HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (3 Viewers)

Thinking Mance is just dead and Tormund will step in for Mance's character. If that's the direction they go I think it's yet another good change.

Such a well-made show. Couldn't care less about sticking to books, or even spoilers. I'll enjoy the books whenever they come out, and enjoy the show while it's on.

Looking forward to the fighting pits, any chance Strong Belwas makes an appearance?

Every GoT season opener has been underwhelming, as they use it to set the stage for the characters. Not an excuse for the slowness, but that's how they do it. Bit too much exposition. Still feel that it will be a good season, though.

I didn't get that at all. Only just the one murder I think though. I watched the finale from last season and then the opener back to back. Seemed like a nice continuation. The Brienne of Tarth storyline can just go away. Just like the books. Just wasted pages. Nothing like flipping a page and seeing BRIENNE on the top of the next page. Uggg.

Well done in setting the stage. With it, we've eliminated:

Young Griff

All the extraneous players in the North

They're boiling off the water to get better soup.

-Wildlings for Stannis' army instead of random Northern clans works well and takes way less time to explain.

-Mance actually dying is more sensible than a magic switcheroo.

-Jaime going to Dorne is a great way to give him something to do.

-Don't care about the Greyjoys at all, so I'm glad they're not a major focus (at least for this season).

-No clue about what they're doing with Sansa, which is actually quite fun.

They've also radically changed what's happening in the North.

Sansa's apparently heading to Winterfell and Mance is apparently (really) dead, which alters Theon's story line immensely (as well as their own arcs). Not to mention Davos being at the Wall.

Do you guys think the show runners have basically said "screw it" and burned the books? Or are they going to have Sansa/Littlefinger take on some of the Manderly/Mance/"Arya" responsibilites?

To be fair they eliminated Cat/Lady Stark who's chapters may have been even worse.

I'm mostly happy with the departures from the books, but don't understand what's going on with Sansa, Litltlefinger and Sweetrobin. It appears Littlefinger is warding Robin with someone in the Eyrie, right? And he and Sansa are heading "west" - that's all I got out of it. Based on the newly-released advance chapter from the next book, its possible they are cutting out a massive (and very slow-moving) storyline with LF, Sansa and Robin at the Eyrie - probably another wise move.

True, but the fight between her and the hound was a great one.

If they head for the Riverlands isn't there a better chance Sansa will be recognized(even with the dye job)?

Different Actor playing Kevin Lanister? Or have we not seen him on the show before?

Season previews. I don't understand it, either - hence my earlier thoughts/question about if/how she's going to be used to combine other characters.

Where did they leave the Bolton/Theon situation last Season? Just showed them arriving at Winterfell off in the distance IRRC.

Littlefinger going to marry Sansa off to Ramsay Bolton? Or Roose?
Based on some previews/interviews I'm guessing Ramsay. She's probably replacing Jeyne Poole, and Theon gets to "warm her up".
oh #### I remember reading an article that mentioned a really disturbing couple of scenes for Sansa. this may be true..
So no fake arya. A real stark to marry ramsay. Hmmmm. Could very well be. U would think that lf would want sansa for himself though. What does he gain?? Alliance w boltons???

Remember in the books Baelish tells Sansa that he is trying to wed her to "Harry the Heir"...so her getting it on with Bolton would be a huge change

I think he would make it so he had Winterfell and the Eyrie. King in the North?

Dont see how marrying sansa off to boltons make him anything.

Same guy, don't think we have seen him since season 1 or 2. He was shown as one of Tywins generals in their battle planning scenes. Don't recall if they named him outright.

Actually you are right. I was thinking he was related.

Much like the fake arya though. The boltons being married into the stark family would legitimize their claim. And peter could use sansa for some other gain that way.

Littlefinger gains nothing by allying with the Boltons. They'd kick his ### and take his lunch money the second he walked into Winterfell with Sansa. To that, I imagine that Littlefinger is taking on more of the Davos role in regards to the Manderly's; i.e.... stirring up the North to get rid of them.

I guess the long con for him would be to try and become romatically involved with Sansa. while NOT getting rid of Robin. That way, he'd have legitimacy in the North, Eyrie and Riverlands (where I'm assuming he's still Lord Of Harrenhall).

Also, I imagine that you'll see more finality in regards to the Freys if/when the Manderly's get involved. They didn't tell the story of The Rat King on the show for nothing....plus, I imagine Littlefinger has an axe to grind against Walder Frey for Cat's death.

Why would any of you think Littlefinger is going to marry Sansa off to Bolton. Sansa is currently married to Tyrion and no one thinks he's dead.

I feel like I walked into the TV only thread

Sansa is (officially) Littlefinger's ******* daughter. Why would anyone be surprised if he used her that way? He's Lord Paramount over the Riverlands and Regent over the Vale.

I'm glad Young Griff is seemingly eliminated. Being that the show runners know the end game, it tells me that whole storyline is a big waste of time in the books. While there's changes from the books to the show, they aren't going to mess with things that would materially impact the overall ending or story.

I agree doesn't make any sense. Didn't he say he was taking her somewhere safe from Cersie? How is rubbing her into Cersie face that she is now queen of the north keeping her safe from Cersie? Also why would the Boltons want her around? They murdered her mother and brother, how can they feel safe sleeping at night with her around.

What was the Rat King story? I don't recall. It's been so damn long since I paid any attention.
I'm sorry...Rat Cook. Bran told it when there at the wall.....a cook kills the kings sons and serves him to the king in a pie. It was a story that was supposed to condemn the cook for killing a guest under his roof...ala Walder Frey.

Aren't the Frey's Lords over the Riverlands. I thought that Tywin upjumped them?

Yeah, I love all the stuff they're cutting out. RIP Griff and Mance and I assume the whole Mance's baby crap.

I imagine marriages can be annulled, especially when never consummated (and husband sentenced to death and missing)
