Houston Texans forever - the Davis Mills Experience (11 Viewers)

Broncos All-Pro cornerback Pat Surtain II suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter of Sunday's 44-24 win over the Cowboys and did not return.

Surtain hurt his left shoulder in the first half, did not come out of the locker room at halftime and was officially ruled out with just over six minutes left in the third quarter in Empower Field at Mile High.

Replay video showed Surtain twisted his left arm/shoulder awkwardly on a tackle late in the first half. As Surtain walked to the locker room at the end of the first half, he was holding his left shoulder with his right hand.

Texans defense. #1 in scoring. #1 in yards per game. #1 in 1st downs. #3 in 3rd down percentage. T-5th in takeways.

#1 in passer rating. #17 in sacks.

Jets trade CB Carter to Eagles for WR Metchie

Eagles get: CB Michael Carter II, 2027 seventh-round pick
Jets get: WR John Metchie III, 2027 sixth-round pick

The Eagles acquired Metchie from the Texans in an August trade, but he only played 14 snaps for them.

Texans wideout Nico Collins is out of the concussion protocol and set to return against the Denver Broncos in Week 9, he said Thursday.

"Blessed to be off the protocol," Collins said. "Feeling good, feeling excited about this week's great matchup."

Texans wideout Christian Kirk, who missed the past two weeks -- and four games in total -- with a hamstring injury, also is expected to return. Kirk has 10 catches for 109 yards on the season.

So making fun of Dalton Schultz's blocking has kind of become second nature for me.

Well, heard a discussion of him, forget who it was, but essentially talking about how his teammates have recognized his improvement as a blocker this year.

So I said, ok I need to give the guy a fair shot. I just watched the 49ers game, and tried to find him each play and watch his blocking.

Yeah he's improved. He might not be the best blocking TE in the league. But overall he was effective. He did give up a pressure when he was isolated on the DE and he got bullrushed. It looked like he was just supposed to chip him and then release on a bootleg, but he got bowled back and CJ had to throw it away.

But other than that? Schultz was a net benefit on most of the running plays he blocked on. I'd give him a solid B to B+ on blocking for the game.

TE Harrison Bryant on the other hand I'd give a C. Watched him a lot too as I often couldn't tell if it was Schultz or Bryant until nearer the end of a play when their number was more visible. Bryant did very little to actually open up any holes in the running game. At best he didn't get pushed back too far.

I don't expect to win this weekend with that Denver pass rush, but would be really nice if we did. Remaining schedule is pretty nice. Bills, KC, 2 x Colts (and one is week 18 when they may end up resting starters at this rate) are the only ones I would expect us to not be favored. Maybe Chargers if they are healthier by the end of December. I can still see possibly 6~7 more wins on the schedule if the defense keeps playing like it has and the offense can take care of business against the weaker defenses.

Just like the Texans to crush your hopes one week and then bring them back from the brink the following game. The seesaw is stressful :topcat:

I sometimes still imagine a world where Caserio traded up to 13 and drafted Tyler Warren instead of trading back for a WR we rarely utilize :kicksrock:

I was holding my breath until the Colts were on the clock. I knew we were going to take him, but was frightened we wouldn’t.

Reminds me of how every time I watch the Ravens (like last night) I'm taken back to us not drafting Kyle Hamilton and instead trading down to take one of the worst guards to literally ever start a game. Granted they did find Bullock later on but Hamilton is an All Pro at SS.

Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed Monday morning that quarterback C.J. Stroud is in concussion protocol after taking a hit early in the second quarter of Sunday’s 18-15 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Stroud was removed from the game and never returned.

“I spoke to him last night,” Ryans said. “He’s feeling a little bit better. We’ll see how the week goes and how he progresses throughout the week.”

The Houston Texans already knew they’d be without C.J. Stroud and Ka’imi Fairbairn against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coach DeMeco Ryans ruled out the team’s starting quarterback with a concussion and kicker with a quad injury earlier this week.

But it was revealed on Friday that the Texans will be down a few more key pieces come Sunday's AFC South game.

Right tackle Tytus Howard, right guard Ed Ingram and nickel Jalen Pitre were all ruled out by the team’s official injury report before the home leg of Houston’s season series with the Jaguars

Gonna be an ugly game most likely

The Texans made several phone calls across the league to upgrade their roster earlier this week. One of the calls they made was to the New York Jets to inquire about running back Breece Hall, three sources with knowledge of those calls told the Houston Chronicle.

Hall, 24, is one of the top young running backs in the NFL, and would have helped solve a short-term issue at running back, and potentially a long-term one if Joe Mixon’s foot ailment lingers longer than a season.

It’s unclear how far conversations between Caserio and Jets general manager Darren Mougey reached, or whether the parameters of a deal were discussed. Mougey had a busy day Tuesday, executing deals with both the Dallas Cowboys and the Indianapolis Colts, trading away tackle Quinnen Williams and cornerback Sauce Gardner, two of his biggest defensive stars.

And the Texans weren’t the only ones interested in Hall, who reportedly wanted out of New York. The Chiefs also made an offer of a fourth-round pick for Hall, according to ESPN’s Nate Taylor.

But the Jets, who scored three first-round picks and a couple of backups in the deal for Williams and Gardner, wanted more, and were unwilling to compromise for anything less than a third-round pick, another person with knowledge of the talks confirmed.

...

Caserio’s call to the Jets wasn’t the only one he made, though. He made several calls to teams in search of a tight end, where the Texans have had significant injuries, and at guard, one of the sources said.

Throughout the season, Houston has had to rotate Laken Tomlinson and Juice Scruggs at left guard. And Ed Ingram is out this week with a knee injury.

Those were the three positions where Houston needed help the most.

But whatever those teams asked for their players, the Texans were not willing to pay those prices.

Glad to see them at least trying. Some obvious holes they tried to address, points us to where they'll be headed in the offseason. I kind of agree that a 3rd for Breece was too much given our team situation and the unlikelihood we make the playoffs. With that much interest though makes me think the Jets will tag Breece and try to work a trade with some team.

Texans Rookie left tackle Aireontae Ersery has allowed a 7.1% pressure rate this season.

That is the 8th lowest among LTs with 100+ pass blocking snaps & the 2nd lowest for a rookie LT since 2018.

Ersery has allowed less than a 10% pressure rate in every game since Week 4.

Saw this a few days ago, if correct that's some pretty good news. Although I do wonder if some of that is because opposing defenses may be targeting other players on the line like that rotating LG spot.

I am thinking for Jeremiyah Love we'd need to be in the early teens. I'd think the Ravens, Commanders, Vikings and probably a few dark horses out there may end up picking before us and would be interested. Could see Breece, KW3, Allgeier, Dowdle, JW all possible available in March too. The TE free agent class looks pretty good too: possible guys like Andrews, Likely, NJoku, Pitts. If we go FA or miss out on Love, IDK, feel like Caserio would trade down again. Hate the idea of taking a guard that early again, I'd rather use one of our 2nd's for that, there's one or two older guards out there as FA's as a possibility. The mocks I've seen the DT's aren't great at the top and it's a pretty deep group at both edge and center.

Feel like we'll see a lot of contract work in the offseason too. Obviously Will Anderson and Stroud will be the big ones to watch. I assume Tytus Howard gets extended since he's been playing well at RT and he's only 30 and has a high cap number. Do they extend Danielle Hunter again? Obviously still playing at a high level, but he'll be 33 in '27 and a FA and his cap number in '26 is the biggest on the team. It's a deep edge group, do they try to draft his eventual replacement so they have a guy on a rookie contract across from Will Anderson?

It's a pretty nice OT class supposedly, if they were willing to trade Tunsil away, would they trade Howard to save cap space and draft another OT (ideally high) this year?

@Jayded Where do you think we need our draft pick to fall to get Julian Love?
My hunch is he goes in the teens in the first round as a weapon. I think he’s possibly a top ten talent but teams will go QB/OL/DL in the top 10 and he’ll be that weapon someone covers in that area.
