House of the dragon. Game on! (2 Viewers)

Was kinda surprised Daemond didn't go all Fire and Blood on those whining lords.
It would be nice to see him do something this season. Feel like he's just a throwaway at this point. the freaky LSD trip every episode is getting old.
I don't really get what they are doing here. As I understand, this whole Harrenhall thing so far is going differently than the book. It is like they are trying to tone down anything cool about him.
Daemon is finding his conscience. He saw himself as Aemond because he realizes that Aemond is a monster; which was kind of proven right when he torched his brother. I've just thought the past few weeks his him realizing he needs to be loyal to one of the only people on the planet who geniuinely seemed to love him.
Good theory, but not sure that is what they are doing.

I don't see if there's any other way to give us a legit hero. They've set Aemond up as the "big bad" with Cole running a close second. Rhaenyra is dead. Rhaenyras isn't a fighter. Unless they're bringing in a character we haven't seen yet; Daemon has to take a legit heroes journey that starts with him realizing he's been a D-Bag to his family.
Ahh, the Jamie Lannister plan. Which means Daemon gets to turn heel in the last episode of the series as the writers ball up and throw away multiple seasons of good will while they pull out the rug from the audience in their sprint to the finish.

Blonde dude protecting his family is about to be one of their dragon riders to rival Aemond/Vhaghar. The Stark King as well seems like someone to root for, but he hasn't had any screen time. That's something we all loved about early Game of Thrones. Even the best characters only had a few minutes per episode and there were so many. This seems much more condensed and has the slow burn but lacks the development.

And completely ignore the witch's prophecy that Cersei would be killed by her brother - which she always assumed would be Tyrion and really was a constant drive for Cersie's actions so the irony of it being Jamie (in some heroic moment) would have been great. But, alas, falling rocks...

God, I so wish we could erase that last season of GoTs and have it be rewritten.

agree they really should have put more thought into the character names. seems lazy
They?
Yeah aren't all the names from Martin/his books?

I hate them personally and find it so stupid how they are so close to one another, but I can't really blame the showrunners for using the correct names from the books.
I will say it definitely helps to always have subtitles on.

Feel like they've included his one scene on every "previously on dragon show" snippet. And I keep waiting for him to show up.

I will say I like the steward of Hannehal (or wherever Daemon is currently getting haunted). Wish we get more of him

So Daemond to you is like comparable to the Jamie Lannister arc?

I can't stand Daemond so if he's going to be the end "hero," this show has some work to do with that.

I think right now he's an ***. But I imagine what will happen is that he'll have enough visions to realize that he needs to support her; not be so petulant and give up on his goals of being King.....and then be a good and loyal soldier to her.

I can’t stand the names but they are what we’ve got. The doubling down of the similar names (like Daemon vs aemonD and Rhaenyra and Rhaenys) is the fact that girls marry their brothers and uncles.

For sure - and FWIW I get why Martin did it.

It's just a ***** for tracking the characters and then trying to talk about them on a forum.

Makes sense.

I think the only reason I disagree with you is because then the overwhelming majority should favor the Blacks over the Greens and my understanding of the tragedy is that it's a civil war type family implosion where nobody wins. I haven't read the books though so, if I'm wrong, please don't say.

I haven't read the books. I'm just kind of looking for someone to root for on the battlefield and since she doesn't seem to be able to do it; he's the next logical candidate....because I do they are sympathetic to the Blacks on the show. VIserys was really the only character I sympathized with and liked the best.....and he ain't coming back.

I do like Jase (or however you spell his name). I can see rooting for him. I also personally like Otto Hightower in the same way characters like Varys and Littlefinger were fun in GoT.

Agreed that the Blacks were more sympathetic on the show - which I don't believe was the intention.

Jace and Daemond's daughters are pretty blameless in all of this so far at least.

I think the youngsters on Team Black have potential; we did see Jace start to fill the statesman void on his side. I could see him being the Jon Snow. I think the big problem though was laid out by Cole; (paraphrasing) "with dragons on the field of battle...nothing else matters". Jace's dragon isn't that big.

Varys was actually a redeemable character in GoT. He saw how off the rails the Lannisters were and by the end he was definitely on the right side.

Who the heck are the parents in town with the sick child?

I think you'll get an answer to that next episode.
So there has been no backstory? That is unsatisfying.
Believe he’s part Targaryen and one of the future potential dragon riders of the unclaimed dragons. Guessing he does it because of his sick child.
I haven't read the books and this is all speculation on my part, but that was my assumption as well.

So there's what 4 potential bastards of Valaryian/Targaryan stock that we've seen? The guy who saved Corlys and that guys brother....the guy with the sick kid....and (I'm assuming) the braggard in the bar the night King Aegon came in?
Laenor is still out there somewhere too.

Wonder if the realization the she was talking to Corlys’ ******* son ultimately led Rhaenys to sacrificing herself and her dragon.

I didn’t think about that on the first viewing, but that’s the stuff you pick up on subsequently.

Well, you know the episode was largely another snoozer when there’s not a single post about it.

Also, I’m sure we’ll find out for sure next episode but how was the black sea guy (brother of guy that saved the husband of the princess lady that died when on her dragon) able to ride SeaSmoke?

He doesn’t have Targaryen blood, does he? Even if he was a ******* child of the guy with grey dreds, that guy had no Targaryen blood (only married into it).

Who was his mama?

Yeah i thought that was strange too. They've made it pretty clear that while the Valeryons are a pretty ancient Valerian house, they can not ride dragons.

So not sure why this guy can.

Liked the scene where the knight that was 1/16th Targ tried to ride the dragon. Seasmoke bends down to (seemingly) let him on and everyone is "Holy crap...this is actually gonna work". Then he spends 30 seconds tip-toeing over to him and Seasmoke is like "nah....F this coward" As a whole, all the stuff with the dragon pit, the people that train them and that whole history is pretty interesting. More of that and less of Daemon's fever dreams.

Curious to see which wild dragon has been ranging up in the Vale. Guessing its probably Sheepstealer based on the scene they showed.

Yeah, has to be Sheepstealer. Rhaena’s like ……..hmmmm, you say there’s an unclaimed dragon in the area?

Now that I'm thinking about it....I'm guessing that Seasmoke simply picked Corly's ******* son because he could sense that he shared blood with his former rider, Laenor (who everyone thinks is dead). They're obviously half-brothers. (albeit not the Targ half)

I think in the books they're called "Dragonseed" - bastards with roots in Driftmark from a time when the Targs were more or less banging anyone and everyone, spreading their dna far and wide. It might help if they gave this guy one of the comically fake white dreadlock wigs they've given Corlys and the other Velaryons.

I’m getting tired of Daemon’s hallucinations/dreams. Quit dillydallying around and chopping wood and get back to your home base with your dragon, dummy. They need you.

Its annoying and seems pointless. I'm not sure the purpose of spending so much time with him moping about Harrenhall but I guess the whole Riverlands thing is pretty important to the current plot. The Stark army is moving south and the Blacks are trying to secure the Tullys, the Freys and the Eyrie armies.

I read an interview a while back with one of the actors or writers who said this season will have two big-budget movie-like battles. We've seen one a couple weeks ago. I thought the second might be Daemon v Aemon at Harrenhall to end the season. They're heavily foreshadowing it, but I don't think they'll get there this season. I think that will now likely come in Season 3, with the big remaining scene in Season 2 being the battle in King's Landing.

At its peak, this is exactly what GOT was. One, maybe two action scenes a season.

Maybe I'm misremembering but it sure seemed like GOT had something going on in most episodes and moved the story along at a better clip than watching episode after episode of Daemon dreams.

There were so many characters in GOT that early on each one got only a few minutes of screen time per episode and some none at all.

I think it’s gotten so predictable. We all know they give us some cheese early and the last two episodes. You really gotta work those pens for episodes 3-7 and it’s been shaky at best.

I didn't see Rhaenyra and the White Worm making out coming so that was a nice surprise.

Pivotal to the story.
