Gastronomically speaking, how adventurous are you regarding eating? We're not talking about survival type stuff. We are talking about street vendor, restaurant menu type stuff.

Voting "1" means you stick to a very limited diet, never trying new things.

Voting "10" means you are willing to try anything(Andrew Zimmern type). Live insects, eyeballs...if it doesn't kill me, I will eat it!

I would consider myself a 9. I don't think I can bring myself to eat live insects, but I'm always willing to eat just about anything.

I wish I had lived in Japan before I became allergic to seafood. There's a lot of stuff I'd love to try.

8 - I'll try just about anything once within reason. My wife would be around a 2 - drives me insane.
You're in Atlanta, right? I ate at this authentic Thai place on Buford Dr last week and it was awesome. That entire stretch of road is my jam for cuisine.

Funny that the OP put himself at 9, but wouldn't eat live insects. I'm pretty conservative at a 6, but I think I could throw down a cricket if I had to.

Probably an as well. Will eat and enjoy more things within reason. I can handle a lot of spice.

9- pretty nothing off the table. Can't say 10 since I'm sure there's some odd mushroom delicacy that's poisonous to 1/1,000 people.

Yep - don't make it over that way too much though. Work downtown now so I have a lot of options. Need to find a good Thai place for lunch.

8 - I can't get into some offal like brains, hearts, kidneys (ok with others like liver and tripe) and bizarre seafoods.

I will edit the original post. This isn't about survival mode. This is about you are walking around and come across a street vendor or see something on a menu in a restaurant.

You ain't seen nothin' till you're down on a muffin then you're sure to be a-changin' your ways.

Yeah, I'd say I'm between 9-10, as long as there's assurance that the food is safe to eat and wouldn't cause silly pain, like the ridiculously spicy things out there.

I would love doing the Bizarre Foods gig. I don't think I've ever seen anything on there that I wouldn't at least try, and I find the thought pretty fascinating.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen all that many episodes of Bizarre Foods, mainly because my wife gets disgusted by it.

What are the worst foods you've seen him eat or the ones you would balk at eating yourself?

I don't like hot food. Otherwise I'll eat anything that tastes good. I don't see the difference between cow muscle or chicken muscle and rattlesnake balls or whatever.

I voted 10 thinking you meant Chinese, Mexican, Italian, vegetarian, etc.

If we are talking about eating bugs, chicken fetuses, slimy ####, etc then I need to back up a few spots. Give me a 7.

Seems like an appropriate thread for this:

How many of you don't mind tossing your girl's salad every once in a while?

I've done it a few times when very drunk/high but not something that is part of the regular rotation.

I dont think i could eat that fermented duck/chicken egg thing that the Chinese eat but still selected 10. As long as it didnt kill me I'm fine. Neighbor goes to china often and says bugs are quite taste. The only bug he didnt like was a deep fried silk worm cocoon. Said it kind of popped when he bit into it and then it oozed into his mouth. Yuck.

10. I've been to India, Russia, China, etc I used to have a long list of all the disgusting things I've tried. China was the most adventurous - "if it moves, it's food". They serve stuff that wouldn't be legal here. I've had fried wasp and wasp larvae (not bad actually), horses hoof, pigs lung on a stick. The trick is to try it first and then ask what it is.

I have no interest in eating bugs. I have no interest in eating some gawd-awful smelly durian, although it is pretty good in a smoothie. Fermented Shrimp paste gives me the ####s in less than 5 minutes. I will eat the vast majority of things, but not crap that makes me gag or sick. I guess about a 7 then.

yeesh, i'm probably a 2.

....oh a new restaurant opened up with 185 items on the menu??

"I'll have the cheeseburger please"

You couldn't pay me enough to try anything live. And I draw the line at stuff like eyeballs and intestines though I do love liver, kidney, tongue, lamb brains... hmmmm...

I'm from Louisiana, we'll eat almost anything. Probably only thing I won't try is insects, but if you think about it crawfish aren't a far cry from that. I'd like to try hagus one day. But hogshead cheese, nutria, sea urchin, gator, oysters right out the water, pigs feet, blood boudin, I like to think I've tried all I've been offered. So a 9.

If there is actually something there to eat, I am out.

10. I have already eaten things in this category. However, I don't think I can do what Anthony Bourdain did... eat feces because he wanted to be a polite guest.

I have eaten several kinds of bugs. They actually tasted good. Nice and crunchy.

I would eat a cooked bug. Just no interest in doing it. If I want crunch, I will eat nuts.

I have eaten worms but cooked with scrambled eggs. They were pretty soft if you don't like crunchy.

Eyeballs tasted a little metallic and chalky. Not an favorite.
In Iran they have this stew many eat cold for breakfast. You toss in all the undesirable organs (usually it's lamb) in a pot like intestines, eyeballs, brain, etc. I tried it's juice once when I lived there and bleh! No amount of seasoning could make it pallatable. But it's an extremely healthy stew so if you can get past the taste, this stew is gold!

It is true with most food. Intestines, like kidney, tasted fine if they were cleaned very well and cooked with the right kind of spices. All this stuff, I just tried to see what they taste like. I do not eat them normally or know how to cook them myself.

I'll try a lot of stuff. Recently had bun bo hue with the chunk of coagulated blood. Have eaten chapulines but would probably avoid live insects and most dong-centric dishes.

I tried coagulated duck and pig's blood before. One tasted more metallic but the other was okay. I forgot which was which.

Snake meat tastes like chicken. I did not try the venom vodka though. :chicken:

Ew! Reptiles, insects and amphibians are a definite hell no! :X Unless I'm tricked into trying it like I was when I was told lamb brains was fish...

The pig blood I had was pretty metallic and had a strong fishiness. Was not my taste.

You're an 11 with this doozy... As far as I could tell, all they do in Iran is toss the organs in a pot of water, add salt and pepper to taste. I'm sure it could be spruced up with proper seasonings but that's how they traditionally do it there.
