Wouldn't have been bad if it was the next to the last episode.

On another note; I stream it thru MAX and they always inflate their running times because they add those "behind the scenes" episodes to the run time total. I'm watching the two ladies talking and seeing there's still 20+ minutes left for something to happen.....but then as soon as they started hitting all the locations of all players...I knew it was over....with 14 minutes left to spare for "behind the scenes".

Glad I wasn't the only one disappointed with the finale. 2 seasons of set up so we can wait 2 years before we see a little action. This has a decided Hobbit feel to it where you take a perfectly good story, extend it beyond reason, add in a little extra BS here & there and pat yourself on the back thinking you just made cinematic gold. Meh might be too high praise for this one.

Would have been a lot cooler if they just swapped all the haunted mansion crap for Daemond campaigning in the Riverlands. The big "payoff" of Daemond seeing the Prince that was Promised prophesy just doesn't do anything for me given how much D&D butchered the end of GoT.

Somehow, they just lack the budget and/or time to do this stuff correctly.

I agree this season covered an unusually small amount of time/action from the story. There are a couple natural cliffhanger events coming up - probably in the next 10-20 book pages or so - that seemed like a good time to end a season in advance of a two year wait if there is such a thing - like Jace getting killed and Daemon rousting Vermithor at the end of season 1 to set us up for a war. I saw a rumor on twitter that season 2 was supposed to be 10 episodes but Discovery told the producers to cut it to 8. That doesn't really make any sense to me but would explain the bizarre pacing of the storytelling and the strange ending to the season. Also, the Alicent character and the relationship with R. strikes me as a ridiculous change to the text they made this season. They've both lost children and grandchildren and should rightfully be in all-out war mode with each other.

I think Martin at one time said he felt it would take 4 seasons of 10 episodes to tell the story correctly. We're probably getting 1 season of 10 and then 4 seasons of 8 episodes.

if this was the 8 of a 10 episode series no one would bat an eye but as the finale it was so strange i have not read the books because basically i just read fishing books but yeah that seems like a crazy change and i find it hard to believe that alicent wouldnt just get her head cut off the second she showed up at dragon rock not be confused with fraggle rock take that to the bank brochacho

All in all a weird season. Multiple high points, definitely the episode with the dragon fight and also some really great scenes. I enjoyed Deamon’s weirdo story bc that reminded me of old GOT mythology. But overall just way too many drab scenes and not enough compelling characters. They are really missing the variety of families and humor from season 1.

I feel like they are suffering from trying to take a 3 season show into 4 seasons.

Is this book actually worth reading? I'm not confused at all by all the naming. Seems like most of the changes being made from the text are pretty poorly received.

I haven't read it all and won't recommend it. I listen to certain chapters from time to time as the book is included in my family subscription on Spotify. It is interesting in that it is a historical account from 3 or so main fictional narrators who had different levels of access to the main players. Their accounts sometimes conflict so there's an 'unreliable narrator' element to it which is interesting. Martin's brain amazes me at times. He must have hundreds of pages of notes and charts to keep everything straight as his world involves thousands of years and characters. The writers for the show had to be very skilled in filling in dialouge and fleshing out the action for certain events while staying true to the story. When I'm confused about something, I'll read about that character or event on westeros.org. I've never cared about spoilers and don't mind knowing the story before it happens in the show.

As for the changes, they've made some very confusing decisions but also done a great job with most of it. I've no idea why they decided to make Alicent and R. adolescent besties, but even after season 1 that was still salvageable. Now they've gone down a path with those two that is dumb imo but we'll see in a couple of years I guess.

Yeah. I remember this and other things. I'll still watch the show because it is an interesting enough universe with good actors. But this story telling sucks. Not sure there is a reason to avoid more spoilers.
