House of the dragon. Game on! (1 Viewer)

What the deal with Hugh, the bearded guy with the sick kid? He keeps getting minutes but did they connect him to anything other than him building weapons for the king for free?
He claimed to be of Targaryen blood in the bar prior to Aegon walking in. Speculation is he will be on dragonback in short order.
Was that the same guy?
I thought it was a different guy too. Think he was in the last episode listening to Aemond’s cuddle buddy complain about the Greens in the bar.
Same guy. They definitely tightened up his look though in these last episodes. If you google Hugh Hammer you may get more information than you’d like.
There’s another character named Ulf

If they follow the book it’s Ulf White, Hugh Hammer, and the guy we already know about - Addam

Also, I’m sure we’ll find out for sure next episode but how was the black sea guy (brother of guy that saved the husband of the princess lady that died when on her dragon) able to ride SeaSmoke?

He doesn’t have Targaryen blood, does he? Even if he was a ******* child of the guy with grey dreds, that guy had no Targaryen blood (only married into it).

Yeah i thought that was strange too. They've made it pretty clear that while the Valeryons are a pretty ancient Valerian house, they can not ride dragons.

So not sure why this guy can.

Liked the scene where the knight that was 1/16th Targ tried to ride the dragon. Seasmoke bends down to (seemingly) let him on and everyone is "Holy crap...this is actually gonna work". Then he spends 30 seconds tip-toeing over to him and Seasmoke is like "nah....F this coward" As a whole, all the stuff with the dragon pit, the people that train them and that whole history is pretty interesting. More of that and less of Daemon's fever dreams.

Curious to see which wild dragon has been ranging up in the Vale. Guessing its probably Sheepstealer based on the scene they showed.

Why couldn't they? The Targs were just one family of dragon riders from Valaria.

Speaking of Valaria, is that still a decimated by that plague or whatever in this time period? Or, is this prior to that time? If so, I'd really like to see some scenes there.

It's decimated, reason Targarians came to Westeros in the first place is cause they foresaw the doom and escaped with their dragons.

Oh, gotcha. Thanks!

Great episode.

I’m a little lost on one storyline though. So you know the young, black girl with grey hair who went to the other queens castle who had the smaller dragons? What's that all about? The queen was complaining about the dragons being too small and of no use to her but then there really was a bigger dragon there or something. Can someone explain that whole situation? What’s going on there?

Rhaenyra promised lady arryn "a dragon" with the understanding that it would help defend her land and castle.....in exchange for pledging her army to the blacks.

But Rhaenyra kinda negotiated in bad faith knowing that she would only send useless (for now) baby dragons.

But last week showed us that there is a wild adult dragon in the area (feeding on their sheep) that Rhaena could claim

It’s like the three-headed dragon meme (two mean looking heads and one silly looking one), but for this show it’s the new dragon riders.

The handsome/cool milli vanilli-looking rider standing up for the honor of the low born.

The strong/valiant Thor-looking rider trying to reclaim the glory his mother saw for him but that he walked away from.

The goofy/drunk rider doing barrel rolls and buzzing the King’s Landing tower Top Gun style and laughing his butt off.

End scene was a little underwhelming to me. I’m assuming they lured Aemond only to show him their dragon strength now. Thought they were setting an ambush with the new dragons, especially the big one.

I hope the finale has some action. Just killing off all the white hairs doesn’t count. There’s been a lot of setup happening in the last few episodes, most of it pretty telegraphed for weeks.

I loved episode 7 but was expecting a battle. We'll see what episode 8 delivers.

On the one hand, it seems like we're in the golden age of fantastic television production. On the other, this trend of 8-episode seasons followed by an 18 month break is awful.
I just jumped back into this program this weekend, and yeah I could have done without the extended break. I had forgotten how many of these characters look alike and have similar-sounding names, and now I can't keep anybody straight. I need to find a very meticulous walkthrough of S1 to refresh my memory.

I'm more than a little bit embarrassed to admit I listened to about half of Fire & Blood on my bike rides over the past year - available with my Spotify subscription. I don't recommend that anyone do the same, but it does make things easier to follow even if the wow moments are spoiled for me.

I'll typically watch it again prior to the new season coming out to refresh everything, and when you can binge the episodes they move more cohesively and it makes more sense. At least to me.

I’m turning Team Green. Jace is such a whining weenie.
What’s the dragon count? Who do the greens even have outside of Vhagar?

Blacks have Vermithor, Silverwing, Syrax, Bermax, Moondancer, and Seasmoke plus Daemon/Carraxes depending on what he does… With Rhaena hot on the tail of *redacted* in the Vale.

well they broke the streak of the episode before the finale being the most action packed. that was fairly boring. hoping for a nice finish

I thought it was a good episode. The Harrenhal scene with the newly crowned Oscar as well as the opening scene with Rheanyrah and Adam of the Hull were particularly great watches.

I generally judge the episode by whether I fall asleep, start scrolling through my phone, or find myself checking how much time is left because I'm bored and none of that happened watching this episode.

Agreed it is a rare penultimate GoT episode where no action happened, but it was still good and moved the plot.

The Verimthor scene was awesome from beginning to end. They teased him at the end of Season 1 when Daemon was singing that song to him in the pit but then he kind of dropped out of the mix until this week.

Ways off I know but next season is going to be incredible. We already know most of these dragons aren’t going to survive. It’s going to be a legit battle royale.

are any of these the known mommy or daddy of Daenerys's dragons?

tully jr is now one of my favorite people in the entire show like coach always said if daemon had even one half the heart of tully jr he would have been all conference take that to the bank bromigos
He reminded us a bit of Lady Mormont in the way he handled the river lords. Excellent scene!
I thought the same!
Agreed, my favorite moment of the season so far, and I loved when Daemon finally understood and just reluctantly went with it.

Nice list.

Seeing all these dragons with different colors automatically makes me think some should be breathing something other than fire, D&D style

He had no choice, otherwise he was going to have to fight some of them and lose the Tully's.

I think we have different definitions of "action". The Vermithor and Silverwing stuff was action packed IMO

 From the googles:

Though, we know that Illyrio Mopatis gave Daenerys Targaryen dragon eggs as a wedding present to Khal Drogo and claimed they were from “Asshai.” However, the most popular theory is that Daenerys' three dragons came from the dragon, Dreamfyre, who once belonged to Rhaena and Helaena Targaryen.

Agreed, and I thought Matt Smith nailed the reaction of being outwitted/embarrassed by a kid yet still getting what he wanted. Was terrific IMO.

I have to keep reading stuff because it's so hard to remember, but in case anyone else doesn't know Vermithor and Silverwing were bound to Jaehaerys and his sister in a mostly peaceful rule. So they're the two oldest dragons other than Vhagar and their riders are now shot into star roles going forward. In the books Jaehaerys daughter spent time working in the pleasure house so it's possible Hugh is his grandson.

Princess Saera Targaryen was the 9th child of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne. Being a middle child who stood to inherit nothing, she got her attention from the men of the court and became a renowned party girl. After numerous failed attempts to reel their daughter in, they sent their daughter to a convent to become a nun. Rebelling, Saera fled the continent and started her own whorehouse in Essos. Alysanne was distraught saying "they've turned our girl into whore." To which Jaehaerys retorted with "She always was." The Princess was promptly disinherited by her father, and forbid his wife from trying to contact her.
