they had a special preview of episode 7 a week ago if you signed up for that HBOGo that they've been advertising. Dont think they're doing it this week.So how can I watch Episode 8 a week before it airs like you people seem to be able to do?
Really?I have no perspective having read the books. A co-worker is watching this show and has not read the books, but is way into the series. He doesn't get everything but has the basics down.Woa.
One of the best closing scenes for an episode in a mini series... maybe ever.
Yea, I it is the TV that I look forward to the most right now. I don't see what there is to not keep up with. Unless there is some hidden deeper meaning to everything that I am missing. The only thing I am confused about is the map because the opening sequence gets me all confused for whatever reason.... dang screws and what not....Really?I have no perspective having read the books. I'm a little embarassed to say that I'm stoked that non-book people are so into this series.
Why would that embarrass you? I'm thrilled they are because the more that are into it the better the chance it doesn't get cancelled.I'm a little embarassed to say that I'm stoked that non-book people are so into this series.
Seems to me you have the basics. The story seems to boil down to...
House Stark are the wardens in the north with a lot of close ties and background with the King. They are kind of the backup to the NightsWatch who guard a big wall from barbarians and some sort of monster type thing. House Lanister is the richest of the land with the daughter married to the King but her and her brother Jamie are nasty incest lovers and he sired her two sons which everyone thinks is the Kings. The previous hand was killed because he figured out that secret. The king comes to ask Lord Stark to be the next hand and while there, the little Stark accidentally comes across the nasty Lanisters doing their nasty thing. They push him off hoping to kill him... it does not work. They send and assassin with their other brothers knife who botches the job. The Little Finger helps them figure out that the knife was from Imp Lanister and Lady Stark decides to grab him when she has the chance. Instead of going to Winterfell, she takes him to her crazy sister's keep. He demands a trial by combat and his champion saves him. Meanwhile, Jamie and Lord Stark fight and a mean at arms pierces Lord Starks leg. Then, the king goes and gets himself killed by a boar and there is a power struggle between Lanister and Stark. Stark is double crossed and things look bleak. As all that is going on, the crazy white haired Dragon blooded son of the crazy king (forget their house name right now.... I am sick and a little clouded in the head) 'sells' his hottie sister to the king of the horse people in hopes to get him to fight for him in the seven kingdoms... things dont go the way he hopes and crazy brother gets himself killed by threating the hottie sister just as hottie sister is starting to gain confidence in herself as a queen. His death by fire further reinforces her confidence because she is not hurt by fire and he was. She then starts to try to convince her hubby horse people king to ride wooden horses across the dead water to take the throne of a bunch of swords. He is not going for it. That is, until a would be assassin is stopped in trying to kill her- something Lord Stark was against- and this really ticks off horse people king to the extreme... so, he says "let's take a three hour tour" and go kill, rape and enslave the people over in the other dirt. Miss anything?
Nothing to be embarrassed about, I'm the same way. Gives me more to share, discuss and enjoy if people get excited about the series.I do have a new account on Westeros, but as enlightening as they are, the book discussions can get pretty silly, so I'm mostly in lurk mode for now.Really?I have no perspective having read the books. well, I think I am keeping up, but could be way off as well. One question i have that i think i should know better is what was the deal with John Snow not becoming a Ranger. Was it as simple as the plump fellow suggested where the other guy is setting Snow up to be something bigger, or is it more obvious like he is holding a grudge? And if he is holding a grudge, is it because of what we have seen through the training, or is there something more sinister/political that I did not pick up on?Good Lord, I wish you guys would post on the geek boards. I'm about half sick of book-people saying that non-readers can't keep up. Seems to me that you all are following just fine.
Read only if you really want the answer.well, I think I am keeping up, but could be way off as well. I don't recall that whole sequence in the book.'Matthias said:Nice (if rather heavy-handed) symbolism, but I didn't picture Tywin as anybody who skinned his own stags.Loving the symbolism they have been throwing into the episodes lately...ie...Joffrey calling Sansa "Lady" multiple times (the name of her wolf that he had killed) and last night the introduction of Lord Tywin discussing the power of Houses and the importance that their house be feared and respected as he is skinning a stag (House sigil of the King)

Re-ordered the books on Amazon to re-read. I've borrowed out all of my originals.

Arya's next scene is one of the best scenes in the book.Maybe not for everyone, but the following pictures from "Winter is Coming, ##tches" are killing me.[Edit: url redacted by language filter, you can look it up if you want]
Just sit this one out, Ned.
Ned & Bob In Bruges
OH SPOILER
Jon
Just saw this week's episode, and they're firing on all cylinders. Hit all the right notes. Loved coming back to the Night's Watch after a two-episode break, and it was awesome to see the old weirwood tree beyond the Wall for the vow. Also, Jeor Mormont just looks and sounds like a bad mutha-
Missed Arya, though.![]()
Updated through episode 7...#1: Cersei#2: Daenerys#3: None#4: None#5: Ros#6: None#7: None, unless you count Ros and the whore practicingHas there been an episode without a chick getting rocked from behind yet?
ThisI just started reading the books. I couldn't resist.
Yeah not a lot of insecure fashionistas in here.Petrified to read this thread, half because you guys are all wizard nerds, but mostly because I'm sure it's riddled with spoilers. Just wanted to say this show is getting really really good. Love the buildup on everything. I'm veryfor next week...
Yes, it's Sardo Numspa from "The Golden Child"all caught up on the show, save for the new one.
Spoilers above?
Have they showed the Lannister Father? i don't think so, which is kind of weird imo.
Also, has there been any explanation as to the eyed crow Ned's son sees in his dreams?
Yes, yes and not yet.Spoilers above?Have they showed the Lannister Father? i don't think so, which is kind of weird imo. Also, has there been any explanation as to the eyed crow Ned's son sees in his dreams?
Yes, one scene. They show him in this last episode, then?
Thanks for posting this. I just finished the fourth book and still didn't have a great idea of where some of the locations were in relation to others until I saw that map(particularly Braavos). The maps in the books were often incomplete and frustrating to try and figure out, at least in the recently released paperback editions.kinda cool:http://viewers-guide.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/#!/map/
Yea...I saw the ending coming from a mile away. So, this last episode didn't do it for me. They sure telegraphed all the punches.
I thought it was explained in an earlier episode, but it basically goes like this:He was small for his age and is from an area called The Fingers - hence "Littlefinger".So did Littlefinger explain his nickname in the brothel scene?Watched again last night...he talked about how he was Kat's 'little buddy'....and that Ned's brother left him with a Scar to remember the lesson by.Was his finger tip cut off?
i will be disapointed if next season is not at least 12 hours long. There are only THREE episodes left?![]()
You're right....at the joust I believe. That scene in the brother was good foreshadowing to the ending....after watching it again.I thought it was explained in an earlier episode, but it basically goes like this:He was small for his age and is from an area called The Fingers - hence "Littlefinger".So did Littlefinger explain his nickname in the brothel scene?Watched again last night...he talked about how he was Kat's 'little buddy'....and that Ned's brother left him with a Scar to remember the lesson by.Was his finger tip cut off?
I noticed that this weeks episode is written by Martin - the only one I believe. Seems like an impossible task to cover the entire first book in just 10 episodes, but I think they've done a pretty good job of it.There are only THREE episodes left?![]()
