dickey moe

Fingerpicker
I'm seeing a trend where co-workers (particularly of the Millennial and Gen Z persuasion) are increasingly responding with  emojis when I answer their questions or otherwise do them a solid. Even the dudes. What gives? Am I behind the times? Am I being weird about this?

Except for that lady in HR. I actually love her.
Well I could see where that could get complicated.

"Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, cause I’ve worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time."

I like huggy face 🤗 and vanishing guy 🫥 a lot, and try to incorporate them when communicating in just about any scenario.

What does "vanishing guy" mean? "I'll just see myself out"?

There are many emojis I'd like an explanation for, actually. Gonna go look for a glossary.

One on FBGs I never understood was the toothbrushing smiley :brush:  More broadly, the upside down smiley 🙃 ... . Just means "I'm being silly"?

That's the beauty of ambiguous emojis - meaning can be in the eye of the beholder. But as a middle aged sarcastic dude, people may assume I'm being clever, or just ignorant. Either outcome is OK with me.

Per emojipedia:
An established comic book trope, dotted lines around a character can represent someone that is invisible or hidden. It can also represent smallness, submissiveness, isolation, and depression.
Or emojis wiki
The 🫥 “Dotted line face” emoji is featured in the 2021 version of Unicode. The smiley face with a straight line mouth and dotted eyes depicts an emotionless face, reminiscent of 😐 “Neutral face”emoji. But it differs in the presence of a dotted outline, and on some platforms – a muted yellow, almost transparent color of the emoji itself.

The “Dotted line face” emoji signifies invisibility, secrecy and insecurity, which allows you to express a number of complex feelings not previously represented. In particular, introversion, secrecy and loneliness. This emoji also describes feelings such as devastation or being dumbfounded.

Use the 🫥 “Dotted line face” emoji to tell your best friend about the strange ending of 💑 your date. For example, when the meeting went great, but the partner disappeared and didn’t return your 📳 Phone calls.

Complain to your loved ones about the most intimate psycho-emotional state you are in. Tell them that you are depressed or feeling 💔🫥 devastated. In combination with the emoji 🙅‍♀️ “Woman gesturing no” and 🙍‍♀️ “Woman frowning” let them know that you want to hide from prying 👀 Eyes and stay by yourself.

Or share with new acquaintances that you are a modest person, a wallflower or an introvert who prefers to remain 🫥 invisible in company.

The 🫥 “Dotted line face” emoji also describes something uncompleted or just started. It can be a project in the planning phase, a stalled 🛠 Renovation or an unfinished 🏢 Building.

Interesting fact: Dotted lines around a light-colored drawing is a common way to depict an invisible character or something that doesn’t exist. It was especially common for artists creating manga and comics. The same technique was used by the authors of the 🫥 “Dotted line face” emoji.
And upside down smiley usually means silliness/joking

not acceptable in the workplace
In both Outlook and Teams there is the option of liking or loving an email or message. Multiple times a day I give or get a heart as a response to a message and there is absolutely nothing weird or unacceptable about it.
Same. Although I'd contend it's more of a thing with folks in their 20s/30s, whereas us in our 40s/50s tend to do the thumbs-up more.

I got 1 from a guy I work with and I told him it made me uncomfortable, so he sent me hearteyescat instead, which was much better. Also got one from a lady from work and kind of have the @Keerock crush thing going on, and I cherish that one forever, just like desert_power’s.
