How are your AirPods holding up? (1 Viewer)

Reading that many people find they need to replace their AirPods/AirPod Pros after 2 years. Wanting to see if many people here have had the same experience

My son has one airpod that has a noticeably lower volume compared to the other.  Of course he also dropped one of them into a raging runoff of rain water this summer while we were running to the car and throwing his gear in during a massive thunderstorm that popped up during his baseball tournament, so not sure it's really because of age.

Got a free pair of Airpods when we bought his Macbook  before school started, so he's getting new ones for Christmas.

Two pairs of original airpods:  Battery life is tanking in the left.  On one set, the left is noticeably less.

Airpod Pro has been rock solid so far.

My microphone stopped working about 8 months in. I'm pretty sure it's because I dropped one repeatedly over a random few days. I dealt with not having it for about a month because I was being lazy about getting to an Apple store to see if they could be fixed. Eventually went online to set up an appt in a store and within about 90 seconds a CSR was mailing me a new set.

My AirPod Pros are finally starting to fade after almost 3 good years of use.

What's the best option going forward? AirPods Pro 2nd generation?

I'm trying to hold on until 3rd gen comes out. My Right one is not great, battery life isn't as good as the Left, but still get a couple of hours out of it. Hoping it lasts until it's announced.

Yep. Had to replace mine because they wouldn't hold a charge any longer.

Is this coming soon?

I see Target has them 2nd Gen Pro for $190 instead of $250.

Not soon, rumor is late 24. I am hoping for the Sept release.

As someone who still has $20 wired earbuds, these comments reinforce that I am in no hurry to make the transition to a $200 product that only lasts 2 years.

I don't like squishy tips and prefer the OG style airpods / earpods. At around $150, sometimes less on sale, I don't mind replacing every 2-3 years for what I get out of them. One of my favorite pieces of tech with the charging case.

I was pretty bummed when I found out my new Samsung Galaxy A54 ($99) didn't have a place for wired ear buds. I'm now forced into the JVC wireless earbuds my kid got me for Xmas. Can't imagine he spent too much on 'em but a year in and they work fine.

They work. I also prefer the wires.

I actually use them to connect my Apple II to the internet.

I went through 2-3 pairs of OG airpods because the battery kept going out, but like you I do prefer them because they stay in my ears better than the Pros do. I've had a set of Pros for years and while the battery is still great, one of them fell out of my ear while running and now the clicking function is broken. Another one fell out while I was biking and was a total loss and had to be replaced. When my current Pros die out through attrition I'll look into going back to the old style.

I bought the 2nd generation AirPod Pros this week to replace my original pair. My right AirPod was starting to get all staticky and throwing out feedback so I took some of my fantasy football earnings from this year (Thanks @Joe Bryant and Footballguys!) and bought the new ones.

This morning, as usual, my alarm goes off at 6:30a. I wake up, put on my iWatch, grab my phone and iPod case and head to the bathroom to take care of business and then put in my contacts before heading out on my daily 4-mile walk. I go downstairs to feed the cat, because he's meowing incessantly, and put my AirPod case and iPhone on the counter. After giving the cat some food, I grab my AirPod case, but don't get a secure grip and they fall onto the tiled kitchen floor. For some reason, AirPod cases are engineered so the minute they hit a hard surface, the top opens up and the AirPods shoot out out in alternating directions. It's crazy how that happens, right?

Anyway, I go to pick up one of the AirPods and put it back in the case. It's actually the only one I actually saw fly out. For the life of me though, I can't find the second AirPod. I have NO idea where it went. I spend 10 minutes on my hands and knees crawling around the kitchen floor looking for it. There's not too many places it could have gone.

Eventually, I open up the FindMy app on the phone so I could play a sound on the missing AirPod. It has to be around. It shows that it was "active" 6 minutes ago. But that's weird. Six minutes ago I was upstairs in my bathroom. So I go up to my bathroom and it's not anywhere to be found. I check my bedroom. Nope, not there either. And it's not showing up as active anymore on the app. WTF?

I spend the next 20 minutes wandering all over the house looking for the damn thing before giving up and going on my walk, listening to Armchair Expert through only one side of my head.

I spend the rest of the day walking around my house trying to find that lost left AirPod and NOTHING. It shows on my FindMy app that the last time it was active, around 6:30am, it was in my house. It's right here. Somewhere. But it's not showing up as active anymore. How can that be? It was in the case, it was charged, but now it's just not showing up as active? Now it shows "Last seen 11 hours ago".

I like them. They do tend to fall out for me though so I’m careful with them
But they’re great for taking lunch meetings out and about instead of at my desk
I also pop them in for grocery shopping

Yeah no matter what I try just can't get any to stay in my ear. I gave up and got beats with the ear hook

Same for me, literally down to it being my right earbud. Just this last month. First set lasted about 2yrs

I can't imagine paying even $100+ for any pair of headphones / ear buds. Very happy with the two pairs of Anker Soundcores I paid $65 total for.

I cannot ever imagine buying this product. Wired cans for life

I’ve had near-reference series Grados and am currently rocking a Sennheiser HD650 set of cans. I can tell you that AirPods are not bad. Like, nothing at all bad from you’d expect for wireless headphone buds.

They’re currently sitting in a box because I don’t really have that much use for them due to the Sennheisers, but they’re really not bad. And they’re portable, which is a plus. The Senns and Grados aren’t so portable.

Wait a minute, your original product failed so badly you bought a pair from the same manufacturer? Interesting.

They stood up to multiple cycles in the washing machine, a few in the dryer, 50-60 drops on a tile floor and lasted five years despite all of that. So yes.

I wouldn't consider that a fail, but I suppose it's subjective.

I think "subjectivity" was driven by my inability to unpack what you originally wrote (i.e., no mention of putting them in with the wash and dropping them repeatedly like they were made of butter).
Enjoy your pods.

One of the best things I own. Run, hike and do other workouts with them. Teams calls in a busy office or coffeehouse. Never had any issues - got a new pair for Christmas and gave my son my old pair. Wired sucks.

They really are good for portability. I could see them being excellent for working out.

Love my 2nd gen Pro set. I bought a case that keeps the lid locked down so I don’t worry about them when I travel with them clipped to my backpack

Other than my phone, my AirPod Pros are the piece of tech I can't live without. To the point where if they broke or I lost them, I'd immediately go out and pay full price for another pair. Whether it's cooking at home, solo lunches at work, the gym, or just doing chores around the house - listening to podcasts/Youtube/music makes my life so much better. When my family travels, 80% of the time all 4 of us are sleeping in the same room, so falling asleep with them is essential.

The wired Apple headphones never fit my ears well. The multiple sized buds you get when you buy the Pros coupled with their short stem design means they should fit virtually everyone.

Did you use "Find My" to track the missing AirPod like a beacon? Here's a short video that should help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h25naneFTM&t=1s

ironic that this popped up today. 30 degrees here in Texas today. never had an issue w/ my pods. Took the dogs for a 1 1/2 hour walk this morning like we do every day. Pods totally charged. 2/3 of the way in, right one dies, 10 minutes later left one dies. Get home, put them in the charger, check their status and both are +65% charged. These are 3-4 year old hand me downs from my son. Might be time to invest in a new pair I'm guessing.

The thought did cross my mind. I did hold up the phone to her belly to see if I could get a signal from it. LOL.

Yes. It couldn't get a signal even though 5 minutes prior to my realizing I couldn't find it, "Find My" had it located in my house.

Yes, you are right. I will remember next time to provide more clarity, so subjectivity will no longer come into play.

I'm still using these. The battery life of both the pods and case continues to decline. but the quality is still there. They now 4.5 years old.

Have one pair of originals and one pair of Pro's, still rocking & rolling. Have had the OG's for years, Pro's for probably 3 years?

I used to wear one in my ear almost 24/7 then discovered Shokz Open Comm's and have been using them at work for the last 3 years. Rock solid and you can still hear what's going on around you.
