Has the WW player of the year been discovered yet? (1 Viewer)

Guys that make comments like "he should have been drafted in all competitive leagues".....are basing that off of what? your leagues???If he was drafted, I would guess it was very late. Moreover, in leagues where he was drafted - take a look at players that went either right before or right after Cam...I am willing to bet that most of those guys are on your "competitive" leagues waiver wire now.
I am in a 10 person league with 20-man rosters, and everyone is VERY knowledgeable fantasy-wise. No one drafted Newton - usually rookie QBs aren't.

Guess none of my 4 leagues are actually competitive cause he wasn't drafted in any of them.
:goodposting:
Huh? Raidergil goes on to write that "Woods et al projections that had Newton 19-24." That brings Newton solidly in the QB2 range in standard team leagues. He should have been drafted as a QB2 and in most leagues he was. I guess Raidergil is correct. He isn't in any competitive leagues (if in fact he is in a standard 12 team league). 8 team leagues, which are rare, I could understand Newton not being drafted but in std. 12 team leagues he should have based on his skill set, opportunity, and pre-season rankings and ADP. So far, Decker gets my vote as sleeper of the year. It's still early and a lot of players have the chance to be the ww player of the year.
Not to distract from the entire thread, but in leagues with flex rosters some owners won't draft a backup QB & will grab someone off wire. There were also a number of established QBs ranked in same area or just below Newton (McNabb, Fitzpatrick, Cassell) whom owners may have felt more comfortable with. If I draft a guy like Rodgers, Rivers, Brady I'm only looking for the QB with best bye week matchup. Perhaps that's shortsighted, but I don't plan on playing my backup except during starter's bye.Plus, there were experts everywhere questioning Newton's ability. Heck, Steve Smith wasn't even ranked in top 30 WR. In my leagues, Newton is pick up of the year, by league draft percentages I would guess then it's Decker.

I don't think we've seen this years WW stud yet. Of the ones mentioned above so far I'd go with Hunter, Ridley or Scott in that order. Hunter has looked good when given the chance and Gore looks like he's breaking down. Ridley is an interesting option. He carried 6 times for 42 yards last week and they weren't garbage time "lets get the rookie some time" carries. It wouldn't shock me at all to see him jump past the Law Firm. Scott is a long shot for two reasons. One, he needs to get an opportunity and Ced Ben has appealed his suspension. Goodell may trim the suspension or let Ced off Scott free (pun intended ;) ). Two, even if Ced's suspension sticks Scott has to be off the charts to take the job from Ced. Cincy is very commited to running Ced every opportunity they get and I just don't see them taking the job from him and giving it to Scott. Not sold on Moore. I know Ford doesn't play the same WR position but he's going to take catches away from Moore (and that's even IF Moore plays ahead of Heyward-Bey).. Add in that we're talking Jason Campbell as QB and Moore doesn't look a break out player to me. Oak is for the most part going to rely on McFadden and Bush for offense.
Yeah, I kind of wonder if this might be right. The breakout has yet to happen.Might be Ridley, could be Decker, and yes I think Cam qualifies since at least according to CBS he was owned in only 50% of all leagues [started in 2%] in Week 1.Larry Johnson did not become available as a real starter until midseason of whatever year it was he went nuts for KC.Vick was dropped in a lot of leagues last year or didn't really explode until he cam back from his injury. So maybe the book has not yet been written, I'm guessing a player yet to be named or named frequently will still emerge.

We could have more than one WW player of the year in 2011. Cam Newton and Eric Decker are the leading candidates. We all know about Cam. But here is a great write up by Matt Waldman of Football Guys on Eric Decker and his ball skillz. Notice the article was written back in July of 2011. Fast foward 6 months later and it's amazing to see Waldman's summary transform onto the field, performed by Decker.

http://mattwaldmanrsp.com/2011/07/03/emerging-nfl-talents-wr-eric-decker/

The WR and RB WW players of the year have YET to show up. Newton is the QB but man, could this be the first year where a Waiver Wire Rb or WR don't help teams to FF titles?

Who's even left?

Newton :pickle:

Moore

Jordy Nelson :excited:

Decker

Cruz :bag:

Tebow :coffee:

Heyward-Bey

Torain :hot:

Battle :boxing:

Palmer :hey:

Cam is the front runner and Sproles is up there with him. Haven't seen enough Murray yet. If Torain holds up he should surprise.

Sproles was selected in the draft of every league I participate in. I think Newton is the pick even if Murray continues to excel because he certainly won't be putting up 200+ yards every game.

DeMarco Murray
Murrey may just be that guy, but help me if there are others...Ridley - BJGE a little banged up, could have turf toe, admitted playing hurt... Ridley was the feature back on the first drive, giving way to fellow rookie Shane Vereen on just one snap. From the second quarter on, though, Ridley was limited to kickoff returns with BenJarvus Green-Ellis taking over as the lead back.

Tanner - Jones & Choice a little banged up, Murrey ahead of him, but 1 or 2 fumbles or injury... Coach Jason Garrett was pleased with Phillip Tanner's performance in garbage time against the Rams last week. "He did a real nice job," Garrett said. "You guys have heard me talk about guys taking advantage of the opportunities they get and Phillip has done that since Day One. ... We handed him the ball six times yesterday and he was productive with that." With Tashard Choice (shoulder) banged up, Tanner could move up to No. 2 on the depth chart for this week's game against the Eagles.

Hunter - Gore playing well, but he has already surpassed half of the carries he had last year in six games. While this might be great for a second or third year man, Gore is no spring chicken. The trend will not continue or the wheels will fall off the bus.

Ivory - Ingram a little banged up, Thomas meh, Sproles situational... Ivory came in last year and did what we're looking for this year.

I've been toying with the date of when I'm going to pick up Hunter for several weeks. I've been hedging my bets so far...
[*]2007 - Missed week 9 : Started 15 games with 12 plus carries in every other game.

[*]2008 - Missed weeks 15/16 : Started 14 games. Weeks 12, 13, 14 and 17 had incredibly very poor rushing/receiving stats.

[*]2009 - Missed weeks 4/5 : Started 14 games but essentially missed week 3 as he had 1 carry before injury.

[*]2010 - Missed weeks 13-17 : Started 11 games but had pretty strong rushing totals before going down. 203 carries for 800+ yards and 46 receptions 450 yds.

Through 6 games in Gore's amassed 109 carries. This is just under (116) the amount of carries he had at this time last year. However, because of the lack of receptions he isn't getting as many hits or tackles; something to consider. 12 receptions this year compared to 33 receptions at this same time last year. Either way, Gore will fall based on previous years as an indicator. 1 game, 2 games, 3 games, 5 games, X games. It might be wise to go ahead and pick up Kendall to make sure you get him before it's too late.

To curve this back to the original topic, I don't buy into Murray. Perhaps it's my bias, but there are a bunch of RB's that seem to eat into carries in the dome. I don't believe in a one week wonder. It's the same reason I didn't start Cam after week 1.

If/when Gore takes a fall, I believe Kendall will receive the lion's share. This is who i'm voting for.

Does the fact that starting him would have been the right move change anything at all? Murray's a beast - looked better than I thought he ever did even here at OU. He really got the tough yards, and broke tackles, and ran strong. Those were my worries with him - that he wouldn't be able to run strong, but he sure as hell did last week.

It could very well be. Sometimes players don't show their true value until they're put into live action. But with the game coming against the Rams it makes me think twice before going all in. Tanner also got 6 carries and average 5 yards per last week. Through 7 weeks teams so far are averaging 5.5 yards per and have tallied over 1100 yards against St Louis. That's a league worst in both categories. In limited time, Murray has only averaged 3 yards against everyone else.Murray looked exciting last week (i didn't have the luxury of watching the game) but I think we both have bias' that lead us to fall on either side of the seesaw. You like OU and I dislike the 'boys. I wouldn't be surprised, however, to see Murray perform well. Good players are expected to perform well against poor teams. I just don't think you'll have something to brag about THIS year with Murray being a rookie and there being so many mouths to feed in Dallas. Perhaps he'll separate himself away by the beginning of next year.

I think you misunderstand my bias - I didn't think he'd be good. I own him in one redraft and no dynasties because I didn't think he could get the tough yards: he never showed me he could do anything but run through truck sized holes. He really kept the legs churning and moved the pile. He pushed would-be tacklers over and was really physical. And if it all comes down to it, you may as well take a chance on a guy with a couple more weeks sans Felix who clearly has the starting job for now.I'd grab Tanner too, space permitting. But as long as Murray doesn't screw it up, it appears the job is his until Felix gets back, and perhaps a heavy timeshare even then.

Cowboys waived RB Tashard Choice.BUMP

Ah , I apologize for the misinterpretation. I think moving forward we may see a Tanner/Murray combo just to determine who should challenge for the timeshare. Together that limits both.

Murray is No. 1 overall in my book, proud owner wherever possible right here.

WR: - it might have been DHB but then Campbell got hurt and Big Al passed on, now I think it's Antonio Brown and Cruz. Decker has probably saved some wins for some people. But for those who are still searching it may be Den. Moore depending on how the rest of the season plays out; he may be the rare WW hit who was available on the WW TWICE.

QB: - Depending on how it all plays out, Tebow, but Palmer has a real shot too. (Excluding Newton).
