HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (2 Viewers)

In one episode, they have made Sansa a much, much more interesting character than in all previous episodes, as well as the books.
:goodposting: this might be the one area where the show did something better than the book
arent they pretty much at the end of the sansa/littlefnger story show v book? I mean they gonna have her sit in the eryie for two seasons? that story has to progress in season 5

They're actually prepping to leave the Eryie(Remember the march down the mountain with the girl we assume is another Baratheon *******). They can go in several directions IMO, pretty open ended

Also, the Grey Worm/Missandei love story is painful. I hope they drop that crap soon.
Anything that involves that actress being nekkid cannot be painful.

Potential birth of a star here. Halle Berry-type hot.

:idigblackchicks:
That made the rest of that diversion worth it, but really it didn't do much to advance the story. Similarly with the beetle squishing chat. It was a good t.v. scene, probably will add some poignance/tension to the upcoming "unbonding" between Tyrion and Jamie for t.v. only people, but ultimately I felt like they could have done something more interesting with the time.

as far as the end game goes. after all the battles and dragons and white walkers and wars.

Dany sits on the throne with hardly a kingdom to rule.
Martin's said the ending is bittersweet. So I figure most of the principles end up dead, the whitewalker/other mystery is solved and/or stopped, a Stark is back running the north and Dany dies after giving birth to the next king/queen of Westeros.

So I need some people to remind me, but the botched Theon rescue attempt was not in the books, right? If so I don't remember it.

If I am right, to me this is an example of the writers messing up the overall plot structure, given the Moat Cailin story that was in the books.

At the end of the rescue attempt Asha said "my brother is dead". At that point she would have sent Ravens to Ironborn back at Pike but also presumably to other encampments too reporting that Theon was non compus mentus and under the complete control of Ramsay Snow. So he would have never been allowed into Moat Cailin and the Ironborn would have known from the start that it was simply a ruse, no?

Also, the Grey Worm/Missandei love story is painful. I hope they drop that crap soon.
No clue but a few thoughts/ideas:

Most Cailin was under siege as hey tried to show through the carnage shots. Ravens might have been shot down. Long shot, but Theon shot one down outside of the Twins on the show.

Also, not sure Asha was rolling with ravens in the first place.

I don't see it as a huge hole.

I have a bigger issue with how they've handled the Tyrian/Tysha story. I hope they don't ruin it. Two huge things come from it. Jamie's reveal and "wherever whores go".

If Tyrion doesn't strangle shae and they convert his subsequqnet search to her, it'll be a shame.

Like the Tysha backstory?

They could have gotten the nakedness in without the horrible follow up scene.
Some of that dialogue is from the book but from a different context. I think it came after missandei's brother was killed. Foggy but I remember the "but for" explanation.

It is a good question. Would have to say Jon (assuming, you know, he's still alive) and Dany. They are the two that appear to have greater destinies in this universe. But, Martin could every well be setting us up just to pull the rug out from underneath us.

Also Sam. Hard to see that guy meeting an early demise.
I hope so. Every time he has done this so far, I am so blindsided by it that I have to put the book down for some time and take a breather. These are the best moments of the series regardless of who is the victim.

If you have read any of Martin's other books a "happy ending" is never really in the cards.

I think the Targ line is ended as are the Others. The Wall falls. Arya dies (although I wish she wouldn't). Sansa becomes queen - married either to Littlefinger or Tyrion. Rickon becomes Lord of Winterfell. I think the dragons die as well.

I could see that. And, as much as I also like Arya, he's not really giving her anywhere else to go but dead if/after she's able to enact her revenge, unless she just has a long career as a faceless woman.

who on her list is still alive to exact revenge on?

This sounds likely to me. I'd add that I'd bet Westeros goes back to being 7 separate kingdoms.

This is what I thought would eventually happen with her.

I think it could be something like Fire and Ice destroy (or neutralize) each other and the real GoT is ultimately just the Gods/universe striving for power against each other. And most of the characters we know end up dead or ruined like Septon Maribald's peasants.

We're all pawns in the end.

#### this board. That was from NIU Kicker. Good call for a non-book reader.

Another great post in the non-book thread from this guy:

I can't say as to why, but I can't shake the feeling that Varys is going to save The Imps ### somehow. The whole I didn't forget speech has to figure in eventually somehow.

He didn't step in the save Ned Stark the last time and he saw how it all turned out.
lol, so prescient ...

wasn't there another post saying that either jamie or varys would be able to help an escape but tyrion would take out somebody on the way out?

I am guessing we will have to wait until next season for Tyrion to recount the escape to someone, and observe that he did not, in fact, #### gold.
nah, I can see episode 9 being all about the wall and episode 10 is tyrion/tywin etc, plus bran and not sure how they end w danny, lots of throne rooming. Usually epsidoe 10 ends with danny

Season 1, Episode 9 - Ned's head

Season 2, Episode 9 - Battle of Blackwater BAy

Season 3, Episode 9 - Red Wedding

Pretty safe bet IMO that this episode is going to have Tywin's exit.

I have no doubt that Tywin ####s this season - I just don't think they will be able to adequately convey the lack of gold - maybe he says something to Varys afterwords. Its a classic line in the book, just harder to convey on the screen, since it was in Tyrions mind in the book.

Doesn't seem difficult to imagine Tyrion saying it to an incredulous Tywin as he dies.

So, I forget. The Unsullied... is it all lopped off, or just the berries and they keep the twig.

I think for Varys (not unsullied but a eunic), he's like a Ken doll down there.
Without testosterone Grey Worm couldn't care less about Missandre. Also, losing the berries tends to make them fat and weak- it would make it more difficult to make the unsullied into the fierce warriors they are.

WHile most eunuchs are made by cutting the berries, it would make more sense to create warriors but cutting the twigs

You've put a lot of thought into this

So, just balls? But then they're vulnerable to nut punches.

Ah, I looked it up. Its the whole kit and kaboodle lopped off. They must sit to pee.

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the Unsullied are trained in Astapor, one of the three major cities of Slaver's Bay. They begin their training at five years old, when their genitals are fully removed. They are also given a puppy to look after, and at the end of the first year they must strangle the puppy to death. If they refuse, they are culled from the trainees and killed. They train from dawn to dusk until they have mastered the shortsword, shield, and three lengths of spear. Only one in three survives the training regime. They are given a beverage called the "wine of courage", which over years numbs their body's ability to feel pain. Upon being given the spiked cap which is the symbol of their rank, they must go to the slave market, kill an infant slave before its mother and pay the slave owner for his loss.

How does somebody write this ####? How many bodies does he have in his freezer?

Was the eunuch procedure really done back in the day? How do people survive and function after that without antibiotics??

Props to HBO for glossing over the puppy death and infantcide.

Yeah, I don't think it would really work if you're removing everything -- you'd have a lot of little dudes bleeding out. Snipping the balls is much easier and was done.

Some decent sleuthing going on in the TV thread, imo.
Most likely book readers, who like to pretend to be smart...
probably. seems to be a bit of that going on, but hard to tell who's who.
If it wouldn't be a spoiler, I would call them out. There's at least two book readers pretending they are just guessing.

I hate the feeling of being embarrassed for someone, and someone that is on an anonymous message board, pretending they haven't read the books in a thread about a TV show, so a few other guys they will never meet MIGHT think they are perceptive, makes me embarrassed for them.
Spill it.
