase- so the tickets are there if I want).

if that's the case, I reiterate the #### that comment.

you get the tickets through standard ticketing agency/box-office?

Yeah the $1100 my boss spent was last minute resale through Ticketmaster (with $31 ticket insurance  :lmao:  - absolutely the least efficient way to score Hamilton tickets.) These were replacements to two $700 tickets - much closer & in the center IIRC - which I couldn't use because of a scheduling conflict.

Also, didn't realize $10 was for the lottery ticket. The only time I did the lottery was to take my daughter to Matilda. For that one, you walked up 15-20 minutes before the noon drawing, and if you won, you got to buy two tickets at roughly half off. And it was like a 1/3 chance to win, we snagged them on the second attempt.

I imagine the A.Ham lottery is bonkers.

I couldn't find in there if the hamilton lottery tickets were at any discount or full price. discount would be worth trying somewhat regularly... otherwise- #### that.

[WASHINGTON]
Ladies and gentlemen, you coulda been anywhere in the world tonight, but you’re here with us in New York City. Are you ready for a cabinet meeting???

The issue on the table: Secretary Hamilton’s plan to assume state debt and establish a national bank. Secretary Jefferson, you have the floor, sir

[JEFFERSON]
‘Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.’
We fought for these ideals; we shouldn’t settle for less
These are wise words, enterprising men quote ‘em
Don’t act surprised, you guys, cuz I wrote ‘em

[JEFFERSON/MADISON]
Oww

[JEFFERSON]
But Hamilton forgets
His plan would have the government assume state’s debts
Now, place your bets as to who that benefits:
The very seat of government where Hamilton sits

[HAMILTON]
Not true!

[JEFFERSON]
Ooh, if the shoe fits, wear it
If New York’s in debt—
Why should Virginia bear it? Uh! Our debts are paid, I’m afraid
Don’t tax the South cuz we got it made in the shade
In Virginia, we plant seeds in the ground
We create. You just wanna move our money around
This financial plan is an outrageous demand
And it’s too many damn pages for any man to understand
Stand with me in the land of the free
And pray to God we never see Hamilton’s candidacy
Look, when Britain taxed our tea, we got frisky
Imagine what gon’ happen when you try to tax our whisky

[CROWD (reacting)]

[WASHINGTON]
Thank you, Secretary Jefferson

Secretary Hamilton, your response

[HAMILTON]
Thomas. That was a real nice declaration
Welcome to the present, we’re running a real nation
Would you like to join us, or stay mellow
Doin’ whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello?
If we assume the debts, the union gets
A new line of credit, a financial diuretic
How do you not get it? If we’re aggressive and competitive
The union gets a boost. You’d rather give it a sedative?
A civics lesson from a slaver. Hey neighbor
Your debts are paid cuz you don’t pay for labor
“We plant seeds in the South. We create.”
Yeah, keep ranting
We know who’s really doing the planting
And another thing, Mr. Age of Enlightenment
Don’t lecture me about the war, you didn’t fight in it
You think I’m frightened of you, man?
We almost died in the trench
While you were off getting high with the French
Thomas Jefferson, always hesitant with the President
Reticent—there isn’t a plan he doesn’t jettison
Madison, you’re mad as a hatter, son, take your medicine
Damn, you’re in worse shape than the national debt is in
Sittin’ there useless as two ####s
Hey, turn around, bend over, I’ll show you
Where my shoe fits

Gentlemen...the Hamilton lottery entry is free, and then you pay $10 for the tickets if you win.

My wife and kids are constantly playing these disks and singing the songs. Nearly took a second mortgage to get balcony seats in Chicago ... in November.

It's so awful. Fallon is pretty annoying. Sad too because the King George might be the best part of the whole show.
It's like he's doing a bad, very careful karaoke of the original actor's bit.  Not confident enough to try and do something different with it.

My wife and daughter went to see the show in NY on Saturday.  They took a train down.  They both loved it.  it was a combination graduation and 18th birthday gift for daughter.

Most expensive tickets I have ever seen for an event.  I almost thought my wife was joking when she told me.

It was actually a burger, not pizza, and it was at The Corner Bistro in Greenwich Village. Burger was awesome and Hamilton certainly lived up to the hype. That city though. 24 hours was all I could take. No idea how people live every day like that.
I love Corner Bistro... Good, cheap, neighborhoody, open late.

Their grill cheese and bacon

Nowhere near Broadway shows though.

bam. calendar reminder set every day.

thanks!
We've entered the lottery for Chicago every single day for several months. Its worth doing, as we know several people who got tickets via the daily lottery, but we've had no luck so far so just bit the bullet and jacked open the wallet.

my wallet is bolted shut for this kind of thing (tickets for last row at the very back of the upper mezzanine start at $450... #### that). might take the kids to charlie and the chocolate factory (tickets $69-200, as they should be) and just have the kids squint and pretend the fat kid is rapping.

fwiw- new girl in the office's dad waited in line at the box-office for day-of open seats. says most of the people got there around sunrise (6ish)- he got there at 8 and got the last available ticket when they opened the box-office at 11:30. they seemed to think they got the tickets that would've gone to the lottery, but the lottery winners just didn't pick them up. all the available seats were in the same row- producers' seats... perfect, 4 rows off the stage.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has teamed up with Prizeo once again. The prize on the line? Two VIP tickets to the opening night of Hamilton Los Angeles, two tickets to the after party, a photo and meet and greet with Miranda, and round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations

Alexa has been playing the soundtrack all week.  Taking the Smails clan to a great dinner and then to see the Hamilton touring production at the Pantages tonight.  Got 'em at face value with 5 devices trying to get in the queue at the same time and finally got through and secured tix.  Really looking forward to it!

How was it?

Bought tix for July - did the Verified Fan Lottery thing.  $250 per.  I think Cats was the last musical I saw on Broadway

The family sitting in front of us last week said its still cheaper for a family of 4 to fly to Chicago from NYC and stay downtown for two nights than it is to see it in NY.  They said cheap seats on Broadway are $1,000 and orchestra starts at $2,000.  I think we paid about $350 per ticket for decent balcony seats at the CIBC theater in Chicago, although we booked them about 5 months ago.  Great show, well worth it.

That's not true in regards to prices.

Cheap seats are in the 400s in advance (list price) and orchestra in the 800s. My BIL just went last weekend, buying tickets less than a week ahead of time for low 600s on StubHub. Not cheap, but not starting at a grand per.

my 5th grade son just finished a report on "is it worth it to pay those prices for Hamilton"- we haven't seen it yet, but even my super cheap and not terribly cultured BIL said he'd do it again.

Just got four tickets for our family trip in June.  $1700 total which is kind of crazy, but this will be the highlight of our trip, and my wife and daughter are really looking forward to it.

#LookAtMe Wife and I went last weekend and were lucky enough to sit in these seats at $229 per. We are friendly with the original conductor and I guess he has two of these seats in perpetuity, even though he has long left the show. Great time.

Man, I thought the prices would come way down when the original cast left. We paid about 700 per to see most of the original cast last June. (2016, that is)

Paid face value (180ish I think) to see it in Chicago this past summer.

Both were totally worth it.

still pissed we didn't see it when friends invited us to go to see it at The Public, before it hit broadway.

also pissed I didn't see Once at new york theater workshop, after loving the movie and walking by it nightly on my way home from work, thinking- this is a no-brainer.
