"Helix" from SyFy: Debuts January 10 (1 Viewer)

saw the finale and it re-affirmed my decision to abandon ship

disappointing because it had potential....

This has to be one of the worst shows I've ever made it through a full season of....
What was the potential of this show over multiple seasons taking place predominantly in an arctic research station with Ilaria constantly knocking on the door?
Most had to be aware that you can't spend multiple seasons in that setting...
Correct. Rove didn't want it to go global though, from another post he made. I'm just wondering what all this potential is he keeps mentioning. I would not be surprised to see an improvement in season 2 and we look back on season 1 as a mini train wreck at times that still set some things in motion and put some foundation in place. Or the show will just continue to be what it is and just be a time waster for some of us in the dead winter.

So I'm watching a new series on Syfy called Z nation. Good show about zombies, and i thought it was going to steal the thunder from Helix because it seems like what Helix should have been. But they just showed a preview for the new season so i guess Helix will continue. Only caught a little bit of the preview but they are definitely around the world now

So... I really dug this show initially. Then it started getting weird towards the end. Really unsure how they can do this over several seasons, but I'm going to give S2 a chance.

The whole, "Scythe is this bloodthirsty assassin who has honed his craft for 400 years, can silently kidnap someone from an elevator, but gets taken out by a scientist yelling and charging from 20 feet away by a simple shoulder block takedown was... okay, whatever."

Seems like the writing over the last 4 episodes or so wasn't nearly as good as the initial 8.

Then the final scene with ex-wife seemingly leading the Ilaria corporation after being kidnapped was odd. Not to mention that S2 seems to all about Peter Farragut who ended up being Ilaria's inside man the entire time.

I guess I'll wait and see.

Started watching the first season on Netflix...only a few episodes in, so skipping most of the thread until I get caught up. I like the concept, but not sure yet if the show delivers. A bit much running around in the air vents, and it seems like the show thrives (so far) on obviously "suspense/shock moments". Hoping that goes away as it goes on, but we'll see.

Watched the season 2 premier this weekend. Not bad! Interested to see where they go with it.

Also recorded the 12 Monkeys pilot, but haven't watched it yet.

:blackdot:

Just started this on netflix.. 6 episodes in and really enjoying it.

does anybody watch this show anymore. I think this season blows, for the life of me i don't understand the transition from season 1 to this season. Could have been much better if they just showed the outbreak of the original virus.

Z Nation is 20 times better then this crap now

It has gone a bit too lostish, like they are making it up episode by episode.

stopped watching after samurai sam's house of fun.

Geez, this show went off the deep end and next week seems even worse. I don't think I will watch anymore past this season if it does make it past this season. It went from a cool drama last season where you were trying to figure things out to a how do we shock people every week even if it makes no sense any more.

Yeah, I'm getting a little tired of team members disappearing for days and no one seems to care. Like Peter being trapped in the hole for days and no one seemed to have a sense of urgency to find him - the others just went on doing their work. Seems a little far-fetched that team members wouldn't be dropping everything and trying to find him.

And the whole baby-in-a-bottle story line has really kind of turned me off.

Yeah, the baby is ridiculous. Trying to use a letter opener when no one is in the room? If you really want to get it out, freaking get it open. There is no one guarding them at all, get the damn thing open. Also, the transition of Julia to Ilaria shill that will give Amy immortality and kill the baby never made sense to me.

Yep. Disappointed how this season progressed so far.

I binge watched season 1 a few weeks back.

I could tell I would have no interest in a follow up season. I darn near didn't even watch the rest of season 1 because it was becoming so ridiculous. How many times can people get caught in a lie, then reveal just a slight bit more truth where people trust them again, and then recycle that pattern?

It started with a lot of promise I thought, then just spiraled out of control like the writers/producers had a super fast approaching deadline they weren't ready for.

From a few posts here, sounds like season 2 is awful

Yeah, if you didn't like it at all, don't bother with season 2. It reminds me of American Horror Story. I liked season 1, got lost in season 2's "shock and awe" and stopped watching after 4 or 5 episodes. I tried season 3 for a bit and again couldn't make it past the early episodes and never watched a second of the last season. If Helix has a 3rd season, I may watch a couple just to see if they get back to the good parts of season 1, but based on where we are, I doubt there will be a season 3 or that season 3 will be good.

it looks like this season isn't doing so well, might be the last:

http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/syfy-tv-show-ratings-updated-33879/

i think there is a few things that have hurt the show. personal pet peeve is how they morph characters that they have to show off like how Peter is this undercover sleuth. biggest comparison i can think of was that Falling Skies where that history teacher seemed to have to be in every scene and was a master of all trades

They have jumped around too much this season. I can see why people have lost interest. It plays like a completely different show.

Yep and characters are completely different, so much that I barely remember their names. Peter's brother the last scene? I know he was a little jealous of his big bro, but slicing girls necks in that underground birthing chamber? Or Julia, who watched her step brother die and had to fight Ilaria is working with them and is willing to sacrifice her friend's baby? Or even Julia's dad going effing nuts and trying to embalm Julia and having his dead wife and son at the dinner table? WTF was that? It is hard to follow a show and enjoy it when so many people are so completely different.

I really do liken it to American Horror Story where I actually liked the first season because it was different and pretty well done. After that, it was more about shock value, i.e. topping the previous season with more gore/nastiness/crazy characters and the story and shows fell apart because of that.

Man this season has not been good, but hoping something will make it worth the trip.

I doubt this will be back next season.

I'll probably watch again next year, but it certainly lost the luster from the first season. Also, I've already got two seasons invested in it so i'm probably in it for the long haul now although it's getting really ridiculous.

While this season was not that good, the ending was awesome.
I didn't like the ending, mainly because it couldn't figure out wtf happened. How did Peter get out with the mother root when the helicopter just landed and he went I for the baby? Heck, why in the world would they have taken him. He killed tons of people including the coast guard crew and shot at the first helicopter. Anyway, the whole scene in the hospital was all over the place. It was just like the rest of the season where characters did complete 180s on their personalities within minutes. Not sure if I'll watch another season if they even make it.ETA: At least my theory that Sorin was Julia's friend which I told my son about ended up correct. Also, it was obvious when Sarah went in to Alan's room that he'd end up immortal.

Is it coming back next year? It's been pretty bad. Unless it has been announced already I highly doubt it gets renewed.

Well, I was assuming, I guess. I have no idea if it's been renewed or not.

Frankly, I hope not because that would mean I won't be obligated to watch it anymore. There are just way too many unbelievable (even for sci-fi) moments and characters doing ridiculous things in order to move the story along.

I agree, I'd almost rather just watch a different show. I am pretty sure I posted this earlier, but this season reminded me of American Horror Story. I liked the first season (more than Helix season 1) and I couldn't even make it halfway through season 2. I at least finished Helix season 2, but based on AHS season 3, which I gave a chance, I have very low hopes even if it comes back.

It hasn't been renewed for season 3 yet. But with Alan, Sarah and Julia all immortal now, they really can do a time jump into the future for the next season.

Canceled!

http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/helix-tv-show-cancelled-by-syfy-no-season-three-36378/

Don’t look for a third season of Helix on Syfy. The cable channel has cancelled the thriller series after two seasons and 26 episodes.

Helix follows a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to the Arctic. They find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that could decide the future of humankind. The cast includes Billy Campbell, Kyra Zagorsky, Mark Ghanimé, Jordan Hayes, Neil Napier, Matt Long, Steven Weber, Jim Thorburn, and Christina Rosato.

The series debuted in January of 2014 and drew positive numbers for the cable channel. The first season ended up averaging a 0.45 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.39 million viewers.

Syfy renewed it for a second season but the somewhere along the line, lots of viewers seem to have lost interest. The start of season two was down by more than 45% when compared to the series launch.

The numbers got worse as the season progressed and the 13 episodes ended up averaging a 0.17 rating with 560,000 viewers — a season-to-season decline of 60%.

The season (now series) finale aired on April 10th.

Shocking based on the comments in this thread that viewers lost interest as this season progressed.
