"Hannibal" the TV show (1 Viewer)

What a phenomenal finale. Easily the best drama on TV. The dialog between characters is unbelievably well written. I can't say enough good things about the finale, or the show as a whole, and cannot wait for next season.

There is one thing that bothered me about the finale though. What took the cops/ambulance so freaking long to get to Hannibal's house? There were two separate 911 calls (Alana when she first arrived and then Will when he found her by the front door). I'm guessing the two calls were about 5-7 minutes apart. Then, after Will's call, there was probably another 7-10 minutes before Hannibal disappears down the street with emergency lights in the background. Clearly Hannibal lives in town. Are we led to believe that when you receive two emergency calls about a residence minutes apart that there isn't one unit that can be there within 10 minutes of the first call?

Maybe it's just me rooting for Will. I know that the finale could only end one way. Doesn't change the fact that when I watch movies I've seen 100 times, I sometimes hope that the good guy wins just this one time. That the story would miraculously change.
 Thought the same thing. Where are they, Mayberry?
I thought about that, too. Wasn't overly troubled by it, though. The whole sequence was shot in a dreamy, cloudy style, things seemed like they were moving in slow-motion. Plausible that it all took place in only 3-4 minutes of real time.

Also ...

did Alana complete call to 911? I remember her pulling out her phone I think but I'm not sure she completed a call, or who she called.
Not sure. Will have to rewatch to be sure. I think I could watch that one a few times.

Yeah, she completed the call. She reported that she heard gunshots.

Huh. Thanks. Does seem like things went on a bit after that, even if the scene isn't in real time a number of things happened between Alana's fall and Hannibal's departure.

I am half way through season 2. This is the best series I have seen so far on non-cable TV imo. I have actually found this season easier to follow then the first season.

Exactly. No need to hire the same actor now that the character has a different voice, face, and is confined to a wheelchair and has his head either bandaged completely or looking like a burn victim from here on out.
Especially if the "rumors" are true that Pitt was difficult to work with.

Considering those rumors have come from pretty much every project he's worked on, I tend to believe it.

Yep, that's why I quoted rumors. Seems he's odd and difficult.

Just binged the first two seasons on Prime, really fun show. As season 2 went on though, it was harder and harder to believe that everyone basically 'knew' about Hannibal and just went along for the ride. Whether they could prove anything or not, it seems somewhere along the way they would have arrested him anyway to get him in the public light or outright killed him for the greater good or simple vengeance (Will). The kitchen gun to the head scene seems like it should have ended with a dead Hannibal, as Will looked ready to go to prison for life just to kill him while locked up.

Im glad Hannibal will be out in the open in Season 3 (to main characters at least), and we won’t have to dance around increasingly ridiculous reasons why everyone plays along with his persona of normal guy.

Are you really questioning why they didn't kill the title character?

Yes?

I finished season 2 a couple days ago. While it's up and down and you have to suspend a lot of disbelief, the discussions with Hannibal and the way he manipulates everyone is brilliantly written.

Just shy of great because they have to tweak the actions of the characters to make it fit the story too much, but still a very good show.

Probably why he's so great in these roles.

How this gets low ratings and was near cancellation is beyond me.
This show can definitely get tedious at times. If a first-time viewer tunes in at just the wrong time, they probably aren't coming back.
I binge watched the first two seasons but it put me to asleep every night so it took me a couple of weeks to finish. You really have to watch the entire thing or there won't be much of a payoff when something major happens.

Show lost me.. loved the first season, and most of last year.... but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't stay awake watching the first 3 episodes of this season.. just seemed to be an over indulgence of .. oh look at the images and sound effects I can do.. not to mention the continuation of last seasons.. is he awake or dreaming this?

:bye:

Disappoint...

Hopefully Netflix takes a stab at this. I read NBC was only paying $185k for licensing for each episode. Thats affordable for at least Netflix or Amazon.

Most likely pickup now is from Amazon, which has the rights to the first three seasons. It's unlikely Netflix would pick it up if they didn't also get seasons 1-3 as part of the deal to make a season 4.

Bryan Fuller is not signed for a 4th season, he has a show on Starz about to start up. So he's not part of the picture, or, doesn't have to be.

Also, the production company does not have the rights to make the "Silence of the Lambs" storyline that season 4 would encompass. They only have the rights to the characters through "Red Dragon", which is this season. So any pickup would probably have to involve paying for those rights as well. Presumably, however, Thomas Harris won't be able to ask as much for SotL now that a big-name network isn't involved. If he was holding out hoping that NBC would bring the money truck to his door, that plan is shot.
He had (hopefully has) every intention to do a season 4 and did not need SotL to do it.

So if you get the rights, there is an existing season 4 plan, and then you would ideally shift into that story.

Yes. Right now, we wouldn’t need Silence of the Lambs for season 4 and the direction that we’re heading.
