But they haven't had average QB play since Brady moved on. Average QB play would be a significant upgrade over what the Pats have had since then.

But they haven't had average QB play since Brady moved on. Average QB play would be a significant upgrade over what the Pats have had since then.

I would certainly agree with that point...BB the GM has done no favors for BB the HC.

Maybe I missed it but I did not read anything about meeting with the Chargers...right now the only team I know that there has been official contact with is Atlanta...as for where he wants to go a lot depends on what he is looking for...if it is full or close to full control I gotta believe that limits his options...there are other factors like does he want to stay on the East Coast...or maybe it is simply passing Shula and if that is the case maybe teams are not that interested in hiring a short-term HC (he will be 72 in April so how much longer does he have?)...maybe he is looking for an Ownership stake (I have zero to base that on...just throwing it out there)...it's all speculation right now because we really don't know what his ultimate motivation is for his next destination is.

Regarding Atlanta, there are some QB improvements to be had.

Cousins and Mayfield are upcoming free agents. Wilson will be released. Fields and/or Murray may be available in a trade. They could draft Penix, Nix, or McCarthy at 1.8 and add a veteran like Tannehill, Flacco, Brissett, Minshew, or Wentz as a veteran to bridge to the rookie.

All of those options are arguably upgrades over Ridder and Heinecke. The Falcons won 7 games this season with bottom of NFL level QB play and poor coaching. Is one of the options I mentioned above at QB + Belichick enough of an upgrade to add 3+ wins in that division? I think so.

I think that's it. He may be the best coach in the history of the sport, but that's not necessarily going to win over many owners who don't want to deal with him. There may also be a pervasive "sure, but he did it with Brady" mentality.

$15M per year to coach. He is gonna ride it out as long as possible. ATL is an easy gig for him. The press is focused on UGA, ALA, and AUB. And he'd probably do well. QB is the issue, but with the 8th pick he will find someone.

I don't see him as a good fit in DAL, WAS, LV, SEA, or LAC. DAL doesn't even have an open job and probably won't.

ATL CAR or TEN are the easy jobs. Pro football comes in a distance 2nd to college FB.

Yes. It all depends on what you think of Prescott.

I think Dak Prescott is MILES AND MILES better than Mac Jones.

Now, I would have to say from a pure personality angle nothing about Bill fits Atlanta but I don't think he cares a lot about that but he's always struck me as someone who if all things were equal would remain on or near the East Coast but not see those openings now.

Easily the best spot for him (if it becomes open)...the team has a ton of talent on both sides of the ball and he can't screw it up by being involved with the personnel because he won't have the power there (that is the x-factor in all of this...how much does that part matter to him)...all he has to do is go there and get the most out of what they currently have which is a lot on paper...passing Shula should be pretty easy and if he still has his fastball he can compete for a Super Bowl right away which at his age I would think is very appealing...I see division mentioned with Atlanta but if you look at the NFC East both the Giants and Washington are drafting in the top 6 and while Philly is still very talented that is only one team and they have their issues...also, with 7 teams making the playoffs I don't think Dallas is a place where your path to the playoffs is sneaking in with a 9-8 record because no one else in the Division is any good (they were just the #2 seed)...on the flipside BB is probably the right HC for where Dallas is...this team is built to win now but they need to get over the hump and I think he would love to do something big there after watching TB12 leave him and win a title in Tampa.

QB situation in ATL is rough . . . but is DAL considered better? Dak has one year left on his contract and carries a $62 million cap hit. Dallas is currently $16 million over the cap for next season. They have a lot of good players . . . but many of them are due high dollar extensions.

Sure. It has to open. But I think Belichick will be fine with Jones. It's not like Robert Kraft was a silent owner. I don't think anyone who watched the last 6 weeks is worried about the Eagles. The division is there for the taking.

I feel like surpassing Shula on the all-time list is the main goal. Only needs 14 wins (between regular season and playoffs) for that to happen. Should be attainable if he decides to coach Dallas. Regular season wins is a much bigger hill to climb, would need 27 wins to surpass him there. Even if Belichick wins a Super Bowl this coming season, I don't see him retiring right away unless he's also passed Shula's all-time record in the process, which he will have done in theory unless the Cowboys made the playoffs at 9 wins or worse and won the Super Bowl.

I'd push back a little on that, some people just love to work and can't imagine sitting around fishing and/or golfing all day, seems like Belichick could be one of those people. If he takes over a new team and is successful I could see him coaching for a while. Now if he doesn't have success people will say the game has passed him by and will force him out.

On the desirability ranking for a head coach, I think they consider

Current QB situation for Atlanta is rough. And that's huge.

QB situation in ATL is rough . . . but is DAL considered better? Dak has one year left on his contract and carries a $62 million cap hit. Dallas is currently $16 million over the cap for next season. They have a lot of good players . . . but many of them are due high dollar extensions.

I think Dallas QB situation is tons better. Getting the guy is the thing. You figure out the cap.

Their cap is easy to sort out. Give Lamb an extension, convert his $18MM 5th year to a prorated bonus. Do the exact same thing with a 3 or 4 year extension with Dak and convert his $29MM base salary to a prorated bonus. You are easily under right there. They also have some easy roster moves like cutting Gallop or restructuring Martin they could do. Obviously can’t kick the can forever but getting BB would likely be a 2-3 year all-in and rebuild later anyway.

If Dallas is interested it’s gotta be the best spot, especially to overtake Shula.

Dallas is a MUCH more attractive spot for my list of what a coach looks for.

I don't know about that, I kind of view Atlanta as really attractive.

Big draw is the competition. That division is filled with weak/unproven head coaches and QB's.

The roster has some talent would not take much of a QB upgrade to have them as division favorites, maybe even with no Qb upgrade. And Blank seems like a good owner, willing to give you resources and stay in his lane.

Now, I would have to say from a pure personality angle nothing about Bill fits Atlanta but I don't think he cares a lot about that but he's always struck me as someone who if all things were equal would remain on or near the East Coast but not see those openings now.

Washington would fit the East Coast requirement but think they came out and said weren't interested

If he goes to a good team like Dallas, and gets the record but doesn't bring them to the Super Bowl, it's gonna feel empty to me. It's hard to go to a Super Bowl, aside from injuries which are a big part of success in the NFL.

My gut feeling is Bellichick and Jerry Jones has no chance. They are polar opposites n my mind. I think they both know neither could ever work with the other. Jones is not just in the draft room. He surely exerts influence over thing like roster decisions, lineups and schemes. I also think it’s easy to forget that Dallas hasn’t played in a NFCCC game since 1995. They have won a ton of games under McCarthy but that team is not ready for a superbowl run. They are soft. It all starts with Jones and the Hollywood hype circus that comes with him.

I do not understand the appeal of Atlanta for BB
I think he is just interviewing with whoever is reaching out to him and I guess he would like to have the most wins of any Head Coach
Over 70, don't remember Shula ever interviewing anywhere after he was ousted in Miami

Dome, Nice weather city, weak division, solid roster. Its arguably the most attractive opening at the moment.

First thing I thought of. Weak division is a nice thing to have.

To me, ATL is a sneaky likable job. Seems like a young team with talent on both sides of the ball. Maybe a QB away and holding a top-10 draft pick.
