Holt. Where do you draft him... if at all. (1 Viewer)

Curious where people have been taking him. I decided to gamble on him last night as my #2 WR (behind Owens) at 4.6 in a 10 team league. He was the 10th WR selected... and I could have taken guys like Housh, Evans, Boldin, or Moss instead.

I have 2 more upcoming drafts and would like to hear some people's opinions on this.

His admission is downright scary.... but are people overblowing it?

Where exactly would you rank him?

overblown IMO - he will finish top 10 and now he is being drafted at a serious discount. Good buy - especially if he drops more!

I got him at 3.10 in a 12 teamer (10th WR). Thought I got a steal, and then saw the reports break that night. I'm concerned, becasue the same thing with my 3rd rounder last year called Dominik Davis. Just sounds like the same situation.

Had to scramble the rest of the draft for WR. Maybe I panicked, but got Colston, Branch, Brandon Jones, and T Williamson. RB depth should net me a trade if Holt doesn't come back.

Domanick davis was a RB and I don't believe he played in the pre-season and practiced through training camp

He went 3.02 in my 12-team PPR league last night; thought it was a little early given some of the other WRs still on the board (including Roy Williams, Reggie Wayne and Lee Evans, two of which I grabbed in the 3rd and 4th rounds :hophead: ).

Linehan's offense had me project Holt as the #1 WR last year and I drafted him accordingly. Looked good through 7 games but IMO that's when his knee started bothering him and he did very little thereafter (2 TDs last 10g). The knee really scares me to the point where I probably won't draft him. I'd have to consider him at 3.10 but I don't know if I could pull the trigger.

He did lead the league in targets last year (179) and will keep getting them as long as he's in the lineup.

Not to hijack, but with all this Holt dropping hysteria, I haven't seen much downgrade of Garcia.

If Holt underperforms, what will we see from Garcia? Seems like the Rams added weapons, so maybe that evens out.

Any thoughts?

I think you spelled Bulger wrong...

I want to stay away from Holt all together , and I would definetly not have him as my WR1.

Were he is being drafted is not going to give you a great upside if he is able to play a full season. He was bad at the end of last season, not sure if he could perform above Roy W , Wayne or Housh even if healthy.

If he is being drafted outside the top 10 of WRs I dont see how you cant pick him - well worth the risk at that point! Peoplw are acting like the guy is out 7 weeks - he has been playing on it and practicing. Drop him a few slots if you'd like but this is turning into mass hysteria. Maybe I'll get him for pennies on the dollar in my auction draft next week.

This is great point, I think you need to downgrade Garcia because the games he plays against Holt will probably be lower scoring games now so they will rely more on the run..

Whats the news on Holt? I think I missed it....
Knee surgery. Recovering slowly. 70% by his own admission a couple weeks ago. I drafted him Aug 5th before the news took such a sorry turn. I took him as WR4 with both Colts and Fitz on the board. I have terrible buyer's remorse. Hopefully he's doing everything right to get right.

I had kept Holt the two previous seasons in a 2 keeper league, but let him go this year due to the injury factor and the additions of Bennett and McMichael. I did not look to redraft him this year either b/c you would have to use an early pick to get him. He'll probably go out and have a career year now.

I wouldn't drop him anymore than a few slots. Its still Holt after all. Since he's practicing and doing ok I think he should be fine. I don't have him on any of my teams but I wouldn't mind it. I think that people are making too big of a deal out of this. Mid to late 3rd is prolly where I'd get him. Any place after that is a total steal and you should pounce.

3rd round sounds good. I'll take him as the 7-10th WR off the board. I've definitely bumped him out of my top5 though. He's a gamble, but not as big of a gamble as Randy Moss or even Lee Evans IMO.

I wonder how this is going to affect Bulger. The Rams Offense has looked poor throughout the preseason. Im afraid their passing game will slowly regress as SJAX carries more and more of the load on offense. Id be very wary of Bulger this year.

I gladly took him as the 10th WR taken in my PPR league. Smith, Chad Johnson, Wayne, Harrison, Fitzgerald, Housh, Roy Williams, Colston and TO all went before him. I added Bruce as a WR4 later in the draft in the case that if Holt is out for any period of time, Bruce would figure to get an uptick in targets and could be a reasonable WR2.

12 team non-ppr he went 3.01. 7th off the board. I would have taken him on the wayback at 3.03 had he fallen to me. I ended up with R.wayne and L.Fitz

I think you got saved from yourself on that one. I would take either of those 2 over Holt right now myself. Way too much uncertainty surrounding Holt right now. If he said he was seeing improvements, it would be different, but he is saying that the healing is going very slowly. To still be at 70% at this point is scary. I see many "questionable" weeks ahead for the Holt owners. Not somehting I would want from my WR1.

I would draft him AFTER I already have a WR1, and no earlier than third. I don't want to worry about my WR1 all year and whether he will play or not.

No way I take Fitz over Holt.
All else being equal, I would agree with you 100%. A knee injury that is not healing would be reason enough for me to pass on Holt as a WR1 and not look back. I will not argue that Fitz is a better selection if Holt is healthy, but I never like to see "questionable" next to my stud WRs name on a Friday. I think that is what you are going to get with Holt this season. 16 games of NFL football is probably not the best prescription one can get for a knee that is at worst case degenerative, and at best case just healing very slowly.

I'm more concerned with the state of the Rams O'line. Yes Torry hurt his knee, but the entire passing offense sputtered during the 2nd half of the season last year when Pace went down. They then leaned heavily on SJax to make up for it. The Rams went thru 9 different players on o'line last year so as long as the starters stay healthy, Bulger and Holt will get their numbers.

With Holt being a big "?", how do people feel about IBruce being a good value pick? The FBG podcast guys were very high on Bruce producing above his ADP this year, despite his age.

Auction league, I have him as my WR2 behind Ocho Cinco. I'll take Holt as my WR2 @ 70-80% over many WR2's any day.

Yes, I do see Bruce as great value. I got him as my WR4. I took Holt in the 3rd and then Lee Evans in the 4th. Now if Holt goes down, obviously Bruce's targets go up and he's all of a sudden a very decent WR2.

Drew Bennett may stand to benefit even more than Bruce, and he is not nearly as close to getting into the movies at half price after the 4:30 early bird.

Agreed, if Holt doesn't suit up. If Holt is on the field at 70% -> Bruce gets the passes Holt can't get open for?

WR10 sounds about right to me. I don't see how you could take him over Wayne or Fitz. I could justify taking him anywhere from WR8-13, depending upon the amount of risk you're willing to take and you thoughts of the other guys in that range.

Last night I had 2 picks in the 3rd round....I passed on Holt and selected L.Fitzgerald at 3.4, Then Holt was selected 1 pick before me at 3.7. I then took TJ Houzamomma.

I think I would have still passed on Holt.

This thread must be a giant hangover....first Garcia QBing the Rams, then this....

Huh.... you agree to the Bennett benefactor take, then reply that Bruce will get the looks.
Let's follow this again, without editing out the logic to suit yourself. IF Holt sits, Bennett might get more time on the field and more balls. IF Holt does NOT sit, then Bruce might get more balls his way when Holt is covered. And ... by the way, it was not a statement, it was a question. Notice the question mark? :lmao:

Holt was taken very early in my draft (2.06) and I believe that he just won't be putting up his usual numbers for three reasons:

The additions of McMichael and Bennett - big and tall targets that will be red-zone options for Bulger.

The emergence of S. Jackson as a Faulk-like receiver.

Injury concerns, off-season surgery.

I predict 85 catches, 1,100 yards, 8 TDs.

I think Holt is playing a rope-a-dope and will be fine. That's why I would've taken him over Fitzy. Even if Holt was 100%, I'm still taking reggie wayne because I think P.Manning might put up 40+ TDs this year and those have to go to someone(harrison was gone).

FWIW, I stayed away from Torry Holt in all leagues this year. A knee injury that won't fully go away is a problem no matter how you look at it. In avoiding Holt, I have targeted Bruce and don't sell Drew Bennett short either. Total flier being Dane Looker as he may be a very good possession-type WR.

STL WR corps as of right now

1a. Holt

1b S. Jackson

2. Bruce

3. Bennett

4. Looker

5. Dante Hall

If Holt cannot go or is hampered to a point where he is used more as a decoy, things could get interesting for the STL passing game.
