HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (7 Viewers)

GRRM is apparently pushing for HBO to commit to 8 seasons plus a final feature film with a $200m budget to complete the story.
I really hope that last part is a joke.
8 seasons, I dont see why not, but HBO's magic number seems to be 7

well I imagine a final battle with dragons and white walkers looking pretty sweet on the big screen,

I cant see HBO wanting to end their series on the big screen though, you will have people going to the movies who havent seen the show going.........huh???
Does "feature film to complete the story" necessarily mean something to be shown in theaters? I didn't read it that way, assumed it means a 2-3 hour HBO grand finale, likely involving a massive battle.

No tv episodes will be $200m. This would be a movie. Its unclear whether it would cover the entire last book or second half, or final chapters etc.

Even if it does, this would be a massive success if HBO gets millions of subscriptions out of this show for 8 years and then gets to charge theatre prices to everyone just to watch the finale.

Why wouldn't HBO want a movie that can potentially break box office records?
you think it would? could you really make a movie thats just the end of a TV show?
If the Sopranos did that right now I think they may break the record and tons would go and catch up on the show before the film.
Yeah, probably not now - given that Tony is definitely dead....
they could start the movie with Tony face down on the diner table with his brains blown all over his family.

then end it

Last book. Lol.

Eighty HBO episodes plus the final three in big-screen, big-budget form would be unbelievable.
Yes, give me 2 and a half hours of Brienne aimlessly wandering around the dreariest places in Westeros on the big screen please!
The Fellowship of the Pod

I can't even remember most of the people from Dorne. I remember the scene with the blood oranges. Nothing that was said mind you, just the plopping of the over-ripe oranges. Reminded me of taking a ####, which is pretty much what the Dorne storyline is.

Guess this confirms thoughts on Jon Snow

http://winteriscoming.net/2014/07/18/sean-bean-wants-return-game-thrones/

He (Sean Bean) also noted, “And that should happen, shouldn’t it? I’ve definitely got some unfinished business that needs to be resolved there. I’m obviously not Jon Snow’s dad. And you need that to be revealed at some point, don’t you? So Bran would kind of be the one having the flashback, and he would see Ned praying, right? And revealing those things? You never know what those guys are going to do with that. It’s got to be something special. But I’m into that. I certainly would be into that. Print that! Give them a nudge. Hopefully I’ll get a call soon.”

Of all her boneheaded moves, having the previous High Septon killed may have been her worst. In his place, she gets a militant who's got a fanatical following. In exchange for the Faith forgiving the Crown's debts and the High Septon blessing Tommen as king (something I don't think has been done yet, nor do I think will be done), the Faith gets to rearm itself (outlawed centuries before as they got too strong). Then the High Septon lets Cersei basically walk her own dumb ### into prison.

There's an interesting theory floating around that the High Septon is really

Howland Reed
Not sure I buy that, but it's intriguing.

Yes, great choice. Also like Alexander Siddig a lot. He was one of the few actors that I thought would break the Star Trek curse and managed a few small movie parts but never made it out of that shadow.

I pictured Areo as kind of Middle Eastern looking.
Me too, but it doesn't really matter. I have no idea who this actor is but, if he's good, it'll be fine. The nice thing about alternative worlds is that they don't have to adhere to whatever bull#### ethnicity rules so many do in our own, even if they're false (I'm looking at you, just about every Anglo-American fantasy author ever who describes all of their characters as "fair of skin").

One of the funniest (& saddest) things I've ever read is the reaction to the casting choice for the character of Rue (sp?) in the Hunger Games movie. People went ape#### because the actress was (still is, I guess) non-Anglo when she was described in the books as being dark skinned.

I really surprised there is no mention of Arianne. I guess either Trystane or the Sand Snakes will fill her role.

Also, I always fantasized pictured the Sand Snakes being a lot hotter.

Two of the three have serious potential- they'll be fine.

Isn't she the more prominent daughter? They need to get someone extra hot to play her.

An 86-year-old actor on the HBO hit series Game of Thrones died Friday just days into filming his scenes for its upcoming season.

JJ Murphy was an actor from Ireland who had been cast to play Ser Denys Mallister, the oldest member of the Nights Watch and longtime Shadow Tower watchman in the fifth season of Song of Ice and Fire, the Guardian reports.

The cause of his death is unknown, but his agent Phillip Young did say the seasoned actor was absolutely delighted to be given a role in one of the biggest productions in the world at this stage in his career.

Murphys career began in the 1940s as a theater actor in Northern Ireland.

Young called the actors death a tragic loss, but added that Murphy had enjoyed a long and full career.

We will not be recasting JJ murphy, Thrones producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff said in a statement.

He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended.

Cersei's Major 'Game Of Thrones' Nude Scene Is Officially Going To HappenThe Huffington Post | By Bill Bradley

Warning! This post is dark and full of spoilers.

Your prayers have been answered, "Game of Thrones" fans.

After a lot of controversy, Cersei Lannister's big "GoT" scene is going to happen after all, thanks to a compromise with Croatian film commissioners.

Initially, the film commission, which TMZ reports is heavily influenced by the local church, wouldn't create permits for a pivotal scene in which Cersei is stripped and shamed by the High Septon because it would require actress Lena Headey to get naked in an actual church in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The scene was too important to be cut, so the two sides have now reached a compromise.

HBO will be allowed to film Cersei walking naked in the streets as long as she doesn't set foot in the place of worship. In addition, all nude scenes inside the church will now be shot on a fake set instead.

It's a solution that should please the old gods and the new (and Jaime of course).

That's going to happen this season? They will be ahead of GRRM by next season then, no?
several plot lines the show is already caught up or about to pass.heck season 5 could easily end with danny flying away on the dragon, jon snow getting stabbed and the sersei walk.
They'd be eliminating all of the iron born then, right? Which may not be a bad thing unless GRRM has some type of huge role for one of them.

Euron seems pretty central at this point. Though if the Iron Born get cut, maybe not?

Isn't he only there to get Dany back to Westeros? if that's the case for him, they can just give that to the Martell boy....or Tyrion.

He's been set up as a pretty powerful character and he also has the Dragon Horn. Which at least seems to be a real thing.

ETA: actually Victareon's got the horn I guess.

I don't think they could get to the end of ADWD.

They would need to cover/skip

Iron Born (Kingsmoot + raiding + going to Slaver's Bay)

Arya's training

Sansa + Littlefinger

Bran + Bloodraven

Tyrion + Jorah's ordeal

Brienne's search

Quentin's ordeal

Myrcella + Arianne + the rest of Dorne

Cersei v. Margaery

Jaime v. Riverlands

Rise of the Church

Bolton's v Stannis

Ser Davos' quest/search

Jon leading the Watch + wildlings + betrayal

Dany's rule + betrayal

Sam + Gilly + Aemon

That is quite a bit to cover/skip in only 10 episodes.
