Has the Waiver Wire Darling for 2012 Been Found Yet? (1 Viewer)

I'm still of the opinion that Morris doesn't count because you should have had someone in your league with him rostered before kickoff week 1.

I think Jennings could be it if MJD is out for an extended period.
I would agree with this - some if it depends on when your draft is - ours was the night before the season started - so both Morris and Cobb were rostered. I think the waiver has to come from in-season pickups.

I would be willing to bet Cobb was more drafted than Morris. Our draft was 2 weeks before the season, Cobb was drafted, Morris was not.

Does that many of the breakout stars picked up during the season have to be viewed as an effect of the internet/twitter impact on fantasy sports? It's hard to not have one on your team when literally everyone is talking about these late round picks.

Morris is not a waiver wire darling. Maybe for casual players, but not for anyone who did a lick of research prior to opening kickoff. I don't get what's so hard to understand about this.

Jennings was drafted in many leagues ONLY because of the uncertainty surrounding MJD's contract issues. In my league he was not dropped, but I'm sure he was dropped in many other leagues, so I would definitely consider him a waiver wire darling. Only thing is, he's only considered one due to injury, and could easily be back in his old position come playoff time if MJD returns.

If I had to choose one, I would go with Josh Gordon from the Browns.
I love this tack... always amusing. Just because you're aware of a player doesn't mean you have room for him on your roster. In my $300 buy in 16 team league jennings was rostered as was cobb.

In my $250 buy-in 12 team league Jennings was not rostered because we only drafted 15 roster slots. There were better options at the time. In that league, Jennings was just a great FA pickup for me this week.

Player knowledge level doesn't dictate who's on the wire or not... generally it's league/roster size.
15 position auction keeper league here with limited F/A moves- 3 per owner for the season. Draft was 2 weeks prior to week 1. Morris was a post week 1 waiver wire pick up.

But that is the problem. When McFadden gets back he is back to the bench. It was even said today by Reece himself according to Evan Silva.

Probably Marcel Reece if he keeps it up down the stretch.
The key word is WHEN here. They said the same thing about McFadden last year and when did he return?Murray owners kept hearing when? Next week too and where are they now 6-7 weeks later?

It'll be Alexander.
It's gotta be.Unless McFadden doesnt come back for the rest of the year... the Reece will be a monster and it's close. but the guys being mentioned like Alfred Morris Randall Cobb ETC were all at least on the radar before the regular season started

OK, last time - it is NOT Morris! Morris was drafted in every league I am in. If your draft was >2 weeks before the start of the season, or you draft with guppies, then you can say Morris. Even then he should have been picked up before the season started, since he was named the starting RB!!

Alexander, Cobb, and Shorts so far in our league. Just picked up Garcon, who was probably dropped in plenty of leagues and would think he has a chance to keep up with those listed. I got lucky and got Cobb after the week 1 performance (only to drop him after week 2).

What a crapper that is.

As the OP, I would like to throw Denario Alexander and Cecil Shorts into the discussion.
:goodposting: These are the true waiver wire options.
Nonsense. They were both drafted in my league. I suppose you should join a more competitive league next year, because real sharks knew about these guys and drafted them before the guppies could throw in a ww claim. They shouldn't have been available in any league with owners who were paying attention.:mockingcrappyantiMorrisshticktakingplaceinthisthread:

I have a hard time seeing Shorts, Alexander or really any WR on this list.

Are they really scoring - or can be expected to score - that many more points than other WR options out there?

Unless it's a WR that is just blowing away the pack, I can only see a QB/RB/TE being in this mix - positions that have much more scarcity in finding production.

In the past, guys that have seemed to fit this mold are Cam Newton, Vick, Tamme, Foster (when he first blew up), and the like.

Haven't really seen a huge difference maker this year as of yet.

In no particular order, it's shaping up to be...

Shorts

Alexander

Reece

maybe Kaepernick

Not sure what more Shorts can do other than average about twelve points a game in standard scoring since the bye week. That's huge for deep leagues.

If we go by players who weren't in the top-200 ADP, then it's gotta be between Brian Hartline and Danario Alexander.

Cecil Shorts and Danario Alexander are looking like the two guys. Marcel Reece would be a good pick as well, but I doubt he will have that kind of value come 2 weeks or so.

I'm not sure I'd go with Hartline. If you are relying on him, he's as likely to hurt your team as help you. upside of his one monster game, he's only averaging about 10 points a game in ppr. Obviously that one game was awesome, but I doubt he was even starting for many teams at that point.

At this point I still go with Morris.. :)

If Kaepernick keeps the starting gig an plays like his

first start he may have consideration going forward here.

We drafted the weekend before labor day and Morris was not drafted. He was named the starter kinda sorta right after that. At that time Royster was considered the starter so in my ultra competitive league, a league where 90 percent of the people listed on the weekly waiver wire thread are already rostered, he was indeed a waiver wire pick up.

He wasn't named the starting RB for game 1 by the Redskins until the day of the first game. Royster was also #1 on the depth chart.

I think they are a little late in the season to have helped most teams get into the playoffs. Most playoffs start in week 13.

Don't be silly. He was drafted in the vast majority of 12 team leagues. What makes that shtick? On topic, I'm not sure Alexander's two games qualify him as a waiver wire gem.

All the guys mentioned in here, I drafted every freaking one of them They weren't on the wire in our Shark league. I wish you guys were in our league. We would eat you until all gone. Guppies!!!!!11

In my mind, a lot depends on scoring system. In one of my leagues(TE premium/PPR) it's probably going to wind up being Brandon Myers.

In my more standard scoring systems Shorts is probably the leader in the clubhouse currently, but if Alexander keeps scoring TDs he could give him a run. One of the Denver backs probably has a good shot to take home the title too with that remaining schedule, with Hillman being the most likely.

This year has been slim pickings compared to last year.

Cobb doesn't count for this, if he wasn't drafted in any of your 10 or 12 team leagues with 16 or more roster spots you play with morons.

Morris might count if your league drafted early and doesn't allow pick ups until after week 1. For the record those leagues are lame.

So we are left with about 3 or 4 guys

Reese - Depends on when DMC comes back

Shorts - Gets my vote, he was totally off the radar and if Henne has a rebirth at quarterback he could be a high end wr2 for the rest of the year

Hartline - Has had a few very good weeks and some bad ones, he is only in the discussion because they other guys have an incomplete right now

Andre Roberts - Been slumping of late but was playing very well

I will say this year is disappointing compared to last year for waiver wire darlings, last year you had Victor Cruz, Dem. Thomas, Darren Sproles, Cam Newton, Demarco Murray for a short period, C.J. Spiller (many owners had given up on him by this time last year then Jackson got hurt and he delivered) Nate Washington, Laurent Robinson, Torrey Smith, and Fred Davis

Alfred Morris
I'm sticking with Morris as well. Even that "31% owned in Yahoo" article that another poster referenced was dated Sept. 12th which followed his week 1 breakout... cat was well out of the bag by then.I don't go crazy - only in 3 leagues - but he wasn't drafted in any of them. Even the Redskins homer in my oldest league missed him.
No question about Morris. And there isn't even a close second.
N/a only on waivers in 8 team leagues.

BTW, Morris was added by 30% of MFL leagues in Week 1 and 53% of leagues in Week 2.

Cobb was added by 27.6% of MFL leagues in Week 2 and 2.3% of leagues in Week 3.

Hartline was added by 30.7% of MFL leagues in Week 3, 7.5% of leagues in Week 4, and 51.7% in Week 5.,

I am just mad because I dropped DA in 2 leagues after he was cut by the Rams. Had been holding him since his rookie year. Managed to pick him up in one other league, but could not get him back in the 2 I already owned him in. Luckily I picked up Shorts in one of those leagues in week 1, so that helped to defray the loss of Alexander. :) Yes, in most dynasty leagues of decent roster sizes both were indeed already rostered coming into the season. It is just whether someone held onto them or not.
