Hawk = BOD (1 Viewer)

Even if he was similar to Katzenmoyer, who cares? That's just one player.

Vince Young looks more similar to Roethlisberger/McNair -- does that mean he's going to go to the Super Bowl in his second year/win a co-MVP?

:fishy:

This is precisely the garbage that I hoped that I would not be seeing anymore after moving from a different board.  It'd be one thing if there was some analysis to backup a statement that every expert disagrees with, but this is clearly just trolling.
I can't make an observation and wait for other opinions before giving my own? What the hell is wrong with everybody, I said a top 5 player is going to be a bust...and all of a sudden I'm pissing in the shark pool??

I think I'm done here today.

Good day gents.
That's JoeT's shark pool shtick your stealing. :bye:

Tell me this.  If Hawk was a black LB from Marshall would be he be getting picked in the top 5?

I might need to make this a poll.
Hawk didn't go to a small school like Marshall he went to OHIO ST. He played against top level talent and no one could keep him away from the football. He has elite measurables and I don't think stop watches care if your black or white.
:lmao: This just in...the Big 10 sucks.
How did the Conference of Champions hold up in the Rose Bowl?

I can't start a Hawk is overrated thread now??
please list even a single reason why you think that.also, why do you think Katzenmoyer is a better comparison for Hawk than someone like Chris Spielman?
See above post.Additonally, I think Katz is a good comparison because I think he was hyped for many of the same reasons Hawk is getting hyped...Hawk is the great white hype from "The Ohio State University"(which hasn't done **** in quite some time now)

I'm not buying the hype. I'm basing my decision on what I've seen from Hawk against non-Big 10 teams, in other words teams like Texas that actually have an elment of NFL caliber speed.

The Big10 doesn't have that element of NFL speed that the SEC/Pac10/Big12 do.

Yeah, I would run away too after making such ridiculous claims. First of all, as already pointed out, OSU was the national champion in 2002 and beat a Miami team that some people thought was one of the best teams ever. And let us look at the his stats from OSUs two big non-conference games:

Texas:

7 solo tackles (3 for losses), 5 assisted tackles, 2 sacks against Young, a forced fumble and an INT.

OSUs defense played horribly in that game and Youbote was really bad, but Hawk was absolutely outstanding. He had Vince Young contained single-handedly for almost the entire game.

Notre Dame:

9 solo tackles (3 for losses), 3 assisted, 2 sacks.

So please, just admit that you were trolling and run along home with your tail between your legs.

Shaun Alexander is a bust because the NFC West sucks. He really reminds me of Curtis Enis(another black running back)

since I'm willing to give LHUCKS the benefit of the doubt here, maybe he'll be kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

#1 Where do you think AJ Hawk should be drafted?

#2 What are some of the main reasons you think he'll fail to live up to expectations?

#3 Which linebacker(s) in this draft are better than him?

Thanks very much in advance. Look forward to reading your objective, well thought out, and informed responses.
 prediction: 3 minutes until lhucks posts again...without answering any of these

See any of their test scores directed at general IQ.

One of the draft magazines had an article on this very topic. I cannot recall which one. They did some digging, as stat and draftniks are prone to do from time to time, and found some interesting dynamics between a LB; his overall intelligence and sustained success at the NFL level.

Katzenmoyer could not count to 21 if he was naked.
Katz was dumber than a box of rocks.

Well..yes. What about him don't you like, other than he's white?

It wasn't meant to be schtick. I'm sincerely disappointed in the response I got here today. From now on I'll just pimp players so that I may attain my eternal goal of messageboard popularity.

The reason why most people suck at ff is because they don't criticize to the extent they need to. Spelled out...they see a cheatsheet and they think every player on that sheet is worth drafting at their ADP, when in reality less than half are.

It's a shame that every time I criticize a player on this board I get a mob of persons (who have some vested interest in the player) that come at me with negative, defensive tones.

It hurts the value of the board IMO. But like I said I'm done here, this thread obviously isn't accomplishing what I had hoped it would.

Giving reasons other than he sucks because he's white and he sucks because the the Big 10 sucks might help your "argument"

I guess you missed the Texas game and the Notre Dame game as well. Hawk lived up to the bill in those game from what I can remember. He stuffs the run, moves sideline to sideline and blitz well. Look, I hate the Buckeyes, but you gotta give the guy his props as he's been one of the top LBs in the country on one of the best defenses in the country the last two years.
For my money he looked very average in those games which is partially why I think he should go in the late first/early second.I don't view him as the impact player that everybody else seems to.

Bush/Leinar/Davis...these guys are impact players. Hawk is a solid starter, who may never see a Pro Bowl.
I thought he contained Young vey well in that game, with 76 yards on 20 carries. Of course the 12 total tackles (3 for loss), interception, 2 sacks, the forced fumble and fumble recovery he had in that game were pretty good too. As for the Notre Dame game, besides having a hot girlfriend, Hawk was named the defensive MVP of the game and had two sacks.

What hurts the board are posters who make inane comparisons between 2 players who are nothing alike other than their position, school and skin color and refuse to back it up with legitimate analysis.

i was off by a minutepeople wouldn't pile on if you didn't do this every week and/or actually gave reasonable reasons for calling a bust

Not sure what skin color has to do with this at all...of the 20 linebackers selected in the top 5 overall picks since 1980, at least half were black. But putting aside skin color, it's far less likely A.J. Hawk would be top 5 overall pick if he played at Marshall because scouts would be unable or less willing to project his production to the NFL level. Hawk was THE dominant defensive player on one of the country's most talented defensive units, playing top tier competition seemingly ever week. If there's a hole in Hawk's game, I'd love to hear your thoughts...

Do you think he's not instinctive?

Not athletic?

Not strong?

Not a sure tackler?

Not consistently productive?

Not tough?

Watching Hawk makes me think of Brian Urlacher, and not because they're both white. They're both smart players that identify plays right away. They both have tremendous sideline to sideline speed. They both seem to be involved in just about every play. They both are intense. They both have good technique.

I'd be very surprised if Hawk does not end up as a Pro-Bowler soon.
Well said Grove. I made the same move to avoid this same kind of garbage. At least here it isn't a constant assault. LHUCKS, PM me and I'll link you to a board with many just like you. I'd love some realistic analysis for you prediction just for posterity and fact checking.LBs rarely bust. Hawk is the least likely player in this draft to bust. He may not have the impact of others, but he's a player. Nothing short of injury will keep this guy from being a very good NFL linebacker.

Making a vast claim with minimal arguments is what hurts the boards. I'd be much more willing to listen to your claim if you present more constructive arguments. And I'm pretty sure you accomplished exactly what you wanted to here.

Good point. The only reason they won the 2002 championship was obviously that Miami didn't have that element of NFL speed either.

that's the way. make an outrageous claim while providing absolutely no info whatsoever, watch it backfire on you, and then run away when people ask you to back up your claim with some reasoned and insightful analysis.I'm all for contrarian thinking, but it would be nice if you'd bring something to the table here other than "He's overrated b/c he's white" and "The Big 10 sucks".

No, I think that it accomlished exactly what you wanted. You tossed the bait and a lot of us idiots took it. Feel free to pat yourself on the back for a trolling well done. If I'm wrong and you'd like to have a real discussion, feel free to bring some real reasoning to the table instead of the garbage you've tossed out so far. But since I doubt I'm wrong, my bet is you'll continue to play the victim, keep saying that you're done with this thread and post more and more garbage.

Agreed. At least mention something negative about him specifically, not an entire ethnicity or conference

:lmao:

This just in...the Big 10 sucks.
this really adds a ton of value to the boards. thanks for sharing.Tom Brady probably shouldn't even be playing in the NFL after coming out of such a horrible conference. Obviously, Drew Bledsoe out of the great Pac-10 is way better than some scrub from Michigan.

I guess conference affiliation is pretty much the only thing scouts and dynasty owners should look at when evaluating prospective players. This is exactly the type of info readers are looking for in the Shark Pool to dominate their leagues.

I have no problem with your take that Hawk could be the bust of draft, but you are smart enough to know that if you are going to hold an opinion counter to the norm that you are going to have explain yourself early and often. Just saying a player is going to suck because he is white and from Ohio state gets you the type of response you got and quite frankly deserve. It is accomplishing exactly what you hoped to. don't try to play the innocent. If you wanted a discussion of the merits (or lack of merits) of AJ Hawk you would laid it in the first post and let your argument speak to itself. I think I have seen you do that before and thought you were going to have some pretty good stuff. I hoped for someone to point something out that I missed in regards to Hawk. Oh well, its only a couple minutes off my life.

You new here?
:lmao: No, but I think that people here generally think he's really knowledgeable and I just don't see it.
Maybe it's the beatdown that I gave you last year that you are missing...or does head to head ff competition not count??Unbelievable.
Is that the best you got? The fact that you beat me in a survivor league last year? If that's how you measure your greatness, I feel sorry for you.

It's that other OSU linebacker that will be great (Carpenter). I happen to agree with LHUCKS about Hawk. It's a proven fact that players with bird names never amount to anything.

I think John got bit by one of those crazy poisonous snakes whilst he was "down under". I would kill to see Hawk fall to my Raiders. Safest pick in the top 10 imo.

please back up your statement with something other than "the Big 10 sucks". That shtick is so played and really has no business in the Shark Pool.
I have to agree. To this point this doesn't belong in our Shark Pool. You're no idiot LHUCKS, please give some reasoning for your assessment. If you could point to specifics it would make for a much stronger discussion.

Bumping potential NFL players up or down depending on what conference they played in anyway lends discredit to anything you espouse (at least when you're comparing one major to another). Just another fishing escapade much like LHUCKS did I'm sure while he was on vacation. I honestly think a kangaroo gave him a quick footy in the gut.

Maybe it was a Vegamite sandwich?

LHUCKS, just so you understand where most of us are coming from...this thread you started would be perfectly analagous to someone else starting a thread titled "Matt Leinart = Bust of Draft. See Ryan Leaf" and then when someone asked them for more analysis, they responded the Pac 10 sucks and asked if he would be a top-2 pick if he were a black QB from Marshall.

seriously

or, if you want a bust QB from USC instead of the Pac-10, you can also go with Rob Johnson or Todd Marinovich or Rodney Peete.
