How 'bout them Reds! (4 Viewers)

Love watching this team right now.

Hamilton: 4 pinch runner appearances. 4 stolen bases and 3 runs.

Saw it was back spasms acting up again. Not anything serious. Guessing Cueto should be back by the end of next along with Sean Marshall. Cueto threw another simulated game yesterday and felt great after 63 pitches.

Cueto is starting tonight. Sucks that it's on the one day that basically nobody in Cincinnati will be watching the game, but I'm just happy he's able to pitch. If they're going to make a run at the division, it has to start tonight with a shot in the arm from Cueto.

I never even posted in this thread before, not once, hating on the Reds. Ironic the first time I look in, I see a Shuke left hook to the to my gumline. :boxing:

The rest of this series, and the next, is so huge. I wants no business with Chapman.

Hamilton HAS TO be on the post season roster, right?
Yes. It's not even close. Not far off from changing the question to whether he'll start against righties in playoffs.
I'd like to know when the Reds signed Tyrone Biggums, and when his last drug test was?? Clearly to me, he's still on the crack, because there is no other way he could run that fast.

It was in response to the typical Pittsburgh class shown in the other thread after the b2b homers. :coffee:

If the division becomes out of reach, Reds have to push for that home wild card game. Liriano's home/away splits are ridiculous.

Since August 1st, the Bucs are 1 game under .500 at home and 2 games under on the road. You're correct that Liriano's numbers away from PNC are pretty bad. He's had some really bad clunkers on the road and just about every one of his home starts has been solid. In Cincy, he's had one bad start and one decent start. At home against Cincy, he's had 2 dominant starts.

Burnett has also been much more dominant at home compared to the road. At home against Cincy, he's had 1 solid start and 1 mediocre. He only pitched one game in Cincy and it was bad.

So what about the young phenom Cole? He's actually been better on the road but thats based off of 39 innings. He has yet to face Cincy.

The last potential option would be Morton. Morton also has a better split at home but the gap is not as wide compared to Liriano and Burnett. Morton has only pitched once against Cincy (on the road) and that was a nice start (although it was back in June).

I think it's clear that the Pirates really need that homefield to have a good shot in the wildcard game. I would be thrilled to put LIriano or Burnett up against anyone in PNC. I guess if the game is in Cincy, they either have a very short leash on Liriano (if he's off, you'll know it right away) or just start Mr. Cole.

Who would be pitching for Cincy?

Everyone would be guessing if they tried to answer that because nobody on the team will talk about anything other than how to finish 5-0 and catch the Cards.... hence the no celebration last night.

Throwing out random guesses, I would assume it's down to Latos or Cueto. It's risky to pick Cueto I guess because he's coming off injury, but if you trust anyone more than him on the mound you're crazy IMO. I would do it and just have Latos or Leake on standby in case of any injury flare ups. I think most Reds fans would lean Latos, but there is talk of him being held back for the Pirates series (Friday) which could make him unavailable. It seems weird to push Latos back from Weds, but they're adament about trying to win the division and frankly I think they believe they don't need him to sweep the Mets.

Pure speculation on my part, but they could pencil in Cueto for Sunday right now and then just bump him to Tuesday if the Cards clinch by then. This means passing Bronson on the rotation though which might be a stretch. So ya, total crapshoot.

Ridiculous. Win a ####ing game against a sub-.500 team. Jesus.
:goodposting:

Losing series to the Cubs, Brewers, and Mets in the last 2 weeks of the season. Two of those AT HOME. Probably need to sweep the Bucs to get the top WC spot.

Nope because it looks like the Bucs are going to lose today. If that happens, the winner of the Reds/Bucs series gets top WC spot. Damn I have no faith in Liriano if that game is in Cincy.

We need 2 out of 3.

Read earlier that Dusty made some ridiculous comment about not having a sense of urgency until you're facing the final game or something. Not sure if that is his philosophy or the players'. I can say, though, that I'm getting tired of watching BP dog it down to first base.

How can you even tell anymore with BP? It's either been 3 years since we've seen him "run" due to dogging it or he has aged very quickly and can't run anymore.

Regardless, it's all about Tuesday. I would like to have it at home so I can attend, but big picture that's the game that matters and I'm fine with managing this weekend accordingly.

So Bailey, Arroyo, Cueto scheduled to go this weekend. Leake would be due up for the WC, but Latos would be fully rested as well.

Win the first 2, do you skip Cueto and have all 3 available?

I would think so. Likewise, in that scenario I would hope the Pirates sit Cole. The Reds haven't faced him yet and I would prefer him over Liriano if the playoff game is in Cincy. However, I know Hurdle would never start him so at least he could come in if Liriano falls apart.

I think starting Cole would be a mistake. He might be better than Liriano in general, but the Reds 3 best hitters are all lefties. It should be the ideal matchup for Liriano.

On the Reds part, I don't think there is any chance Leake is a player. It's really only a question whether you would skip Cueto on Sunday or go ahead with Latos on Tuesday either way.

I'm not sure who the color guy is for this FOX telecast (I know his voice but the name is escaping me) but he decided to bring up steroids while Brandon Phillips tried to overcome the enormous lump he got in his shin from a foul ball. He made sure to mention, after the fact, that in no way are they saying BP did it, but that was poor. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN BROKEN LEG SYNDROME BEFORE STEROIDS OH BTW NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS GUY!!!

Or lose the first 2, same thing I guess.

The good thing is whoever wins Tuesday night should be set up very nicely for the divisional round. I think they will be able to start their 1-3 starters for the first 3 games

Oh well, I guess home field doesn't mean #### anyway, seeing how Reds took 2 of 3 on the road last series and Pirates will at least match that here.

Everybody going to wear overalls in the stands today in honor of all the farmhands that'll be on the field?
Regular lineup in, except BP resting.

I like it. Twitter blowing up about it. What do the rest of these guys need to rest from? They haven't been hitting and have tomorrow off anyway.

Also a lot of whining about Cueto decision for Tuesday. I love it.

I like the Cueto decision to start. I just hope they don't come out flat like they have looked since the Mets series.

Yeah, I'm fine with Cueto - he's pitched really well since coming back.

Hey the good news about playing in Pittsburgh is they can't give up any runs in the top of the first, right?

Im sure some people might think this is crazy but I would love Dusty to have set the lineup up like this.

Choo CF

Votto 1B

Phillips 2B

Bruce RF

Frazier 3B

Heisey LF

Cozart SS

Mesaraco C

Pitcher

Votto is a singles hitter and an OBP machine, With Choo and Votto hitting 1-2 with their OBP that is going to give us more RBI opportunities (1st and 2nd in the majors in OBP), Phillips and Bruce have both proved they can drive in runs this year (each over 100 RBI's). I know Dusty likes to break the Left Handed hitters up, but Choo and Votto would be the same as Votto and Bruce like he has it now. I don't like Ludwick, I wish Dusty would bench him for either Heisey or Pail depending on the pitcher. And I wish Dusty would stick with one catcher over the other, let them get in a rhythm instead of constantly switching them in and out. I think the better offensive catcher right now is Mesaraco (offense is struggling). I'm sure it won't happen in the playoff wild card game, but would love to see it.

I don't think you're crazy for thinking that lineup might be better. I do think you're crazy if you think Dusty might do it.

I don't see why we shouldn't expect ...

Choo

Ludwick

Votto

Phillips

Bruce

Frazier

Cozart

Hanigan

Cueto

Dusty will spout some line about players knowing their roles and run out a lineup featuring Neifi Perez, Miguel Cairo and Marvin Benard.
