Honeycrisp Apples (1 Viewer)

Coincidentally, I finished off a Sweetango about 10 minutes ago. I have never tasted an apple that good. My son lives in Door County, WI and brought us a bag of them earlier this week.

 
Suck it.

These are damn good. I took a few bites out of a honeycrisp and threw the rest of it away. Just because I can.

:wub: There's a stand at the farmer's market near me, and I've been re-stocking each week. I love the month of two that they're in-season every year. The thought of a red delicious makes my stomach turn now.

Really? I tried these Honey Crisps a little while back and I thought the Red Delicious were better.

Really? I tried these Honey Crisps a little while back and I thought the Red Delicious were better.

I'm eating a honey crisp right now, and I could take a dump on it, and it would still taste better than a red delicious. Ok, that might be hyperbole, but there's a huge gap in taste and texture. I love my apples to be at bit tart and acidic, with a very crisp texture. Red delicious are much milder in flavor, and a lot of them I've had are mushy and or mealy in texture.

That's where we differ. I don't want a tart apple. I like the sweetness, but not over powering sweetness of a red delicious. I haven't encountered any of your mushy or mealy situations unless the apples were old.
 
Working on a referendum now to strongly advise all growers of non-honeycrisp apples to admit defeat, rip up their inferior trees, and plant the good stuff.

Not sure if you make it down to Bakersfield much, but the Costco on Rosedale Highway has 12 Honeycrisp apples for 9.99.
 
The U of MN can't win a football game but ####### it they sure can develop an amazing apple.

I'm looking forward to trying my first SweeTango on Monday, that is if I can find an orchard that still has a few left.

Has anyone tried a Zestar! yet?

I think this explains some of the negative remarks here regarding the honeycrisp. Not orchards are equal.

 
Eating my first fresh locally grown honeycrisp of the season. It really is insane how much better than a store-bought apple this is. :thumbup:

Wife also picked up 50lbs of peaches for $15 while at the orchard. They're seconds with hail damage, but perfect for canning. :excited:

 
I planted a honeycrisp apple tree in my front year a couple months back. Damn squirrels ate the dozen or so apples that were on there, but man, am I ready for the next few years of chowing down on many, many honeycrisps.

Zestars are delicious, but kind of fragile. They went soft really quick in my apartment. I find Honeycrisps a little too sweet and not tart enough for my liking. It's a personal preference. My wife loves them. My personal favorite apples this summer have been Ginger Golds.

It's honeycrisp season!btw- while I was in cold-turkey mode with the rest of the addicts, I discovered Cameos (word up).... very nice.

 
FYI for anyone that would not know...ALL organic produce PLUs start with a 9 and are 5 digits long, normal produce starts with a 4 and is 4 digits long.

Yes, I'm pretty sure my Whole Foods gets produce from a lot of the same farms that I frequent at farmer's markets. Don't harsh my buzz.

 
Are they distributing organic Honeycrisp anywhere? I would prefer those to the regular but am not holding out hope that I will find any down here.

Hey MOP, is Whole Foods carrying the Honeycrisp yet down in Miami (is all produce at Whole Foods organic)? I haven't seen them at my local (Milam's in the Grove) yet or the Fresh Market on Bayshore. Keeping an eye out for them and am hoping to start seeing them soon. I have been holding over with some Organic Cripp's Pink but they're just not the same as Honeycrisp.
