I'm not picky but my food just has to meet one of two requirements at minimum.

1. Healthy

2. Tastes Good

If it's unhealthy and doesn't taste good, I won't eat it. What's the point?

That's actually quite interesting. I usually side on one or the other, no need for both.

I had to go with an 8. I'm willing to try almost anything.. BUT... I friggin hate olives. Nasty ### disgusting bitter pills from Satan. Probably should have voted 7 based on my absolute hate for olives, but I'm willing to try just about anything else.
I love olives, but I feel this way about mushrooms.

What has surprised me most is hearing some of you saying this would have a big impact on your marriage.

My wife not willing to eat orangutan balls doesn't bother me at all but sounds like it could be a deal breaker for some of you?

Can anyone that mentioned their spouse shed some light?
She don't eat meat but she sure likes the bone.

Voted 8. Will try almost anything at least once. A lot of people here nervous about insects, but most I've had are actually quite good

The people that really complained are the ones who said their wives are about a 2/10. That means they have the palate of a toddler, basically.

#### that ####.
it's the worst.

signed, husband of 2/10.

ya, after reading through some of these Ii am adjusting myself to the 5/6 range. You know, like that chick that thinks she is the hottest gal in the bar but we all know differently.

I mentioned it. Not wanting to try orangutan balls probably puts someone at a 7, IMO. I was thinking more along the lines of someone being so strictly meat-and-potatoes that something like kimchi or a beef tongue taco would freak them out.

ETA that trying new foods is something I really enjoy, so a spouse/SO who hated doing so would not make for a good relationship.

Being willing to eat a lengua taco or have a little kimchi mixed into something else is what gets you to a 5, in my book.

Now? 2

Teen/20s? 6
What in the world?

It is supposed to go in the other direction over time...
Like someone has invented new foods or something?
taste buds die with age.

little kids have a harder time with spicier food because their taste buds are all still there. in your youth, rulers used children as tasters to test for poison, because they had more refined/delicate taste for this stuff. as we age, we need more spice/seasoning to taste the flavor in the food- because we can't taste things as well.

Yeah, I don't know where I end up. I'll eat any offal. Brains, kidney, tripe, whatever. I've eaten grasshopper tacos. Quite delicious. I tried stinky tofu in Taiwain (which smelled awful but tasted great).

But I don't handle spicy stuff all that well, so I'm not going to eat stuff the average Thai family would eat any day of the week. And I don't really like bitter veggies like broccolini or green peppers.

6?

Voted 8. I’ll try just about anything once if it’s cooked, except eye balls and gall bladder type stuff. Or super hot foods, my body doesn’t react well to anything more than a habanero on the Scoville scale.

I have no problem eating street food in Malaysia or Colombia.

I can eat menudo from an authentic Mexican restaurant, rocky mountain oysters, chickens feet, fois gras(meh), but I can't do brains.

I can humble brag my way to a 9 in this thread.

Bring on the food!

I'll try just about anything once. If someone somewhere thinks it's tasty, odds are I will too.

Food is one of life's greatest pleasures. I'll never understand people who stay in their comfort zones all the time.

I'm definitely the least picky eater I know. I have some friends who are picky and eating with them is incredibly irritating. Asking servers what's in each dish, substituting this and that, JUST EAT WHAT THEY GIVE YOU.

Last time we went to Vietnam, Anthony Bourdain had died so we made a point to be as adventurous as possible. I ate frog legs, crickets, snake jerky, field mouse and sparrow - and I always would eat the soups with coagulated blood like Bun Bo Hue.

We also ate lung soup in Germany.

My in-laws are like this. I hate going out to eat with them.

The most famous dish in every country is at least good, but usually delicious. I stumbled upon this thought as a teen and feel like it's served me well. If billions eat it...

(That led to) I have tried everything and have had more stomach problems than anyone I ever met.

Retracted my openness to try and now I just stick with the original.

I no longer like how every culture seems to have a different way of making food spicy or hot.
Garlic is great. A lot of garlic makes my body do bad things.
Ya know what's pizza? Pizza. Ya know what's a taco? Tacos. People need to stop with their variations- these usually upset my stomach. As I've gotten older, after 40, it's as if my stomach has an expectation and voices it's opinion of change.

Yikes, just discovering this thread. I voted "3" and that's probably a stretch. I am, admittedly, a very picky eater. I mean, I avoid a lot of "normal" things like onions, mushrooms, olives, mayo, mustard, peppers... :x

I eat my burgers with cheese only. I will - from time to time - get a thinly-sliced tomato on there. Tacos? No lettuce, please. But... I will eat a salad.

Prior to meeting my now-wife, I don't think I had much sushi experience. I like it now, but stay in my lane with a few types of sashimi and Philly rolls only. She also got me into crawfish (she's Cajun).

Not really into Chinese food at all, and pretty much stick to Orange Chicken (if anything).

Exotic foods? No thanks.

Earlier this year, I was in Morocco, I tried camel and pigeon tagine
I am on my way to Africa for a month , Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania so will be on the look out for local dishes to try
I will try almost anything once.
I draw the line at endangered animals.
Where i might have a tough time trying would be eyeballs, brains and heart but i have done fisheyes and chicken hearts in local dishes

How was Africa? Anything interesting, cuisine wise?

Morrocco was some different foods available
At the lodges and hotels, I was at Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania , I didn't see anything unusual to try.

I am in the 9-10 range. I will try anything twice as I’ve had stuff I don’t like that was just poor preparation.

I’m also the type that can stomach food that I don’t like at a gathering out of respect for the person that made the dish.
