This was lame. Selmy is supposed to be an all time bad ### fighter and he gets killed by some nameless extras. Not as dumb as LF dropping Sansa off at Winterfell but pretty terrible. I'm cool with going away from the books but some of these changes don't make a ton of sense

This was lame. Selmy is supposed to be an all time bad ### fighter and he gets killed by some nameless extras. Not as dumb as LF dropping Sansa off at Winterfell but pretty terrible. I'm cool with going away from the books but some of these changes don't make a ton of sense
At the start of the scene it looked like he was going to take out a bunch of Sons of Harpy, but it was just too many. Grey Worm killing the dude before he could slit Selmy's throat makes me wonder if he is really dead - he was stabbed in the chest, and looked dead in the final scene...

My guess is that Grey Worm lives but Selmy is really dead. I guess I'm fine with killing him off as it creates more need for Tyrion/Jorah to return but it just seemed a pretty silly way to kill off one of the supposed best fighters alive (Jamie, Ned, etc all say how great he is). Not to mention he just decides to go for a stroll by himself with no armor in the middle of a rebellion.

Yes, I thought I was going to be kind of miffed when the show passed the books, but I find myself more engaged. Jaime and Bronn are both great characters. This is much better than Jaime reading that book and just kind of taking up copy.

They're not ahead of the books on this, just changing the story. Cersi sent Balon Swann to Dorn in A Feast for Crows. Its been so long I don't remember that storyline very well, but I think Myrcella was kidnapped as part of an anti-Lannister plot of some sort, there was an attempted murder where her face was slashed/disfigured, lost an ear or something and her protector knight guy was killed. I'm not sure where that story stands now, but I expect the Jamie/Bronn trip to Dorn is the television version of Balon Sawnn's mission.

 
Arys Oakheart was the Kingsguard in charge of protecting Myrcella. He got involved with one of the Sand Snakes and they hatched an idiotic scheme to crown Myrcella Queen of Westeros, or something. Arys was killed by Areo Hotah, and Myrcella was maimed by Darkstar.

Balon Swann was on his way down to present to Dorne the head of Gregor Clegane. Sounds like Jaime will be handling this now.

 
I think Jamie's going to get got. Unless Martin has plans for him in regards to handling Cersei in the books......makes sense that Jamie's killed as retribution for Oberyn.

I guess it would really accelerate Cersei's downward spiral if she truly had no family left to help since Kevin turned his back on her.

 
My guess is Bronn buys it in Dorne and Myrecella too. Splits up Cersei and Jaime and puts them at odds. Also expect Cersei is going to off Kevan instead of Varys after this last episode.

 
why do the writers always portray Mace Tyrell as a pathetic idiot sycophant? I never got that characterization from reading the books. I do remember that Olenna Tyrell was calling the shots, but he was still highly regarded and respected wasn't he?

I'm pretty sure she essentially calls him a sperm donor. A likable idiot.
 
Just read through a chronological timeline of events. I have forgotten everything but at this point it doesn't really matter. All I have to do is watch the series.

No, Varys killed Kevan and Buckna suspects HBO will switch it and have Cercei kill Kevan.

Why couldn't it still be Varys? Makes more sense from a plot perspective and he does know his way around ...

Yep. I think Varys & Tyrion get separated in Volantis. Jorah snatches Tyrion and takes him to Mereen, and Varys heads back to Kings Landing to do his ADWD epilogue.

Agree with whoever said Brienne is gonna take the Mance/Abel role and helps save Sansa/Alayne/Jeyne/Arya mash up. I'm not sure how the writers are gonna sell it, but I think that's where they're going.

 
Second episode was way better than the first. Stuck closely to the spirit of the characters, advanced the plot and generally got the tone right. Didn't waste time, and didn't resort to sexposition. I dig it. The changes to several characters' story arcs were pretty refreshing. If they plan to have Ellaria Sand spearheading a plan to avenge Oberyn, with the Sand Snakes as her soldiers, I can definitely dig it. Has the potential to be far more interesting than Arianne Martell's machinations in the books, which never held my interest. As far as Sansa goes, it's logical for both Sansa and Arya to refuse Brienne's assistance, and I'm really curious to see what they do (haven't seen episodes 3/4 yet).

Yes, upon rereading I could have worded it better, but others pointed out what I meant. Depends in how the story goes, but based on the advisors scene, seems more likely Kevan buys it very soon. Based on the world building they've done, would take way too long for Varys to get back.

Have not seen the leaked episodes, dont plan to.

Not a fan of Ellaria Sand, what a whiny #####. Doran should just lop her head off. Like Alexander Siddig, his intoduction was a little weak, but the character seems weak at first until his smarts are slowly revealed.

Pretty much assumed that Jaqen is not in Braavos while Arya is there. It is generally thought he is in Oldtown posing as Pate and doing something in the Citadel.

Yep, but looks like the show is gonna use Jaqen instead of "The Kindly Man" to mentor/train Arya. I think it's a good call from the show, & was a nice surprise for this book reader.

I wonder if they're saving Lady Stoneheart for next season, after they finish Brienne's arc. Martin ended her storyline on a cliffhanger in the book. After offing a few of Littlefinger's knights this week, her storyline looks like it may get interesting. Bet she starts getting attached to Pod, right before he takes an arrow to the chest.

They may change but the TV producers said last season they are eliminating her character from the show

 
I'm OK with the changes from the book but I don't see why they didn't include "Edd, fetch me a block". I think that would have translated well to TV.
