Healthy eating on a budget (1 Viewer)

Solid list.

FYI Kefir is not a good source of protein and is generally overloaded with sugar.
I started drinking it a few months ago for the probiotics because I was having some constipation problems. Npw that I drink it with my high fiber diet I go about 6 times a day. I dont know if thats too much. Im also exceptionally gassy but the farts dont smell at all.
You eat that oatmeal every morning for breakfast and those constipation problems will go right down the toilet.
No pun intended right? LolActually just started buying oatmeal a month ago. I really dont like it but when I was a kid I liked the maple and raisin. I figured it was worth it to buy the real maple syrup for some flavor instead of a bottle of maple flavored HFCS.

Its a real nuisance having to go #2 so often. When im working I may have to mix some immodium in to the oatmeal because I dont want to crap my pants on the road
Good god son, this isn't some laxative. How were you constipated? A cup of oats isn't going to make you go from constipated to crapping yourself. You using milk instead of water? I don't know how people eat oatmeal with water. I like my oatmeal runny and I let the cranberries soak in the oatmeal for over an hour. The cranberries then absorb some of the milk which makes them juicier. Get yourself a nice big bag of cranberries or raisins from you guessed it, costco.
I put a little hot water to soften them up and add maple, raisins and almond milk. I started going to the bathroom a lot months ago when I cut out refined breads. I was having trouble digesting it.Its not like I have diarrhea every day. It just comes out with the slightest push. Like childten shooting out of the tubes at action park
I can picture it now
Remember when you were a kid a kid and you had a play-doh factory? If you put the plastic star shape and pressed the lever really fast and it came out looking like churros?Thats exactly what it looks like

We might not get pics, but MC did say he was going to give us a self portrait in the FBG comics thread. Stay Tuned.

I tried for years to like steel cut oats. Just terrible stuff in my opinion. Oat Bran on the other hand with a little salt, butter and cinnamon is very delicious, and it takes only 2-3 minutes to cook on the stove top.
To each their own. I mix with blueberries, cinnamon, honey we get from our local farmer, and almond slices. Good stuff imo, better than the quick stuff.

Muesli is better. Bob's red mill is too pricey for this thread. But delicious.

I like oat bran too. Im thinking of trying wheat germ. Anyone have experience with this stuff?
I haven't had it in awhile, but used to put it on raisin bran. It was good.

No. No cooking is allowed. I had an electric burner hidden but someone dropped dime and they threatened to throw me out. All we can have is a microwave and coffee maker

Big oatmeal fan. Cup of Quaker Oats, 2 tablespoons of flax seed, handful of Craisins, slice up some apple, sprinkle in some blueberries, cinnamon & salt to taste, Almond milk, top with brown sugar. Keeps me full until lunch most days. Only problem now is with the warmer weather, a hot bowl of oatmeal isn't always what I'm looking for after a morning run. Hard to beat the full feeling and calories though with that much food.

Cook it the night before and keep it in the fridge overnight. All those fruits will be delicious when they soak up some milk.

I prepare it all the night before except the brown sugar part and let it all soak up. It's like paste in the morning, usually have to add some milk. Might try cooking it and eating it cold tomorrow to see how it comes out. Thanks

I would starve with that amount of food - 6' 190 lbs. Do you find yourself not being able to concentrate?
No. I dont have much of an issue. I crave junk food a lot but you have to just ignore it and know its your brain craving extra food and not your body. I get enough protein from the sardines, beans and oats to keep me full, and I smoke a lot (roll my own so its dirt cheap) and that supresses the appetite
Seems to fly in the face of the spirit of the thread, no? What kills you quicker? The lung cancer or diabetes II?
I smoke organic tobacco and I feel that I eat an antioxidant rich diet that will offset the smoking. Natural tobacco instead of that chemical laced crap isnt nearly as bad for you. If I smoke a newport or marlboro I cant breathe but since switching to organic and eating well im in better health than I have been Iin years. My cardiovascular ability improved too.
You seem way too health conscious not to consider e-cigs: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=575866&page=50&hl=vapor#entry15426653

I love them but they are outside my budget right now

I'd be interested to see how this works out for you down the road, like 20-30 years. Not knocking on ya just curious. I smoked 2 packs a day for about 15 years before I finally gave it up. Hoping I've added a few years to the tail end.
Lifelong smokers have roughly a 50% chance of dying from a disease associated with smoking. It cuts about 10 years off life expectancy.
