HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (5 Viewers)

I watched the episode again at lunch today, and noticed a couple little things I didn't notice the first time (because I was drunk and/or tired).like, when Ser Rodrick(?) comes in to tell Bran that the other town is under attack, and Bran tells him to take the men to defend it, there's some creepy guy milling around in the shadows kind of listening in. I figure they wouldn't show that if it wasn't important. maybe a Greyjoy plant?and also how bad*ss Ghost looks while standing on the hill watching the night watch guys set up camp in the snow. he looks huge!
here's something else I picked up from a repeated viewing that maybe all you guys got right away and I'm just dumb...at first, the way that the assassin guy (the one that Arya saved) talks was bugging me. I was like why does he say "a man this" and "a girl that"? I thought he was just a weirdo. then it hit me. talking like that means he never has to say his own name, or someone else's name that he doesn't know or want to say. if no one ever knows your name, then you can assume whatever identity you want. nobody can ever track you down by saying "go find and kill Bill" or identify you easily by saying "Steve gave her the poison mushroom". without a name, you become a shadow or a rumor or a chameleon. pretty slick.or maybe he's just a weirdo.

While in the cage on the wagon, he introduced himself as Jaqen H'ghar. Maybe he talks kinda funny because he's from Braavos, same as Arya's "dance" teacher.

I want the 2 minutes it took me to write that post back.

In the book I think Jaqen claims he is from Lorath; Syrio the Waterdancer is from Braavos. Different cities in the 9 Free Cities.

That's right. Sansa flipped out over that. Arya's direwolf has to return at some point, you think? They've given a lot of emphasis on the Stark direwolves to this point, so it'd be kinda stupid for them to just abandon one out of forgetfulness.
I've read through four of the books and one of my biggest gripes with Martin is that he's much better at creating mysterious intrigue and suspense than he is at tidying up his messes.

I think this is to distance himself from LOTR. This is a brutal world. This point is hammered home relentlessly. I agree that we are to a point where "ok, we get it."

Brutal I get. Heads don't get cut off in LOTR (unless you're an orc), necks don't get gouged in jousting competitions in Middle Earth, and you certainly won't see any brothels or any crazy Dothraki marriage rituals in Hobbiton. I love all those things and have no problem with any of them. But baby killing is just too damn much. Sometimes I wonder if I even have a limit and Game of Thrones has shown me that limit. I hope there's no more of that ####, but I get the feeling I'm wrong.
Really hope we don't see the whole baby-killed-by-wolf-while-breast-feeding thing that someone mentioned from the book. That #### just disturbs me to think about.

In the book we hear most of those things via second hand information, never given a play-by-play. For instance everyone knows Gregor Clegane killed Rhaegar's two children, but we the reader only heard it recounted from other characters in the story. Same thing with the killing of Robert's bastards and
the baby that's killed by a wolf.

This might be piercing the veil for some of you, but here's a panel with a bunch of the season 1 casthttp://youtu.be/BmQzGKIEV2I
Daenarys is so much hotter as a brunette.
She's one of those rare women where I think she looks just as good either way.
The thing that struck me wasn't the hair difference. It was her smile.

I am in the 3rd Book of the series and after watching the last episode I wouldnt recall if that lady who spoke to Jorah in Qarth was in the books or not?

No, she wasn't
You sure?
A mysterious woman from the Shadow Lands.Quaith came to Vaes Tolorro to see Daenerys and her dragons. (ACOK 13) She accompanied Daenerys to Qarth, and left her with a warning not to trust anyone in the city. (ACOK 28) She reintiated contact with Daenerys several days later and told her to go to Asshai. (ACOK 41)

U sure about that? I think she played a minor role. I think she was the one who

Told Dany she would be betrayed three times, once for love, once for gold, and once for revenge.

Yes. She was the one in the red lacquer mask. Although I remember her talking to Dany as they were riding down the street, and not with Jorah.
Now this sounds familiar...when they were watching some tricks or something, correct?

I think so. I think Dany was riding in a litter, the red mask lady was walking beside the litter giving cryptic advice. And there was some commotion in the street.

that was the house of black and white, no?
Dany gets told that she will be betrayed by the warlocks in the House of the Undying. The House of Black and White is where the Faceless Men are based out of.Quaithe is the woman that Jorah spoke to in the show. This scene does not happen in the books. She does speak to Dany while Dany is watching a guy do tricks with fire. Quaithe tells Dany that his tricks were subpar - until her dragons were birthed into the world. Quaithe also speaks to Dany a bit in her dreams (or at least that is sort of alluded to in the books). The gives 2 prophecies that I know of.

OK, got it. I have my house names mixed up. House of the Undying was Dany. House of B&W is Arya.

For the Lot of you who grew up playing the Legand of Zelda..... Seperated at birth Ganon and Tywin Lannister. In fact if they made a legand of Zelda Movie I can't see anyone else playing the part.

Darn it... I went to the westeros wiki to figure something out.... I ended up stumbling on something that had me  and wished I hadn't.

If you haven't read the books it isn't a good idea to go browsing wikis on the series.
Yea... I was fine with what I started doing (making sure Ser Roderick was the same guy I thought it was) and even reading his bio which peeped a bit further but nothing surprising. Then, I decided to get a better understanding of the map... so I did that. I wanted to know more about Haranhal when I did that and then I read about it... well, that then gave me surprising info about Little Finger for the future that just made me :jawdrop:

I watched the episode again at lunch today, and noticed a couple little things I didn't notice the first time (because I was drunk and/or tired).

like, when Ser Rodrick(?) comes in to tell Bran that the other town is under attack, and Bran tells him to take the men to defend it, there's some creepy guy milling around in the shadows kind of listening in. I figure they wouldn't show that if it wasn't important. maybe a Greyjoy plant?

and also how bad*ss Ghost looks while standing on the hill watching the night watch guys set up camp in the snow. he looks huge!
just noticed this while watching right now. Good stuff.

Anyone have a link to this scene?

The person with long hair? Isn't that just Osha? Also, I wonder what is up with the Khaleesi's two lady servants, there was some serious tension between them last episode. Is the hot one going to try and steal a dragon or screw Khaleesi over in some way?
