Yeah, I don't think AA sponsors are beholden to any sort of confidentiality oath like a doctor or lawyer.
My brother has been in AA for 20 years.
A couple of years ago he asked me "Hey, do you know [name removed] the UFC fighter?" I told him I did. My brother does not follow MMA at all so it was a little strange. Then he tells me "I know that guy's dad."
I asked my brother "How do you know his dad?"
My brother says "Ummm...well...I met him at a gathering where there was no alcohol served."
Years ago, I saw a 30-something nun ("sister") at my church before the start of a funeral for an elderly man that had died. At the time, the sister worked at the same Catholic university where I work. I was puzzled and asked how she knew good ol' Bob. She mumbled something about being in some group together. During the funeral ceremony, I learned that Bob had been an alcoholic and spent many years in AA. Oh....
that group. The sister wasn't at our university for very long ...never did hear what happened to her.
