WR Percy Harvin Leaves Practice With Unknown Injury

Saturday, July 31, 2010 - 2:33pm

Minneapolis Star-Tribune - [Full Article]

Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin Percy Harvin Fantasy News left the field Saturday on a cart after suffering an unknown injury during the Vikings' morning practice.

Harvin, the NFL's offensive rookie of the year last season, suffered a shoulder injury in 2009 but did not miss a game because of that problem. Harvin did miss several practices and one game because of migraine headaches.

The odd thing about what happened to Harvin on Saturday is no one saw him suffer an obvious injury. He did make what was perhaps the catch of the day in 7-on-7 drills when he bobbled a pass from Tarvaris Jackson Tarvaris Jackson Fantasy News but managed to catch the ball despite tight coverage from cornerback Asher Allen. Harvin's helmet popped off on the play as he made the catch, fell to the ground and then got up and tried to run.

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said in his post-practice news conference that he didn't even know Harvin had left on a cart until told by a member of the media relations staff. Coach Brad Childress was not scheduled to speak to reporters after the practice.

If he is actually injurred bad enough, and Rice is still iffy...does that one QB even come back?

Hope all is well for Harvin though...was definitely targeting him with the uncertainty with Rice.

2 things. The first is that Harvin being injured doesn't really move anyone up the ladder, they don't have anyone that can step into his role on the team. That said, at some point Bernard berrian has to start looking like a good option later in drafts. I said it earlier this summer that he has hit the top32 in 2006-2008 playing on 2 different teams and made it as high as #18 in 2008. He had a bad year last year but a lot of WRs have off years in their careers unless they are HoF types and Berrian is certainly not along those lines.

His APP is #166 off the board which is early to mid teens, seems like a bargain for a guy that can stretch the field. In best ball he certainly is worth the gamble.

Hoping he's ok.

On a selfish note, I'm in a keeper league that rewards offensive players for return yardage. Harvin was a monster for me last year. Today is our cut deadline, and he was the last player I was keeping (cutting Antonio Gates). Timing really stinks for me making that decision. Ugh.

Seeing that a local sports guy said Harvin fine later and was riding his bike and signing autographs. That's encouraging.

Per Shefter:

For what it's worth, being told that Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin is "fine" and his unspecified injury is not considered serious.

MANKATO -- Percy Harvin just walked past reporters and onto the practice field for tonight's session at Minnesota State, Mankato. It appears as if he will take part.

In fact, Harvin was among the players fielding punts just beofre the night session got underway.

That's good news for the Vikings after the wide receiver was taken from the field on a cart during the morning session. We still don't know exactly what was wrong with Harvin but if it was anything of concern there is no way the team would have him in uniform this evening.

The Vikings, by the way, are wearing shoulder pads and shorts just as they did in the first practice today.

Also, middle linebacker E.J. Henderson, who is returning from a broken left femur, will not take part in tonight's practice. That is not a surprise given the Vikings do not want to rush him and probably will give him the second part of a few two-a-day practices off during training camp.

Mystery solved: Harvin 'tweaked' his ankle

MANKATO -- We spent much of the day trying to find out why Percy Harvin was taken to the Vikings locker room this morning on a cart. He hadn't suffered any obvious injury and it became clear as the day wore on that the injury was nothing serious. But what was it?

We got the opportunity to go straight to the source after the Vikings' evening practice Saturday before a capacity crowd of about 7,000 at Blakeslee Stadium. Harvin said that he "tweaked" his ankle and that immediately swelling was an issue. However, once the Vikings athletic trainers got the swelling to go down, Harvin was able to participate in the second session.

"I'll continue to follow the program, the rehab, but I feel fine," Harvin said. "I'll be all right."

Coach Brad Childress said the type of injury Harvin suffered is just part of training camp. Childress also said that running back Adrian Peterson "tightened up a little bit" but he would be fine as well. Peterson did little to no work in 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills in today's two practices and I thought it might have been because the Vikings need to get a look at Toby Gerhart, Albert Young, Darius Reynaud, Ryan Moats, and Ian Johnson.

However, it sounds like the Vikings wanted to be careful with Peterson as well.
