Can someone explain how Larry Johnson is #2 on the KC depth chart for the last 6 months, yet Blaylock is starting?
AFAIK, Larry Johnson was never #2 on the depth charts.
Not true!He has been #2 for a long time now.
RB Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson, Derrick Blaylock, Jonathan Smith, Ronnie Cruz
In fact, I used the FBG depth chart at my draft at the end of August and Larry Johnson was listed ahead of Blaylock. As he had been all preseason. And out of curiosity, what does AFAIK mean?
FBG's depth chart isn't the official and end all of depth charts. From the official Chiefs website:

LJ is #3
BUT, on Ourlads, LJ is #2

In light of all that darkness, it was hardly surprising to hear second-year back Larry Johnson, still unhappy about not moving ahead of Derrick Blaylock as Holmes' backup, going off on coach **** Vermeil after the coach let his mouth race ahead of his brain in suggesting that Johnson should "take your diapers off and go to work."

In the wake of Holmes’ hip injury in 2002, the Chiefs made running back Larry Johnson a first-round pick in 2003. But he’s still a work in progress and the Chiefs will turn to Derrick Blaylock if Holmes can’t go.
Then you have what the headcoach says:

Q: If Priest can’t play will Derrick (Blaylock) start?
VERMEIL: “Derrick will start and Larry will play. We’re preparing Larry to play and I told Larry on the field today, ‘get your butt ready to play.’ It’s not fair in some way if Larry has to go because it’s a different kind of scheme. It’s a ‘30’ defensive scheme with four linebackers and three down linemen. It’s tough running an inexperienced player to get ready to play. Not run, but for pass protection purposes and the schemes we use in pass protection. I just asked him to put some pressure on himself.”
Looks like Blaylock at least is the #2 for this game, but that doesn't mean he will or he won't get the majority of the carries. Looks like he'll start if Priest can't go. Also, judging by Vermiel's comments, LJ isn't exprienced enough with the offense (mostly pass protection) to justify playing a lot.
